Butter or no butter

Not really an AIBU but more a poll. Had one of those random conversations in work about favourite things to spread on toast. Fairly even across the toppings marmite, jam etc. The real difference of opinion was do you use butter/spread when you are having peanut butter on your toast. Roughly half the pb users were insistent you did the others were horrified. So ordinary butter/spread then pb = yabu
Just pb = yanbu

//PEDANTRY MODE ON

Margarine isn't sold in the UK any more. Margarine by definition has over 80% fat, and has not been sold in the UK for a good number of years. What are sold are called 'spreads'.

Interestingly even chefs don't seem to know this. James Martin recently said that margarine shouldn't be sold in the UK.

The issue with the word 'spread' is, it's kind of unclear. People know exactly what you mean when you say margarine. You can spread many things on your toast that aren't that kind of 'spread'.

You're not at Weight Watchers in the 1980s now, Pamela.

😂 Some of us have to watch our calories!

No butter with peanut butter, but Marmite and peanut butter every time!

HarpieDuJour · 28/11/2023 18:29

Butter every time. I only occasionally have anything on top of it, and never, ever have hot toast, because it ruins the butter.

bellac11 · 28/11/2023 18:35

Butter with everything. Bread, toast, potatoes, vegetables, pasta, spread on bits of cucumber.
On scones (now thats controversial I believe)

BrieAndChilli · 28/11/2023 18:39

I always have butter with any spread including peanut butter. However I like lots of butter and a tiny smear of spread, I can’t stand a thick covering of any thing, jam, pb etc. you can barely see the spread on my toast!

Why would you put two types of fat on the toast?

Because it is delicious.

LadyEloise1 · 28/11/2023 18:44

I love butter
Irish butter from grass fed cows.
But I'd never use butter and peanut butter together 😮

SurelySmartie · 28/11/2023 18:46

Just peanut butter on its own. It’s instead of butter.

MartyMcFlysPurpleUnderwear · 28/11/2023 19:03

Always butter the toast.

PianPianPiano · 28/11/2023 19:13

I used to be horrified at the people who put butter under their PB. It seemed so unnecessary and far too many calories/fat.

And then I tried it....

Butter OP, always with butter.
