I've narrowed it down to The Only living Boy in New York by Simon and Garfunkel ( I'm obsessed with the weather forecast, only news I need)
And Raise Hell by Brandi Carlisle. Also something by Magnetic fields....Andrew in Drag probably not appropriate though...

Stardust by Nat King Cole as the curtains close and people leave the crem. Beautiful song and beautiful singer

I want "you'll never walk alone". Only because my family are huge huge huge Everton fans and it would really annoy them.

I love my family but I love then idea of them all having to sit there listening to it.

This made me laugh as I have always threatened the same!

Let love speak up itself - the beautiful south
Mercy - Prefab sprout

MistressoftheDarkSide · 09/12/2023 22:48

Sweet Child of Mine - GNR
Life is a Cabaret - Liza Minelli (,Because when I go I'm going like Elsie)
Paint It Black - Rolling Stones.

My DP died unexpectedly in January 2022.

He had, being a somewhat theatrical Goth also into music and playing in various cover bands, left a list of songs totalling 53 minutes for an hour long service. I edited it down to allow for eulogies and we had:

Part of the theme to Wings of Desire spliced with Monsters by Switchblade Symphony as his coffin came in.

Tuesday's Dead by Cat Stevens (bizarre because he actually died on a Tuesday.

Goodbye Barcelona by Pokey LaFarge.

Two of his friends sang Tremorchrist by Pearl Jam.

And he went out to the extended version of Freebird all 15 minutes of it because in his words, written on the list "Fuck the Man" ......

Yeah that was a trip.....

HelpIcantfindaname · 09/12/2023 23:17

Dancing in the Sky - Dani & Lizzie

Thank you for Lovin Me - Bon Jovi

Green Green Grass - George Ezra

I put those in my funeral plan last year, but now I also love When I Get There - Pink. There won't be room for 4 songs though.

ToWhitToWhoo · 09/12/2023 23:21

I would prefer not to have a funeral at all. But if my relatives insist, then obviously it has to be the song 'Isn't It Grand to be Bloody Well Dead'.

Projectme · 09/12/2023 23:22

Distant dreamer - Duffy

letshaveanicecuppatea · 09/12/2023 23:31

Jealous of the angels - Donna Taggart 😢

And Bye Bye Baby - Bay City Rollers 😊

Margotshypotheticaldog · 09/12/2023 23:38

To everyone who has experienced loss I'm sorry 😞
And @SnobblyBobbly thoughts to you. It's a whole other context when faced imminently in reality.

My late husband had Comfortably numb by Pink Floyd

Margotshypotheticaldog · 09/12/2023 23:44

@ToWhitToWhoo I think funerals are actually for those who have been left behind, not you. Funerals or memorial services or whatever your belief system invokes.
I'm irish and both of my parents passed away within 5 years. I'm not religious but We had 3/4 days of mourning in each case and it was exhausting but weirdly satisfying.

Cat Stevens - Oh Very Young x

Wrongcrued · 10/12/2023 00:12

I want a direct cremation, no one there feeling wretched. Simultaneously I'd like everyone to be gathering and yes remembering me in whatever they chose.

I'd love the theme from the Detectorists too playing in the background with lots of moving images all day. Plus these but my list changes all the time

Chemical Brothers - Got to keep on
Hope Tala - Tiptoeing
Empire of the Sun - We are the People

ShazzyG71 · 10/12/2023 00:23

No religious service for me. Straight to the crematorium.
This Fire Burns - Killswitch Engage
Highway to Hell - ACDC
and the kids have chosen Ding Dong the witch is dead from Wizard of Oz

ToWhitToWhoo · 10/12/2023 00:23

I am sorry for your losses When I have suffered bereavements, 'hell was other people', however well-meaning, and I desperately wished to grieve in privacy without anyone intruding. My parents (without any suggestion from me) both wished for no funeral, which was a great relief to me, insofar as anything can be a relief under such circumstances. A later memorial event is different for me, as it focuses on remembering the person who died, rather than focusing attention on the mourners, as can sometimes happen with a funeral. My earlier comment was a bit flippant; but of course I would not stop people from having a funeral for me if it comforts them (and after all, I won't be there!). But I wouldn't want them to feel they've got to.

@nopenotplaying
We had a direct cremation for my dad. We are a very small family and there would only have been about 7 of us for a funeral. We couldn’t face following a hearse or the curtains closing at a cremation so we didn’t. Dad went on his last journey from the hospital to the crem. We got together at mum and dads house on the day and had afternoon tea delivered and remembered dad in comfortable familiar surroundings. My mum has decided she wants the same. X

UnctuousUnicorns · 10/12/2023 00:34

Sleeping Soul - John Power
Winter Academy - Billy MacKenzrie

Schubert's 9th symphony, just because I love it and always have since I first heard it.
