On a mini getaway and all 5 adults are miserable

Hi, just looking for advice/to rant.

We’ve arrived at a friend’s cabin in the Landes Forest, France. And the atmosphere is really awkward which is depressing.

Im 30, here with my parents, brother and sister (plus dog). Sister’s bf is joining us in a few days.

It’s been a few hours since we arrived. No one is angry but everyone seems off. Which is making me think…I want to go home.

My brother flies for EasyJet so am assuming he’s tired. After we arrived he walked the dog and is now just sat in the living room on his phone. My dad who is a stroke survivor has fallen asleep on the sofa next to my mum who has a tooth ache and is miserable looking.

I can tell no one wants to be here. The cabin is a bit grubby and we just left a house that has been completely gutted and looks amazing. Everyone seems on edge.

What can I do?

Dinner is the oven and I’m on my single bed with a cocktail. I’ve suggested a game but was told to “chill out”.

I would go out but have now drunk.

Opened a bottle but I’ve been weirdly intolerant of alcohol recently. Not even got that to amuse myself!

Is that a UK plug socket?

Your cabin in France has UK plug sockets and light switches, why? This photo looks like a Premier Inn.

Offer wine with dinner.
Make everyone a hot toddler before bed.
Tomorrow after breakfast see if any one wants to go for a walk or a shop. Hopefully a good rest will perk everyone up. 🙏

Red0 · 04/12/2023 22:49

How old are you OP?

I think five hot toddlers is the last thing this thread needs.

Almondmum · 04/12/2023 22:50

A hot toddler?! A feverish child is just what this thread needs to ramp up the drama

BubbleBubbleBubbleBubblePop · 04/12/2023 22:51

People have been travelling, they just want to relax tonight, leave them be.

notacooldad · 04/12/2023 22:52

Are you all grown up adults going on holiday with mum and dad?

My first thought is, why??

Why not?
Me and Dh go away with our adult kids a couple of times a year. Normally skiing or hiking but whatever we do, we all enjoy each others company.

Is that a UK plug socket?

Bingo. I spotted it immediately.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 04/12/2023 22:55

I thought premier inns are comfortable these days?!

"Yes, I was so inspired by the decor at the Luton Travelodge that I chose to reproduce every detail in my French cabin."

😂

And tonight in Shocking News... It's is confirmed, everyone is different... DUN DUN DUN-DUN-DUN DUUUUUUUUUN

fingerguns · 04/12/2023 23:01

You've been led to believe you're in a cabin in the Landes Forest. What you haven't realised, is in fact you're in Longleat forest at Centreparcs ! Mon dieu, the french name must have thrown you off.

Tomorrow afternoon that barely tolerable wine you'll be fine. Have fun! A demain !

YouJustDoYou · 04/12/2023 23:02

That's a UK PLUG SOCKET, lol

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 04/12/2023 23:03

I’m still confused by the dog who’s also meant to fly aeroplanes??

nutelia · 04/12/2023 23:04

That room looks identical to a centre parcs bedroom

DiamandaTheGreat · 04/12/2023 23:05

Okaaay. Whereabouts in Les Landes are you, OP?

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 04/12/2023 23:06

SomeCatFromJapan · 04/12/2023 22:17

That plug socket doesn't look right.

Looks rather like a UK Plug socket to me!!

nutelia · 04/12/2023 23:09

And why is there a dog in a hi viz? 😭

If this is all made-up then it’s very random. I’m guessing the OP was just getting started setting the scene of spooky cabin in the woods, seemingly mundane post about family holiday dynamics then it was going to get interesting!

EachandEveryone · 04/12/2023 23:10

Its not a Premier Inn room their two singles are normally one pull out. Ive never been to Center Parcs so I cant say. Weird thread though. I’ll be up all night now.

A few hot toddlers would definitely change the atmosphere!

Psyberbaby · 04/12/2023 23:11

That room looks like a premier Inn. Also you said you were having a cocktail on your bed but your photo shows wine. Also you have managed to fly your dog from uk to France by easyjet?

Pilots don't actually wear those jackets,, the brother is really a dispatcher. Lying about his job, he therefore had to lie about taking them abroad. They're in a Travelodge in Scunthorpe.
He certainly is very hairy and diminutive, but then again we haven't seen the OP.

I think the cocktail is the glass of wine and the coca cola. She's probably got pork scratchings as well.
