I've narrowed it down to The Only living Boy in New York by Simon and Garfunkel ( I'm obsessed with the weather forecast, only news I need)
And Raise Hell by Brandi Carlisle. Also something by Magnetic fields....Andrew in Drag probably not appropriate though...

Requiem (Pie Jesu) Charlotte Church version (much better than Sarah Brightman!)

Have I told you lately - Van Morrison

HowToSaveAWife · 09/12/2023 20:08

If I get to choose, I'd rather have a living funeral but if I don't...

Into the Mystic - Van Morrison
Should I Ever Leave This World Behind - Pogues
Days Like This - Van Morrison

&

The Parting Glass. Acapella.

(In the living funeral version of this, I would sing The Parting Glass)

I want "you'll never walk alone". Only because my family are huge huge huge Everton fans and it would really annoy them.

I love my family but I love then idea of them all having to sit there listening to it.

I went to a funeral that had Z cars for the same, but opposite, reason!

AnotherStripyZebra · 09/12/2023 20:12

Gabriel's Oboe, The Mission - Morricone (first half, goes on a bit)
Lark Ascending - Vaughan Williams

piscofrisco · 09/12/2023 20:13

I am kloot! Used to love them, not listened to them in years! Off to look at the back catalogue

HuntingoftheSnark · 09/12/2023 20:13

Mozart piano sonata no. 16

And Can It Be - favourite hymn

I was at a funeral last week and the opening song was My Way by Frank Sinatra - apparently this is a popular choice.

What is this living funeral you speak of....??

La mort du peuple by Mickey 3d would be brilliant! With the Covid tribute video they made for it on a big screen.

catscatscurrantscurrants · 09/12/2023 20:16

My choices vary periodically. The only constant one is 'More than a Feeling' by Boston

lesdeluges · 09/12/2023 20:16

Pearl Fishers duet, sung by Jussi Bjorling and Robert Merrill. Only that version! Sublime.
And so it goes - Billy Joel
Summer in Dublin - Bagatelle. takes me back to the town of my youth.
Je ne regrette rien - Edith Piaf.

BeanNina · 09/12/2023 20:18

It's entirely your choice :) Personally mine is a television theme and anyone going against it will be haunted!!!!

ktktkts · 09/12/2023 20:18

The detectorists theme song (not a metal detector owner, just reminds me of watching it with my dad and the song is lovely)
Walk in the sun - McFly
Never forget you - Noisettes

SoundTheSirens · 09/12/2023 20:20

I'm potentially going to medical research when I die, but if I did have a funeral I'd want Troy by Sinead O'Connor and Local Hero by Mark Knopfler (I'm a lifelong Newcastle Utd fan and it's their team walkout music, and even without that it's a beautiful piece of music).

lululu16 · 09/12/2023 20:23

To build a home - the cinematic orchestra

MsJinks · 09/12/2023 20:25

Recently changed my 3 - now
Birds - Imagine Dragons (just love it and used it also for my dad’s entrance)
I’ll see you in my dreams - Bruce Springsteen (family stories and memories as well as loving the boss and the song)
Shut Up & Dance with me - Walk the Moon (should be fun dancing out - I like dancing, badly, but captured on video as danced with my granddaughter to this at my daughter’s wedding and apparently we both looked super happy, so would make my family smile )
I like the idea of a playlist for the rest of the day - I may record me singing and make everyone cry (I’m more than tone deaf and it’s a bit of a joke) 🤣
My mum just couldn’t help with my dad’s funeral and I tortured myself over the music (and rest) to be right for him but also my mum who couldn’t attend either - planning this does help …

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 09/12/2023 20:30

I want a Humanist funeral and for people to dance at it. This is my list so far, all of which I've chosen for the people or events they remind me of.
Everybody wants to rule the world
Walk on the Wild Side
Which Leonard Cohen? Probably "The Partisan"
Gounod's Ave Maria - possibly sung by Maria Callas
Bridget the Midget
Charles Trenet - À bicyclette
Piaf - Je ne regrette rien
Moustaki - Ma solitude
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Blondie - Heart of Glass
Dancing in the Dark - The Boss

snoopyfanaccountant · 09/12/2023 20:31

I briefly worked as a funeral arranger. I asked an old lady what music she wanted for the crematorium and she said that her late husband's favourite song was "Smoke gets in your eyes"; her daughter suggested that wasn't appropriate. We also had a service where the deceased (he had terminal cancer so had left instructions) had requested that everyone take part in the Hokey Cokey at the crematorium.

Personally I would choose:
Dance of the Blessed Spirits (to be played)
John Rutter's For the Beauty of the Earth (to be played)
Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone (to be sung)

Happyhippy99 · 09/12/2023 20:31

Any colour you like. Pink Floyd.

Izzabellasasperella · 09/12/2023 20:33

Jolene by Dolly Parton. I hope it will make my children smile.

BlowDryRat · 09/12/2023 20:34

Cherry Bomb - The Runaways. Just to make everyone raise their eyebrows 😁

Into the West - Annie Lennox & Howard Shore. Going behind the curtain as Annie's singing part finishes.

marthalovescheese · 09/12/2023 20:35

I went to a good friends funeral. She chose Paloma Faith - make your own kind of music. It was perfect. Had us smiling and crying at the same time.

Barneysmomma · 09/12/2023 20:36

Some Fantastic Place by Squeeze - listen to the words if you don't know it.
You by Ten Sharp
Viva La Vida by Coldplay

Whattheflipflap · 09/12/2023 20:36

People help the people by birdie.
my uncle had Burn baby burn as the curtain went in the crematorium which I think was amazing in hindsight. His personality came through 🥰🤣😞😢

dingit · 09/12/2023 20:39

Girl on fire- Alicia keys

Growlybear83 · 09/12/2023 20:42

Son's gonna rise by Citizen Cope, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath by Black Sabbath, and Fire by Arthur Brown as the curtains close over my coffin and I get wheeled off to be cremated.
