3 kids - gender stats probability

Blackcoffeeandbiscuits · 08/12/2023 13:29

I read in a few threads that the 3rd kid is most likely to be whatever the 2nd was.

So, if you had G-B then the third will be B
If you had B-G then another G is to follow
If you had G-G chances are that the third will be G, same as if you got B-B you will most likely get another B.

I know in theory each time the chances are 50-50 but this is what research/stats have said.

Is it true though? Let's find out!

AIBU - You have GBG or BGB or BBG or GGB
AINBU - You have GBB or BGG or BBB or GGG

Amongst my friends and family there is

GGB x 4
GGG x 2
BBG x 3
GBB x 1
GBG x 1
BGG x 2

Fern86 · 08/12/2023 17:38

I am one of GGGGGG!

Squidge123 · 08/12/2023 17:39

I have GBG same as my parents in same order.

XRAYTHIS · 08/12/2023 17:41

Do lots of people now say gender when referring to biological sex? I thought gender was now something selected later hence a large number of options?

I mean you couldn't be non binary or many of the other 150 or so options at birth, although who knows some might suggest you could 🤷

Lulaloo · 08/12/2023 17:42

BGB doesn’t seem to be as many.

InefficientProcess · 08/12/2023 17:43

@XRAYTHIS bowlderisation is why.

So now we are in this mess where people don’t talk about biological sex.

KnickerlessParsons · 08/12/2023 17:45

Friend had B, B and then BG twins

What do you make of that? 🤔

DemBonesDemBones · 08/12/2023 17:45

To not offend?

Who do you offend when say male or female sex at birth?

can’t be using a word like ‘sex’ though. People’s delicate sensibilities will be ruffled when you start using crude language.

Obviously I don’t agree with it. But that is why people started talking about gender instead of sex. And look where that’s led us.

asitwas689 · 08/12/2023 17:58

i have ggb. cousin has ggb, other cousin has gbg

princesspeppax · 08/12/2023 19:29

G B B

Zanatdy · 08/12/2023 19:38

Not true for me or my brother. Me: BBG Brother: GGB. I don’t know anyone else with 3 kids. All my friends with 2 kids had 2 x G, apart from one who had 1 of each. Friend with 4 kids had GGBB

Gender is sexist stereotypes & the whole prioritising gender identity over sex thing is stupid IMO. But it does chuck in an awful lot more variations for something like this.

You could have GBNonbinaryDemisomething-or-other.

gerteddy · 08/12/2023 19:59

I know lots of families with 3 that had 2 of one sex and then the third was the other sex. Another few I know have 3 all same sex.

SemperIdem · 08/12/2023 20:06

Of the threes I know there is:
GGG
BBB
GGB
GBB
BBG

Having opposite sex’s in the first two seems to be the most unusual combination to have a third added to it, based on the people I know. Definitely more 3’s where the first two are same sex.

ThreeLocusts · 08/12/2023 20:08

I read a newspaper item years ago about how third children of men who already have two daughters are more often girls than boys (in which case OP's starting hypothesis would have a bit of truth in it). Supposedly to do with these men having relatively low testosterone levels?

And somewhere, not sure if same article, I've read that men who have lots of sisters are more likely to have daughters (creating a kind of inflationary pressure in societies where parents are expected to go on having children until they have a boy).

There's so much sensationalist and shoddy research around hormones, though, that I'd rather not take any of it seriously. I think my DH is fairly low-testosterone and we're GGB.

BGB doesn’t seem to be as many.

It always seems to be a run of 2 same sex together, with the opposite sex either oldest or youngest but not in the middle. So GBB, GGB, BBG, BGG. Or 3 of the same sex.

It seems less common to have GBG or BGB.

QueenofFox · 08/12/2023 20:11

Iwasafool · 08/12/2023 20:11
