Milkshake story den.

Why are we reading books about pride, gender and drag to pre-school children.

For what’s its worth OP I agree. Sick and tired of it being shoved at us every five bloody minutes.

No, it just needs to not be shown during a children's show, not everything needs to be cancelled.

The book is written for preschoolers

Caerulea · 01/12/2023 09:29

For me it's not the kissing or gayness or transness that's an issue - it's the bdsm gear which is purely sexual thing. Fine for adults? Of course, have at it.

For a kids book? Uh...no. Same as any kinky clothing. If it's just about sex then adults only. I can't see any way to defend it, it's just very very weird to put in a children's book 🤷🏼‍♀️

HeliumChestedTrollop · 01/12/2023 09:30

so glad my children are grown up

I would NOT be exposing them to this bollocks

There's also a depiction of a topless women with double mastectomy scars, which I can guarantee is not a depiction of a cancer survivor

I have mastectomy scar. I’m a woman who had cancer and chose not to have reconstruction 🤷‍♀️

Anyway. Don’t know the book. Looks completely inappropriate for primary children.

What's your point? The picture has nothing to do with cancer.

It's glorifying unneeded surgery on healthy tissue

So glad that my kids are older and not being subjected to this shit at a young age - preschoolers!!

Quote of the day. Mine is only 4 and I don’t want him seeing this either!

Absolutely.

Preschool picture books shouldn’t be showing BDSM fetish wear and I’m astonished anyone could argue otherwise.

TheKeatingFive · 01/12/2023 09:32

Acceptance and tolerance apparently

curtaintwitcher78 · 01/12/2023 09:33

'doesn't need to know what drag is, considering it's adult entertainment'
Danny La Rue
Dame Edna
Hinge and Bracket
Cissy and Ada (Les Dawson and Roy Barraclough)
Widow Twanky
Lily Savage on Blankety Blank and This Morning
Old Mother Riley
Stanley Baxter
Jethrine Clampett
Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis in Some Like it Hot
Mrs Brown

Drag has been around for ages. Talk about S&M outfits if you like but calm yourself about drag.

BeigeChair · 01/12/2023 09:33

Teach about love is love/same sex absolutely. But kids don’t need to see adults in fetish gear

sollenwir · 01/12/2023 09:33

Two thoughts:

We absolutely need to teach kids, from a young age, that LGBTQIA+ people are part of life, and that they are just as valued as any other person.

We also need to teach things in an age appropriate way, so I would be wary of anything oversexualised on any body and not just an LGBTQIA+ one - I think the black outfit there could be considered a bit much for toddlers tbh, but someone in a Pride T-shirt or dressed in a drag outfit such as a big dress, make-up, hair, is probably ok.

Holdmeclosedontletmego · 01/12/2023 09:34

wow! It’s disgusting.

mogsrus · 01/12/2023 09:34

Famous 5 go camping will be the next book to be rewritten lol

littlefifi · 01/12/2023 09:34

Would we be ok with a gimp mask or a sexy French maid or a dildo or a naughty nurse outfit in a child's book? No because it's sexual. Nothing to do with age or gender, it's just inappropriate for preschool children ffs.

Soubriquet · 01/12/2023 09:35

I’ve sent a complaint off. Like I said, trans issue aside, it’s the BDSM gear that really bother me.

Drag has been around for ages

In fairness, none of those examples have toddlers as their target market

endofthelinefinally · 01/12/2023 09:37

And the MAP references.
