On a mini getaway and all 5 adults are miserable

Hi, just looking for advice/to rant.

We’ve arrived at a friend’s cabin in the Landes Forest, France. And the atmosphere is really awkward which is depressing.

Im 30, here with my parents, brother and sister (plus dog). Sister’s bf is joining us in a few days.

It’s been a few hours since we arrived. No one is angry but everyone seems off. Which is making me think…I want to go home.

My brother flies for EasyJet so am assuming he’s tired. After we arrived he walked the dog and is now just sat in the living room on his phone. My dad who is a stroke survivor has fallen asleep on the sofa next to my mum who has a tooth ache and is miserable looking.

I can tell no one wants to be here. The cabin is a bit grubby and we just left a house that has been completely gutted and looks amazing. Everyone seems on edge.

What can I do?

Dinner is the oven and I’m on my single bed with a cocktail. I’ve suggested a game but was told to “chill out”.

I would go out but have now drunk.

I do wonder what OP was planning to do with the scene she had set? Would one guest take a turn for the worse or would it be the easyJet werewolf storyline?

googled map it, the area does not look like cabins in a forest

Congratulations to all involved in this thread, including the OP. It has been the most amusing thread on MN in a long time. Merci Beaucoup!

I love how people are still posting with serious advice. Why do people post on a long thread without reading the updates?

That's just part of the wondrous joy of it all. It's like we have a secret subthread that only we can read!

Dog Soldiers scenario - the one you don't suspect turns out to be un loup-garou and wreaks le havoc.

'There is no Spoons!'

Or that could just be a description of the failings of the kitchen equipment

EeesandWhizz · 05/12/2023 22:24

I wonder if the op has left an important part of her brain somewhere?

Somewhere in a field in Hampshire.

Just a suggestion, lie down quietly and go into a calm meditive like state. Notice your breath going in and out and relax. Then think about all the people on your trip and mentally send them unconditional love. If you feel any resistance it doesn't matter, just be prepared and willing. Also send them healing love and good vibes. Include yourself in this.
Try it, it has had wonderful results for myself and loved ones.

WhyteGoodnite · 05/12/2023 22:49

YABU to be miserable when you are at a cottage with a dog. I'm sure he/she isn't unhappy!
Chill out, walk the dog and wait for tomorrow.

Yes, it's sometimes good to unplug oneself from the stresses of life.

This was meant to be quoting the person who loved the Premier inn beds.... I realise the lack of quote for context makes it seem a little unhinged.. .

Get the luminol out

I dread to think! This and a cufflink under the bed was enough to gross me out.

It's distracting me from the horror of my actual life so I'm grateful! I'm really enjoying the fact that there are two parallel threads - one sober one with people earnestly and with all goodwill answering the OP, and the other one with hot toddlers and puppy pilots and mad detectives where we are all batshit crazy. 🦇💩🤪

🤣🤣 I was one of the earnest repliers!
