3 kids - gender stats probability

I read in a few threads that the 3rd kid is most likely to be whatever the 2nd was.

So, if you had G-B then the third will be B
If you had B-G then another G is to follow
If you had G-G chances are that the third will be G, same as if you got B-B you will most likely get another B.

I know in theory each time the chances are 50-50 but this is what research/stats have said.

Is it true though? Let's find out!

AIBU - You have GBG or BGB or BBG or GGB
AINBU - You have GBB or BGG or BBB or GGG

BGB here

Mrsphilmiller · 08/12/2023 14:55

I voted yanbu since my first 3 were GGG but 2nd and 3rd born were identical twins. Then I went on to have my 4th who is a boy.

1990thatsme · 08/12/2023 14:57

GBB. Expecting number four!

Dogcatmousedog · 08/12/2023 14:59

My children GBB

Topofthemountain · 08/12/2023 15:00

Sis has BBB

Nephew has BB G/G (twins)

17caterpillars1mouse · 08/12/2023 15:01

GGB here

Greybluewhite · 08/12/2023 15:03

BGB for me

Yuja · 08/12/2023 15:05

I only have two but me and my siblings GBG, DH and his siblings BBG, my brothers kids GBG

ditalini · 08/12/2023 15:27

Just twos in my immediate family, but casting the net a bit wider, the 3 or mores are:
BGB, BGB, BBGB, GBG, GGBB, GGG, BBBBG (but 3 of the Bs were triplets, so really BBG)

Not sure what you can do with this info. It might skew slightly true, but on a population level it's nearly 50:50 (skewing very slightly towards girls)

janfebmarchapril · 08/12/2023 15:34

My mum had- G G B
One of my aunties had B B B B B

What's your sample size? Until you're looking at enough randomly selected families, your data could be unrepresentative so no definitive conclusion.

But in any case it's probably not going to be true, apart from possibly a very small percentage skew either way.

weegiemum · 08/12/2023 16:57

I'm one of 3 - GGB
I have 3 -GBG

zingally · 08/12/2023 16:59

Thinking of families I know with 3 kids...

GGG
GGB
GGG
BGG
BGG
BBB

AmazingDayz · 08/12/2023 16:59

GBB (then another G)

TheGoogleMum · 08/12/2023 17:05

Most people I know seem to stop at 2 kids.
some of the people I know have the following:
BBB
BBG
GGG
GGGG
BBB

Similar to your theory I heard if you have 2 of the same sex your odds of the third being the same again is higher than 50%.

Blingismything · 08/12/2023 17:06

I am one of GGG
I have BBG

maltichi · 08/12/2023 17:08

I read somewhere that if you have two of the same you are quite a bit more likely to have a third that's the same.

I have BBB.

Blingismything · 08/12/2023 17:09

I also know
BGGB
BGBG
BBBB
GGGBBG (the last three are triplets)
BGGGB
BBG
GBB
So pretty random

restingrichface · 08/12/2023 17:10

GGG

Lannielou · 08/12/2023 17:13

GBGB

Onemoretimeok · 08/12/2023 17:14

Off the top of my head I know;

ggb
bgg
bbg
twinb g
twing b
b twing
b twinbg
g twinbg
g twingg
bbg
ggg
bbg
bgg
bbb

so seems random to me!

MargaretThursday · 08/12/2023 17:29

In my family all are either BBG or GGB. That's 5 families.
