Milkshake story den.

Why are we reading books about pride, gender and drag to pre-school children.

Ok../teaching a child about same sex relationships is fine. Teaching them about kink at the age of 2 is not! Totally not right

Agreed. This is my view - same sex relationships, yes. Blokes in bondage gear - NO.

Just had to google what heart glasses have to do with Lolita, and they weren't even in the book apparently.

Also those glasses are sold in several styles at Claire's. Is Claire's also a paedo org?

Honestly, I think they're just glasses in a kid's room. And even if your conspiracy is right, the only people who would put those pieces together are literally paedophiles.

You only need to google the movie poster to see the symbolism in the heart glasses and the link to Lolita. From an author and illustrator who openly uses carefully chosen symbols in his work…

Im sure it’s just a random collection of things in a child’s room though.

Alongside the ‘MAP’. And the slogan used by a fairly well known group who advocate relationships between children and adults.

Pure coincidence.

Look, I know this stuff is disturbing - and it’s also annoying to be told that you’re naive. You carry on doubling down if you like.

But ask yourself which is more of a leap -

Book (by author who admits lacing his texts with highly symbolic details) featuring images of fetish-wear for viewing by pre-schoolers coincidentally features other symptoms of boundary-pushing revolving around youngsters

OR

Perverts with sexual designs on children do underhand stuff to further their cause.

I mean, come on. There are a lot of disgusting men out there. This isn’t new information.

This. Even if you think the author totally innocently put several small deniable references to paedophilia in a children's picture book, just completely random, no other inferences - you're defending a book for small children which definitely includes depictions of BDSM/kink. Why do under fives need to see cartoons of men in fetish wear?

Zebedee55 · 02/12/2023 17:08

I wouldn’t read it to a child that age, but each to their own.

There's also a depiction of a topless women with double mastectomy scars, which I can guarantee is not a depiction of a cancer survivor.

Actually there is a lady who is well known in the running community who does run topless proudly showing her double mastectomy scars

Breast cancer survivor says running topless has empowered her

The mother of two and marathoner takes pride in her mastectomy scars.

Even if you ignore the small details like the MAP etc can anyone tell me how a story about an old man in leather pants benefits kids?

So you’ve never seen the rather well known poster from Kubricks’s film before then?

All of you right wingers getting upset about a book about trans people really make me glad I live in Bristol. These kind of opinions aren’t ok here.

I understand that the daily mail and gb news has a lot of sway. I know you can go down a rabbit hole with conspiracy about trans people. But perhaps look at yourselves in the mirror. The Views on this thread are pretty disgusting and shouldn’t be tolerated.

it isn’t the 1950s any more.

LOL. It's not a book about transpeople. I'm not sure anyone's even mentioned transpeople on the thread. And yet here you are, throwing around insults. It isn't as effective as it used to be.

So anyway, why are you so in favour of a children's picture book including drawings of men in BDSM outfits?

Ah, the men are here to instruct women in their sacred duty to be kind and never, ever think.

Would you say that if Nightmare on Elm Street was being shown on the Milkshake slot? Or Lady Chatterley's Lover?

Some things are not for children, and adults should not be showing those things to children. Illustrations of fetish wear are not for children.

Thanks for the reply Stephanie but when did I mention women?

I am a proud trans activist and a proud feminist. The two aren’t mutually exclusive. 😊

Oh come on. Which do you think the author was depicting in this particular book, a marathon runner who had cancer or a transman with scars from an elective double mastectomy?

No, you're right. You're absolutely a male feminist who came on to mumsnet to scold men about kindness.

Men are just as capable of transphobia as women. I was scolding everyone inclusively.

And calling women on here concerned about safeguarding children from age inappropriate content "right wing " with pretty disgusting views that "shouldn't be tolerated".

Yeah - a real "feminist" 😂😂

Always interesting when new posters drop by to scold women. Or did you just name change especially?

Always the same tired tropes too.

I'd go on pistonheads or somewhere if you're looking for men to scold, tbh.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 02/12/2023 18:32

It's interesting how many men are determined to portray safeguarding children as right wing bigotry. They've got quite a campaign going on.
Wonder what it is about safeguarding children they're so frantic to stop?

It sure is a mystery!

They must have someone’s best interests at heart? I wonder whose? 🤔
