7 dogs in Starbucks today is too much

I turned around and walked out again, don’t get me started on dogs sniffing cups and plates of food whilst sat next to the owners.
What is the solution ?
Can’t dogs be left anymore?
AIBU to think dog separation cannot be so painful that dogs have to go everywhere!

Yep, entertainment while waiting for my delicious crumble to cool down.

The anger of the real dog hating obsessives on here is hilarious.

Projection.

busymomtoone · 26/11/2023 19:27

Madrid and Barcelona for starters.

Hotchocolatemousse · 26/11/2023 19:36

My local cafe has an Italian mastiff that drinks a cappuccino straight out of it's owners cup. Once he's finished, he gives his head a good shake and slobber goes all over the place. It's bloody revolting. I refuse to go there now as I'm concerned about the hygiene levels.

Much better than the amorous fox noises we’ll be getting during night hours soon… seriously, why do they sound like babies crying?

Sadly, I don't hear the eerie sound of vixens calling on their cubs anymore because they've built so many houses near me, where have they gone, 🫠

I disagree.

The dogs I've seen in every pub we went into on a Sunday were sitting on a chair next to the children in their families eati f Sunday roasts. Out of the four pubs we visited, they all allow dogs now didn't used to. One pub looked like the painting where all the dogs are playing snooker.

I would love to tolerate dogs but I can't as I can't breath around them. I'm unsure why that is tough shit for me and others who have asthma attacks from them. In school when one child has a nut allergy the school bans nuts for everyone as it is unfair, it is not about capitalism, it is about human decency.

Snowflakeslayer · 26/11/2023 19:39

I agree. Dogs are animals and shouldn’t be in places that serve food and drink. I’m a dog lover, but they have their places.
Also, many dog owners are convinced their dogs don’t stink, trust me, they do, you are just used to it, but they stink, and so do your houses, there, I said it.
It’s true. I know I won’t convince dog owners of this, and that’s fine, I’m happy to not have selfish habits and a smelly home.

busymomtoone · 26/11/2023 19:44

Nonsense - the nut banning is a total non sequitur to your argument- would you expect restaurants to ban every type of food people can be allergic to / ban every perfume and cosmetic people may have allergies to ? I’m sorry you believe you are allergic to all dogs - but pretty certain if you stayed on other side of room ( or find a different venue) you would be fine. Next you’ll be saying they shouldn’t be on the street because of your allergy!! Incidentally, my friend has a violent reaction to digs but still comes to stay - amazingly anti histamines work a treat. Mind you - she isn’t a dog hater.

Completelydonechick · 26/11/2023 19:45

Brilliant! Does Starbucks let dogs in? They’ll be 8 in there tomorrow 👍

Goldenbear · 26/11/2023 19:47

Absolutely has put me off eating a roast dinner at these places as they are over £100 for four, I wouldn't be spending that with such a low hygiene standard. I am not sure if it is in their favour financially as a family of four will go to a pub but then their dog has a seat and the place is full the whole of Sunday afternoon with perhaps only 6 families from all the space taken up. People wanting a drink, a couple going in and out within an hour never frequent these places anymore knowing that it is the family dog pub now so they are missing out on many customers with probably a higher turnover.

You are wrong Goldenbear

I lived in Barcelona for two years and there were dogs in virtually every cafe, and many shops and other places.

lilkitten · 26/11/2023 19:50

When I worked in a cafe and did my food hygiene course (about 2001) there was a thinking that dogs shouldn't be in food premises except guide dogs. I don't know what has changed. My family have dogs, they rarely take them to town with them, same with my partner - we walk her, take her home, then go for something to eat without her

threatmatrix · 26/11/2023 19:50

Deliadidit · 25/11/2023 18:50

I Vote with my feet too and won’t go into coffee shops that allow dogs in.

This country is becoming over run with bloody dogs! The solution is to stop treating them like babies and leave them at home.

Funny you should say this, I allow dogs in my coffee shop as it makes me more money.

They really do stink - I never noticed the smell at my parents house until I'd moved away for a bit

It's an airborne allergen like but allergies, other food allergies are via ingestation so not the same. How arrogant are you to tell me the seriousness of my reaction. If there are enough dogs in the enclosed space or the dander is on someone's clothes, yes, I absolutely do need to leave the vicinity, it's the mass of dogs that obviously increases that likelihood. I can't take antihistamines as they give me asthma. Nothing to do with been outside on the street with an animal. I don't hate dogs at all, there is a beautiful sheep dog, really well trained on our road and he always wants me to chuck his ball as he drops it in front of me, I have resisted in the past and unfortunately due to the saliva have had to take my inhaler straight away.

I grew up with dogs and until 10 years ago had a lovely Lhasa.

Between me and my parents the dogs

  • Could stay home alone NO issues
  • Were never allowed of the sofa or upstairs
  • We’re treated like a pet not a baby
  • were never taken into any building except houses where they were welcome and the vet

I actually like most dogs, but dog owners in recent years have become the most entitled deluded weirdos and I’m not sure what happened to trigger this

Genuinely, why does this make you better, or a better dog owner, than people today?

My dog loves snuggling on the sofa with me and goes upstairs, can be left if I wish and comes out with me a lot where she is welcome. I’m a well adjusted human and she’s a well adjusted, well trained and happy dog.

31% of UK households owned a dog last year. Are you really suggesting that they are all entitled, deluded, weirdos’?

Yet another person throwing around ridiculous statements

Daisybridge · 26/11/2023 19:59

I was out shopping today and we went into card factory - a woman came in with 3 dogs. Sniffing products and customers, I don't want to be sniffed! and I'm sure the dogs would have been happier elsewhere.

sumayyah · 26/11/2023 19:59

I'm a hiker so we come across dogs a lot anyway and I have a child that likes to meet them all (never without asking permission)

My only issue is those who bring reactive dogs because the barking and growling sets off my ears or those who let their dogs wander because I don't share food lol

A well behaved doggo sat under the table you hardly realise they are there so not a problem really

GreekDogRescue · 26/11/2023 19:03

What harm does it do OP.
Live and let live and find another cafe or stay at home.
So many cynophobes on this site.

So many cynophobes - yes and? If we have a legitimate fear of dogs, what is your issue with that?

Stay at home because we are lesser than smelly unhygienic animals?

The world has truly gone mad.

1990thatsme · 26/11/2023 20:01

@Goldenbear your husbands cousins auntie’s hairdresser must be right then, and all the dogs I saw over that two year period were hallucinations 😂

ApolloandDaphne · 25/11/2023 18:52

The more dogs the better. They are mostly better than people imo.

I am sorry that you and others on these kinds of threads do not have more decent people in your lives. I do wonder why though…

Honestly you have to wonder. I wonder if they host christmas dinner for just dogs then? How incredibly sad to rank animals over humans.

dawngreen · 26/11/2023 20:05

We would not dream of crowding into a small cafe with our dog. Too much footfall our dog may get stood on. But we are happy to sit outside on a nice day. If a dog is sat on a lead out of the way I don't see a problem.

SnailBlazer · 26/11/2023 20:05

Ilovelifeverymuch · 25/11/2023 20:32

What a dumb statement.

Agreed. I think many adults lost social skills during the pandemic. So they prefer animals to human company. Less demanding.
