3 kids - gender stats probability

I read in a few threads that the 3rd kid is most likely to be whatever the 2nd was.

So, if you had G-B then the third will be B
If you had B-G then another G is to follow
If you had G-G chances are that the third will be G, same as if you got B-B you will most likely get another B.

I know in theory each time the chances are 50-50 but this is what research/stats have said.

Is it true though? Let's find out!

This is not a very scientific poll.
If you follow the results then you are significantly LESS likely to have a 3rd ccild of the same gender as #2! 😄

Hadn't heard this, but had heard that if you have two of the same sex, the third is statistically more likely to also be that sex.

Statistically you're slightly more likely to have the same sex as your previous child. Also you're slightly more likely to have a boy than a girl. But it's only a slight difference, like 48:52 instead of 50 50. So you aren't going to tell by listing ten or 20 families that you know. It would show if you asked a few thousand families.

I also think there are far fewer with the first two being different. I think many of the third children are an attempt to have the different sex. Not all of them obviously, but I know far more GG and BB than BG or GB

So I think our observations of others won’t be very helpful.

Not asked, but suspect some of the BB and GG parents might have had DC3 hoping for G/B. Only 3 sets of parents actually said they had and they have BBB or GGG.

My parents had GBB and my in laws had BBG. We only have one child. I thought the sex of your child depends on when you ovulated.

Remember correlation doesn't mean causation.

There will also be eggs that fertilised but never stuck and very early miscarriages. How do they affect it?

I definitely don’t back any of the trends mentioned.
I had my children relatively late in life and my DH is a pilot. We have BBB.
