Shared by an elderly friend of my mum’s on Facebook. I find it offensive but I’m debating whether it’s worth the hassle of saying so.

It’s certainly not kind, it’s condescending and misogynistic. I’ve known her my whole life and I’ve never seen her be unkind before, actually she did my mum a great kindness many years ago, so I’m not looking to be confrontational or mean.

I just think shit like this being unchallenged makes the world a little bit worse off every day.

Yes it’s offensive and utter crap since we’re born naked!

Verv · 29/11/2023 18:00

I'd just tag one of these groups in a comment tbh.
just put an @ in front of the group name and it'll link directly to it.

IAmAnIdiot123 · 29/11/2023 18:03

If I absolutely had to comment it would be 'this didn't happen so hard it unhappenned things that actually happened' and move on with my day.

I imagine she probably shared it by mistake if totally out of character and no comment or remark for why she is sharing it.

I'm guessing both of you are trying to say if that a woman is wearing something revealing they are asking to be attacked or raped?

I like to think no one on MN would say/think that, except maybe one of the male MRA trolls.

The Botox Look is the most concerning in young people (it is sad enough in older people but at least they probably had their natural look in their youth) it is already starting to look very dated and strange (as is the whole social media "My phone is my Magic Power Wand" thing actually) Note to younger folks - All moments in popular culture eventually die and get replaced with something else, even although while you are living it it seems absolute and non-replaceable, in the future there will be TV shows ripping the piss out of people stuffed with Botox waving phones about like lost sheep looking for their shepherd.

Edited

They do say and think it, sadly, and I don't think it's just the MRAs who hide on here at various levels of disguise. They backpedal like mad when called on it (they could just retract it and say they've reconsidered) but yes, they think and say it.

Emi199 · 29/11/2023 18:08

It’s a load of crap but I wouldn’t have Facebook with more than a small number of friends if I got offended by stuff like this.

Roastpotatoesat3 · 29/11/2023 18:09

You know this inline with lots of religions yes? Would you say something if a Muslim wrote similar? No you wouldn’t, you would say “everyone is entitled to their opinion” so why pick on your neighbour that has same views as millions in our country and around the world? Treat everyone the same!!

Allfur · 29/11/2023 18:09

Party poops, both use precious stone as an allegory

porridgeisbae · 29/11/2023 18:09

@NonPlayerCharacter It's not what anyone in this thread has said, that's for sure.

But if someone dresses like they might be 'available' then the likelihood is they're available (for consensual sex of course.) If they weren't, they'd dress another way probably. I know there are trends and young people like to follow the trends and most trends tend to be revealing, though.

BrimfulOfMash · 29/11/2023 18:10

The victim blaming for assault is pretty bad.

But dear oh dear - Mansplaining is so lengthy and pompous, is it not?

P.S No, she is not a product of her time. Unless she is incredibly ancient she lived her youth in the thick of Women's Liberation, almost certainly wore mini skirts etc etc.

Everyone over the age of 60 is not a dim misogynist.

Obviously it’s mildly offensive but it’s also just rubbish internet guff that you shouldn’t spend a single second thinking about.

StuartSheehyisBack · 29/11/2023 18:17

I’d love to add a cheeky comment along the lines of ‘I didn’t know you’d joined the taliban’ but I think it’d go over her head.

Lordy me, she must be spectacularly thick if you think a comment like that would go over her head! It is about as subtle as a sledgehammer

Exactly, but here we are at 7 pages and counting.........

EyeInTheSky23 · 29/11/2023 18:20

‘I didn’t know you’d joined the taliban

Yeah, I was thinking it's funny where islamic fundamentalists pop up - little old (presumably Christian) British ladies, who'd have guessed.

EyeInTheSky23 · 29/11/2023 18:21

You have photos of her mini skirts?!

Oh, I couldn't resist posting one in response.

OhNoOhNo · 29/11/2023 18:21

I actually am a conservative dresser (maxi dresses, no shorts just trousers, no cleavage, no sleeveless etc), and I laughed at the fact that it was an 'older man' patronising the woman in the 'story'.

I think if people prefer to dress conservatively that's their right. e.g. I hate the way cleavage looks on most women (and Russell Brand) in most types of tops/dresses.

But I hate that people think they can tell other people how to dress even more.

EyeInTheSky23 · 29/11/2023 18:22

Anyway in general... She must be triggered non stop if she sets foot outside the door ... With all the buttock and vulva defining leggings around.

Please say your Taliban line! So good 👏

EyeInTheSky23 · 29/11/2023 18:24

Well ....

Calmondeck · 29/11/2023 18:26

Preferably say the Taliban line with a picture of her in a miniskirt. It’s too good an opportunity not to take. Let us know the reaction

MsRosley · 29/11/2023 18:27

The post is misogynistic garbage, but to be fair I don't want to see anyone's arse cheeks hanging outside their shorts, male or female.
