Milkshake story den.

Why are we reading books about pride, gender and drag to pre-school children.

Because lots of people
are gay, lots of people go to Pride and some kids have gay grandparents.
Next stupid question.

Whybobbins · 02/12/2023 12:59

‘Just turn the TV off then or turn to another channel.’

also this. Your child may be gay or may not be gay, but this story isn’t going to make any difference to that. So chill the f@ck out!

Why? To get another stupid answer? No, thanks.

You could also add in a Polaroid camera and lolita sunglasses just to really spell it out?

And what has been suspected to be a used condom in the background…

Did you read the thread? It's not the gay part people are objecting to, it's the BDSM/kink and paedophile references. Kids book about a gay grandad? Lovely. Kids book with people in fetish gear? No Thank You. Stop using LGB people as a shield for things which do not belong in a kids picture book or on kids TV

Whybobbins · 02/12/2023 14:36

No, but I have read the book. And the work of a kinky satan out to corrupt your 2 years olds it is not.

CountryStore · 02/12/2023 14:52

If the MAP thing was just a naive mistake made by the illustrator, surely they would be absolutely horrified by the other meaning, and it would be removed in the next print run? And an apology issued?
Has this happened or not?

OneTC · 02/12/2023 14:58

Can't believe anyone is defending a kids book about grandad and his studded leather Y-fronts

Here’s the author talking about another piece of their work:

It allowed me to add a lot of intricate detail and hidden symbolism, which is something I’ve always been drawn to anyway, but it’s reaaaally exaggerated here.

The MAP thing is so obviously a sinister reference. There is no reason the illustrator would plaster MAP over that dubious picture of a ‘map’. What kind of map would that even be?

Honestly, I know certain people like to accuse us of ‘over-thinking’, but I think there’s a hell of a lot more under-thinking going on in general.

Universalsnail · 02/12/2023 15:28

It's not a peado reference. It's a slogan that has been used by the gay community for a very long time. Unless you have direct evidence that the illustrator of this book added a direct reference to some weird peado organisation only a select few people know about here you are really stretching

Universalsnail · 02/12/2023 15:41

The picture that says MAP is literally a drawing of a map in a box of other travel stuff like a compass and an Eiffel tower. Even if the artist has snuck in some weird peado hidden meaning symbolism, which is a pretty serious accusation to make with regarding a children's book so people need more evidence then any given here to be accusing someone of that, no child reading this book is like oh look a picture of a map that says MAP and a sign that says love is love in a tiny section of this picture, I am more susceptible to child abuse now. Its completely beyond rediculous

StephanieSuperpowers · 02/12/2023 16:11

I can see some of you are forced to pretend that MAP really, totally means maps in a book where the PIE slogan is used and granddad wears fetishism gear. Seems simpler to say that anything that could be misinterpreted in that way should not be in books for children.

Did you not see the link a few posts up where the illustrator says he deliberately includes highly symbolic details?

Sure, it could just be a map. But… it’s not.

I'm honestly more concerned about anyone this knowledgeable with supposed paedophile secret code.

Great point. Unless you're completely ignorant of this stuff, you're an obvious danger to children.

Yeah, this is the sort of argument used by people who also refuse to see how girls’ clothing is ridiculously sexualised; it’s all wide-eyed “well, if you think it’s sexy, then you’re the one with the problem.” Grow up.

Knowing that MAP stands for Minor-attracted Person is not secret information.

GreenAppleCrumble · 02/12/2023 16:26

And the Lolita sunglasses? Just a massive coincidence then? Open your eyes.

Drag has been around for ages. Talk about S&M outfits if you like but calm yourself about drag.

All men dressing up as women. Not a very inclusive list.

It's just a few completely random items coincidentally in a children's book featuring older men in leather studded jocks for children. Anyone who thinks that anything means anything or could be unsuitable is you know, one of them.

Just had to google what heart glasses have to do with Lolita, and they weren't even in the book apparently.

Also those glasses are sold in several styles at Claire's. Is Claire's also a paedo org?

Honestly, I think they're just glasses in a kid's room. And even if your conspiracy is right, the only people who would put those pieces together are literally paedophiles.

I actually miss the days when children were allowed to be carefree and just be children. When I was young we could go swimming naked and there was no problem other than when we got cold.

Now you see fights over there not being enough changing room spaces and other such nonsense when it would be easier just to change them by the pool and head off home.

Look, I know this stuff is disturbing - and it’s also annoying to be told that you’re naive. You carry on doubling down if you like.

But ask yourself which is more of a leap -

Book (by author who admits lacing his texts with highly symbolic details) featuring images of fetish-wear for viewing by pre-schoolers coincidentally features other symptoms of boundary-pushing revolving around youngsters

OR

Perverts with sexual designs on children do underhand stuff to further their cause.

I mean, come on. There are a lot of disgusting men out there. This isn’t new information.

Of course, you’re right. Paedophiles are a new invention and no kids ever came to harm back then. FFS.
