On a mini getaway and all 5 adults are miserable

Hi, just looking for advice/to rant.

We’ve arrived at a friend’s cabin in the Landes Forest, France. And the atmosphere is really awkward which is depressing.

Im 30, here with my parents, brother and sister (plus dog). Sister’s bf is joining us in a few days.

It’s been a few hours since we arrived. No one is angry but everyone seems off. Which is making me think…I want to go home.

My brother flies for EasyJet so am assuming he’s tired. After we arrived he walked the dog and is now just sat in the living room on his phone. My dad who is a stroke survivor has fallen asleep on the sofa next to my mum who has a tooth ache and is miserable looking.

I can tell no one wants to be here. The cabin is a bit grubby and we just left a house that has been completely gutted and looks amazing. Everyone seems on edge.

What can I do?

Dinner is the oven and I’m on my single bed with a cocktail. I’ve suggested a game but was told to “chill out”.

I would go out but have now drunk.

UK plug socket on the wall of what is obviously some sort of hotel room or holiday home. That room is absolutely not in France.

Duh, pain bad and not slept since Sunday!

Make this your last holiday with your family

never a good idea over the age of 15

out of curiosity, where is sisters boyfriend going to sleep if you’re sharing a twin?

🤣

In the pilot’s basket obviously 🙄 🐾

🤣🤣 I was one of the earnest repliers!

Welcome to the dark side! We probably have werewolves, and a Windigo or two out there in the French (possibly not French) woods. Did you bring snacks?

@Frazzledandfried That headboard is fucking terrifying.

The headboard when I walked into the room of the last Premier inn I stayed at...ever!

😱 Bloody hell, Fraz.

Just a suggestion, lie down quietly and go into a calm meditive like state. Notice your breath going in and out and relax. Then think about all the people on your trip and mentally send them unconditional love. If you feel any resistance it doesn't matter, just be prepared and willing. Also send them healing love and good vibes. Include yourself in this.
Try it, it has had wonderful results for myself and loved ones.

As if this thread couldn’t get any funnier we have Captain Woo on board to make sure the EasyPet holiday makers are saved from going round in circles with that strange little hairy pilot 😂

This sounds very much like the start to a film I watched recently on Netflix, only it was a couple, not a family, and they arrived at their holiday home in Italy, exhausted and ratty with each other. Then strange things started happening and they both blamed each other and in the end it turned out that the landlord was a voyeur and so were all his mates in the village and I think everyone ended up dead.

Here's hoping your holiday is better than that, OP, UK plug socket or not.

Was the film called The Comfort of Strangers? Most sinister film I've ever seen.

I dread to think! This and a cufflink under the bed was enough to gross me out.

Who the eff wears cuff links any more? I don't even have a shirt which would take cuff links. (Though I do have some cuff links... gold, with my initials engraved, given to me by my mother 50 years ago.)

Oh, I get it... it was a link from handcuffs... bondage play? 😏

MyCupOfTea32 · 06/12/2023 04:47

That looks exactly like a bedroom in a Forest Holidays lodge. I’ve stayed in one relatively recently. They don’t have any in France as far as I’m aware.

They are dog (werewolf?) friendly though…

I've had to get up earlier this morning than usual to travel for work and I've eaten sugary Costa shite for breakfast on the train, so I'm going to add that as some context for the fact that I slightly retched at this image. Yuk.

Snort @graceinspace999

Poor op. I don’t think they’re coming back. I just went down a procrastination rabbit hole and found this forest holiday bedroom, looks very similar/ familiar.
why pretend to be in France with such a specific named location etc?
the whole story makes less sense if they only travelled within the uk.
but we all know this anyway….

Fuck it off and get pissed

I think the OP's taken your advice 😀

Unbego · 06/12/2023 16:38

Excellent work everyone.

However, I think you missed why these people hired a Hampshire obsessed dog-pilot for their trip. OP says they've left behind a house that was "gutted" ie one from which everything was removed. This is a HEIST situation and the perps are waiting for the heat to die down. If they'd had a human pilot he might have shopped them to les flics.

LucillaTeatime · 06/12/2023 17:19

C'est une thread tres jolie! J'aime le petit chien et son seour. Mercie beaucoup et encore s'ille vous plait! (Avec beucoup de chein (or maybe he is just a very small, polite werewolf?) ) 🐺

EeesandWhizz · 05/12/2023 22:24

I wonder if the op has left an important part of her brain somewhere?

Somewhere in a field in Hampshire.

That was my thought when I read @Lunde's comment too.

But with your UN, you could hardly have thought anything else

BenWishawFan · 06/12/2023 22:11

OP, you should have picked Germany!

My SIL once excitedly told me they’d hired a cabin in the Black Forest with a hot tub and that they were looking forward to being close enough for me to visit while there.

They were also on a Forest Holidays! In the Blackwood Forest, in Hampshire. 😂

Snowplop · 07/12/2023 07:19

That is détective work par excellence, @carddino Bravo!
