To find this film disturbing

"Leave the world behind" I find it more like a prediction,/warning on what's to come. Netflix tend to do this. Total shutdown of the internet, pho nes etc and the anarchy that would follow. Could this be a warning of the future? Very disturbing film.

It’s a really stupid film. The concept is interesting but the impact of not being able to communicate is much less of an issue in the city than this isolated house where we are made to believe somehow white privilege is why the rich owners of the house are made to sleep in the basement
total waste of time

That's not what I got it from it at all. It was very annoying that Julia Roberts immediately was unbelieving that they owned the house. I've had a similar experience and I thought the movie highlighted that really well actually.

WHO ARE THEY?!?! Something conspiracy theorists can never answer.
I've met politicians that are utterly thick, top scientists who are incredibly bright when it comes to their chosen field but have zero common sense and I've met bankers who have no emotional intelligence whatsoever.
The idea that there are a group of people out there that are capable of pulling the wool over everyone's eyes and all the establishment is in on it is hilarious when you think about who the establishment consists of.

With regards to the "who are THEY?" question, I personally think it is a case of the worlds richest most powerful people who naturally network with each other in order to protect / promote their interests. I don't think it's some shadowy esoteric cult hell bent on world domination by Satanic ritual... there are things like Freemasonry and Skull and Bones and Bohemian Grove but I tend to think of that sort of thing as any excuse for debauchery and the wealth involved means better party favours and an opportunity to dress up, and indulge in often seedy behaviour. Like Butlins on steroids. Creating mystique is part of the fun.

The book sounded better ..., wished I'd read that instead. Had a better ending too.

I kinda get what u mean OP. Yea it's a fictional story / film but the scary thing is this could potentially happen in the not so distant future. I found it quite unsettling.

We watched it the other night and I really enjoyed it. It takes alot for me to put down my phone and actually watch something these days! It was produced by Barak and Michelle Obama. As I do with films I enjoy I immeadiatly trotted off to Google to find out more about it. Obama provided alot of insight into the storyline and writing. If anyone has got inside knowledge about potential attacks on the West not just USA its going to be the ex president of the states. I believe something like that has probably been at the very least discussed by 'unfriendly' countries. Ppl have their heads in the sand if they think there's not constant serious threats being attempted every second of every day. There's many many people behind the scenes preventing these attacks from happening. I'm not building my bunker just yet tho

Station 11 was the best book I have ever read - couldn't bring myself to watch the show though because I don't want to have to shout at the telly.

People know what may happen if the scenario in the film happened. But that does not mean they know this will actually happen.
It is in the future, no one knows what is going to happen.

I love the Obama's but this movie went completely over my head. It was so boring and if the end of the world is all about the last episode of Friends, we're well fucked. I just didn't get it!

The Girl With All The Gifts and The Last Of Us probably got it right - nature, especially fungus, will get the end of us - I do my bit by eating lots of mushrooms to keep the population down.

One of the things that keeps fungus at bay is its intolerance of heat. But apparently, with climate change, fungus species are slowly starting to adjust to higher temps… so you might be right there! 🫣

I went to the dentist the day after I watched it and couldn’t get the image of the son pulling his teeth out of my head while the hygienist was scraping away. Excruciating.

@startquitting Well, that was a super annoying watch. I get that it was made 10 years ago, so pre-pandemic and loads of other stuff that's happened in that time, but that was a PSA of what not to do and I think hope that we have learnt a bit more since then.
