On a mini getaway and all 5 adults are miserable

Hi, just looking for advice/to rant.

We’ve arrived at a friend’s cabin in the Landes Forest, France. And the atmosphere is really awkward which is depressing.

Im 30, here with my parents, brother and sister (plus dog). Sister’s bf is joining us in a few days.

It’s been a few hours since we arrived. No one is angry but everyone seems off. Which is making me think…I want to go home.

My brother flies for EasyJet so am assuming he’s tired. After we arrived he walked the dog and is now just sat in the living room on his phone. My dad who is a stroke survivor has fallen asleep on the sofa next to my mum who has a tooth ache and is miserable looking.

I can tell no one wants to be here. The cabin is a bit grubby and we just left a house that has been completely gutted and looks amazing. Everyone seems on edge.

What can I do?

Dinner is the oven and I’m on my single bed with a cocktail. I’ve suggested a game but was told to “chill out”.

I would go out but have now drunk.

Make this your last holiday with your family

never a good idea over the age of 15

out of curiosity, where is sisters boyfriend going to sleep if you’re sharing a twin?

🤣

Or Ireland, Malta, Kenya, Malaysia
to name but a few other countries that use a type G 3 pin plug, but definitely not France.

Can someone please tell me about the different plugs. I knew they were different in the USA, which is why we had to get our DD an adapter before her UK exchange visit. But there are even other different plugs? Mon Dieu!

DavesRaves · 05/12/2023 19:56

It's great that the French have changed all their plug sockets to British ones.
Saves the hassle of remembering to take adapters when you visit.😉

Good question.

She does have a UTI so maybe Sis has told him he's got to sleep on his own.

I meant a hot toddy!

But, the hot toddlers added a nice element to the story. Though, I admit, I had no clue it was so warm in the part of the UK that is also part of France, deep in the forest where parcs cabins reproduce and pretend they are French......

Most countries in mainland Europe use sockets like this.

Some music?

Thank you for showing me that! They are certainly different from the ones on this side of the pond and the UK. Someone's (OP's)👖are on🔥.

Doone22 · 05/12/2023 20:24

It's very unfortunate. Pamper yourself and the others by doing whatever brings you comfort when you feel shit. Find some good cheesy films, comfort food, buckets of blankets, fire, chocs, and don't forget the booze
Don't make anyone go out or do anything.

Laugh Out Loud Laughing GIF by Aurora Consulting

@LuciaPillson and @UnctuousUnicorns

You both made me laugh so hard I almost snorted my cola!

Thank you for the deepest belly laugh I have had in quite a while (though it seems I get more here than most places these days).

Fabulously Brilliant!

lesdeluges · 05/12/2023 20:29

Feck sake, the hot toddlers. Jesus I'm in stitches.

I'd say you were all blindfolded and asked to guess where you were going. First person to get it right was dropped at the airport for EasyPet travel in style, the rest had to make do with dodgy sockets and a long drive.

Best thread in a long time. Honestly some of you would give the so called "comedians" out there a run for their money.

Bravo tout le monde.

You're welcome. :) Spotting odd details that are wrong like that is also my autistic superpower.

ThePoshUns · 05/12/2023 20:34

Congratulations to all involved in this thread, including the OP. It has been the most amusing thread on MN in a long time. Merci Beaucoup!

Guesswho88 · 05/12/2023 20:47

I think there's a reason people have told you to chill out. You're seriously looking for advice on Mumsnet how to talk to your own family? This is so weird.

LuciaPillson · 05/12/2023 20:48

It's distracting me from the horror of my actual life so I'm grateful! I'm really enjoying the fact that there are two parallel threads - one sober one with people earnestly and with all goodwill answering the OP, and the other one with hot toddlers and puppy pilots and mad detectives where we are all batshit crazy. 🦇💩🤪

Pollythenurse · 05/12/2023 20:56

Fuck it off and get pissed

I know. It's brilliant

Lunde · 05/12/2023 21:14

No wonder everyone is miserable - they thought they were going to France but ended up in a cabin in Hampshire!

How is this thread still here?

It's an early Christmas present.

PrimitivePerson · 05/12/2023 21:35

I think OP is clearly caught in some sort of rip in the space-time continuum that joins the UK and France, and blocks mobile signals. That'll be why she's gone quiet. Either that or the dog has crashed the plane.

LittleMonks11 · 05/12/2023 21:48

The entire family has been out since yesterday painting the garage door a colour each as they couldn't decide on just the one.

Five hot toddlers is so hilariously specific 😂
