According to recent threads:

Everyone over the age of about 35 looks way younger, constantly mistaken for younger, doesn't have a line on their face yet despite never using suncream, and their nan only used bin juice on their face and smoked 80 fags a day but had beautiful skin at 103 years old.

Everyone had sex with their complete stranger dp within about 4 seconds of meeting them for the first time, their dp moved in that night and never left and they're coming up to 762 years of happy marriage now.

Everybody on here seems to earn 200k in some mysterious job that doesn't seem to exist, they can't quite explain what they do, but they worked their asses off to get to this level of seniority which involves them working 3 hours a week for 2 weeks a year.

Interested to hear any more.

Well blow me down, I didn’t know Brums use ‘mom’.
Thanks and apology sent. x

In keeping with this thread, every day is a school day on MN 😂😂

NCTCPD · 11/12/2023 12:49

You’ve taken the words from my mouth @SheIsStuck23! 😂
Btw, I’m in that cold, cold north west and am a nanna!

stoppingby · 11/12/2023 12:55

If your neighbour does something mildly irritating, you shouldn't first try to talk to them calmly but instead you should retaliate with force and escalate the situation to the point of having to sell up.

Also there is always that ONE poster who wants to be the first on a thread to get the boot in, e.g...

Op: I'm a SAHM, money is tight and I'm really worried about paying the bills.

Boot-kicker: You need to get off your ass and get a job.

🙄

Ardith · 11/12/2023 12:57

Everyone’s DH does 50% of the childcare and housework, while also staying good-humoured at all times and giving lots of great sex, cuddles, and giggles, and if your DH is not like this you should LTB asap so that you can marry a man like this instead. Ignore the fact you’d be a perimenopausal single mum in her late forties going through a messy divorce, great men ready for instant commitment will definitely be just around the corner.

Oh and “40 is young to start a family, I had twins at 45 naturally and it was fabulous.”

GoonDog · 11/12/2023 12:58

I've learnt that:

  1. MILs have a weird obsession with sneaking in to OPs bedroom
  2. MILs demanding overnights as soon as the baby crowns
  3. MILs only, seem to have meltdowns when being told no. I'm imaging toddle style, throwing self on floor, style tantrums
  4. That all harmonious PIL relationships change the minute OP has a baby. Lots of boundary inforcement, and LC/NC over minute things
mrsjg · 11/12/2023 12:59

Place marking 😁

ChateauDuMont · 11/12/2023 13:03

Another thing that amazes me is the willingness of some to come on here with a view or opinion of something mundane and other posters have a different view and the original poster has an about turn and now completely agrees with them

An example that sticks in my mind is one woman posting about an advert that her sister had told her about and how blown away she was by it.

. I can't remember what the advert was for, it was basically people standing up in their seats in a huge crowd if they have done certain things in life until only one person was standing, something along those lines.

Along came another poster who said what a load of crap the advert was and the original poster like a wet wipe then said oh well I won't like it now or similar.

She obviously enjoyed the advert but it took just one other person to say it was crap and she changed her mind.

I see a lot of this on here.

The advert actually was crap but that's not the point! Posters take some kind of comfort from wanting to agree with other posters!

Bizarre:

You forgot "furious"

And the only acceptable course of action, when feeling this level of anger, is to go 'nuclear'

Janinejones · 11/12/2023 13:05

Seriously, we women do too much overthinking. Just been reading another thread on something quite mundane that is going on for pages and pages.🙄

And any approach to school to query something is done "storming in, all guns blazing" rather than contacting teacher or HT for a chat.

alwaysmovingforwards · 11/12/2023 13:12

I've learned that lots of people don't take accountability for their life choices, and use MN as an echo chamber in a bid to feel better about the inevitable poor outcomes. They're easy to spot as they normally kick off with "I'm feeling fragile so please don't judge me".

ManateeFair · 11/12/2023 13:22

In all seriousness, one thing I have learned from Mumsnet is how many people really are just crashing great snobs of the worst possible kind.

Puddleduck5 · 11/12/2023 00:37

Everyone who leaves their home is a menace to cyclists (pedestrians, motorists, people walking their dogs etc.) Cyclists, on the other hand, never do anything wrong at all.....not ever!

That is exactly right Grin

Placemarking as I need to work now but I want to come back and read the rest of the thread later!

Oh @Spencer0220 youre in for a TREAT.

You are welcome.

Bonziatree you're a star for sharing the link...👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼 H (sorry MN traditions suggest that must be 'D'H) and I are in absolute stitches. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

SantaExpress · 11/12/2023 13:55

Driving an SUV or 4X4 is akin to being a murderer!! Despite living in a fairly rural part of the UK that is usually wet, muddy, windy, hilly, rough ground etc ( and an owner of 2 large hairy dogs) my driving of a SUV is a hanging offence!!
Been driving for over 40 years, clean licence, always taxed insured etc…. But I’m a Mumsnet heathen!!

NCTCPD · 11/12/2023 14:15

That MN isn’t SM. ???
That it has a hive mind.
That it is a nest of vipers.
That it offers the wonderful opportunity to frequently name change (as I do). How many are like me and how many employ a long-lasting user name? Is the site smaller than it appears? Only a counsellor would know for they have all the answers. 😉

Crikeyalmighty · 11/12/2023 14:19

@Ardith I'm suprised too at the number of partners who do 50% - quick whip round my friends partners though shows a definite split that the under 45s seem to do far more than the over 45s -

Most of my over 50s friends have Hs who do as little domestically as they can get away with -

NoNoNanette · 11/12/2023 14:28

@LakeTiticaca

You must not under any circumstances read the Daily Mail.

I knew (in fact, decided) that long before I had heard of Mumsnet!

OddityOddityOdd · 10/12/2023 23:24

There is a deep fear of spider poo lurking inside most people.

Does spider poo lurk inside most people? I think the knowledge would make me a bit nervous, to say the least.

NCTCPD · 11/12/2023 14:31

That as a result of MN I Google a considerable amount of “research”. It’s a wonder the internet police aren’t after me, such are the topics.
🤦‍♀️

NoNoNanette · 11/12/2023 14:33

Everybody has an iPad and iPhone. Only losers have any Android gear or Windows PCs.

  1. Ring NHS direct if you're ill
  2. Yes he's probably a twat so dump him
  3. You have a right to feel good about your choices in life and don't let other people put you down
  4. Work sucks but there is support through Unions and ACAS
  5. A man is still a man even if he pretends he's a woman and that doesn't mean you have to pretend he's a woman too.
  6. When someone hits you, deal with it properly via the police.
  7. Probably keep social media to a minimum especially if it even slightly affects your health.

But this is all good sensible stuff. Give your head a wobble!

SomeoneYouLoved · 11/12/2023 14:38

Hindsight is a wonderful thing !

GreatOak · 11/12/2023 10:23

That you cannot be a bit cross, you must be "raging". Equally, you cannot be a bit upset,
you must be "crying and shaking". You must always use overwrought, dramatic language to describe even the most mundane situation, or your audience just won't understand how greatly you've been wronged. 😔

Equally you can never just be tired, you must always be 'on your knees'.

Mojolostforever · 11/12/2023 14:39

All Mumsnetters have children who are likely to randomly poo themselves, bleed through their clothes, wet themselves and / or throw up if the teacher makes them wait until break time for the loo.
