On a mini getaway and all 5 adults are miserable

Hi, just looking for advice/to rant.

We’ve arrived at a friend’s cabin in the Landes Forest, France. And the atmosphere is really awkward which is depressing.

Im 30, here with my parents, brother and sister (plus dog). Sister’s bf is joining us in a few days.

It’s been a few hours since we arrived. No one is angry but everyone seems off. Which is making me think…I want to go home.

My brother flies for EasyJet so am assuming he’s tired. After we arrived he walked the dog and is now just sat in the living room on his phone. My dad who is a stroke survivor has fallen asleep on the sofa next to my mum who has a tooth ache and is miserable looking.

I can tell no one wants to be here. The cabin is a bit grubby and we just left a house that has been completely gutted and looks amazing. Everyone seems on edge.

What can I do?

Dinner is the oven and I’m on my single bed with a cocktail. I’ve suggested a game but was told to “chill out”.

I would go out but have now drunk.

I’m still confused by the dog who’s also meant to fly aeroplanes??

The dog muttley is clearly driving the aircraft and his copilot is Dick Dastardly!

nutelia · 04/12/2023 23:15

Wait so your brother is a dog?

Are you all grown up adults going on holiday with mum and dad?

My first thought is, why??

Why not?

Can people not enjoy holidays with their families and parents if they’re adults?

What a ridiculous comment. Typical Mumsnet 😂

I wish to demur. It is not a dog it's a hairy cat. And the OP got confused between Cat and Capt.

MadeOfAllWork · 04/12/2023 23:28

Why would a pilot have a high viz?
Why would a cabin in France have a U.K. plug socket?

I’m now over invested.

I know, right?

This thread is making my insomnia worse!

Cocktail, glass of wine. French cabin/UK motel. Captain/small hairy animal.
Alll easy things to get mixed up.

PrimitivePerson · 04/12/2023 23:37

I'm taking a flight tomorrow, but thankfully with BA. If EasyJet are cutting costs by employing dogs to fly planes, I'd have some safety concerns there.

PrimitivePerson · 04/12/2023 23:40

Of course, Ryanair will want to cut costs even further, and have rats in the cockpit.

Thatsitfirtiday · 04/12/2023 23:41

Annoyingly this thread will have gone pouff by the morning

Sgtmajormummy · 04/12/2023 23:43

And why is Coca Cola turning transparent in the glass??

I go on holiday with my mum, brother and son every year. My mum and brother don’t live especially close by, so we have a chance to sit up chatting with a bottle of wine, go for walks together, and DS gets a chance to spend time with his beloved uncle. Can’t see what’s wrong with that. If they all lived on the same street and I saw them daily, no we probably wouldn’t bother.

If that were a crossword clue, the answer would be Wee Nippy

That room is not in France...

I was wondering why a bedroom in a cabin in a French forest is furnished exactly like the Holiday Inn 😬

NonPlayerCharacter · 04/12/2023 23:51

Just placemarking. If I just stick it on Watch I'll forget to look at it.

It's wine, apparently. Plug sockets look British though?

PrimitivePerson · 04/12/2023 23:55

Je sens l'odeur d'un rat.

Is the dog your brother?

EtiennePalmiere · 05/12/2023 00:13

Definitely a UK plug lol

thebestinterest · 05/12/2023 00:14

Pop a bottle of wine and clean anything that feels grubby, like toilet and sinks.

let people relax… don’t stress. Go for a walk!

Definitely a UK plug lol

Or Ireland, Malta, Kenya, Malaysia
to name but a few other countries that use a type G 3 pin plug, but definitely not France.
