7 dogs in Starbucks today is too much

I turned around and walked out again, don’t get me started on dogs sniffing cups and plates of food whilst sat next to the owners.
What is the solution ?
Can’t dogs be left anymore?
AIBU to think dog separation cannot be so painful that dogs have to go everywhere!

I love dogs but I don't want dogs everywhere I go.

Coralsunset · 26/11/2023 18:20

sollenwir · 26/11/2023 18:17

Why do dogs need to go to work though?

They don’t need to.

Manager introduced policy when lockdown ended, probably because they had their own dog by then.

The dogs prefer the company and get regular walks and attention. Everyone is happy. 😍

Noshowlomo · 26/11/2023 18:22

Probably because dog shite is everywhere, mainly on the pavements where we walk on the school run. I know it’s not the dogs fault but their filthy ignorant owners who don’t clean it up, but that’s why. Shit everywhere !!

faffadoodledo · 26/11/2023 18:22

OP why not talk to cafe management and tell them they're losing your valuable custom? Then seek out a cafe which excludes dogs. Money talks, I think.
Ultimately, it's the choice of the cafe owner though, and they're obviously making a business choice.

faffadoodledo · 26/11/2023 18:23

Pointless just coming on here and moaning!

I just find it ridiculous that people now take dogs into work places.

Shittyflute · 26/11/2023 18:25

It's getting a bit tedious being called a 'dog hater' for preferring not to eat and drink around them. I don't hate dogs. I like some dogs. I absolutely love some dogs. Some dogs seriously get on my nerves. But I don't hate them. It's easier and lazier to tar everyone with the same brush and see us all as one homogeneous mass of angry dog haters. Some posters on here do sound as though they hate dogs, but most don't. And there's a significant number of dog owners saying that they don't/wouldn't take their pets into cafes for various reasons.

Bolloxforsure · 26/11/2023 18:02

The anti dog brigade seem so angry. I wonder if getting a dog would make them happier.

@Bolloxforsure

having to pick up stinking dog shite and having dog hair all over my house and clothes would make me distinctly unhappier lol

Moll2020 · 26/11/2023 18:29

I didn’t even know dogs were allowed in Starbucks!

DodoNest · 26/11/2023 18:30

sollenwir · 26/11/2023 18:14

I've not started any petitions either, so not really sure what you're on about. Also bananas and dogs aren't really in the same category.

It's ok not to like dogs.

I agree it's ok to not like dogs. People can dislike whatever they want.

I don't think it's ok to impose your dislikes on other people. For instance telling people with dogs not to visit dog friendly places.

Where do you fall on this?

LuckySantangelo35 · 26/11/2023 18:31

Taking dogs to work is silly. Scary direction we’re heading…

can you imagine if everyone did it

like a teacher. And there was a child who was allergic to dogs. Should that child sacrifice their right to an education for the teachers right to have their dog present and the dogs right to be there?!

Don't be ridiculous. That would never happen.

PrueRamsay · 26/11/2023 18:34

@LuckySantangelo35 I hate to break it to you, but most of the primary schools near me have school dogs.

Some of them are simply dogs that belong to the HT. 😂

pollymere · 26/11/2023 18:37

Sorry to say that unless it's a large pub with lots of different areas, I don't want to eat or drink where there are dogs (other than trained service dogs) either. My child has on more than one occasion had a dog poo right next to them. I get sick of telling dogs to not jump up on me because their owners dismiss it with a "they get so excited to meet people".

I'm not a dog-hater. I'm a hater of people who have dogs with no understanding of how to train then properly. Service dogs know how to behave because they are thoroughly trained to be.

SisterhoodNotCisterhood · 26/11/2023 18:38

I love dogs but my poor husband (who also loves dogs) can't go many places designed for humans anymore without struggling to breathe. It used to be people with a lot of dog hair and dander on them that made his chest bad but now it's the dogs themselves everywhere.
Allergies are awful and for some, life threatening. You used to be safe in the majority of food places but not now. The list of dog free places is shrinking. I sympathise with what you're saying OP.

Boymama1997 · 26/11/2023 18:38

Not everyone appreciates stinking, dirty dogs sniffing and licks around their coffee and food and dishware and cutlery. They lick their own hoops for goodness sake. Dogs have no business being around food or drink.

Marwoodsbigbreak · 26/11/2023 18:40

My children attended a primary where a child with a support dog attended.

A parent who wanted her child to start but said her child was allergic to dogs was told she would have to consider other options.

Competing disabilities, not choosing dogs over children.

She decided her child wasn’t that allergic after all and he attended with no problem, despite choosing frequent proximity to said service dog!!!

LastTrainEast · 26/11/2023 18:40

"It's fine for you to dislike dogs but not to try and impose those dislikes on the general population and alter everyone else's behaviour because of them"

That's exactly what you should do. That kind of thing is the reason there is a byelaw making spitting in the street an offence and why people don't shit beside the road.

Societies change gradually and what seemed acceptable once is now considered disgusting.

lostonmars · 25/11/2023 21:06

Try learning English before trying to insult me, that's embarrassing.

So much hatred. Hatred for dogs and for people. I pity you.

By all means people who don't like dogs in cafes can start a petition or write to their MP etc. and try to get the law changed. If they do I'll keep my dog at home. Until then, I'm taking my dog to dog friendly places and not changing my behaviour because of people's random dislikes.

Redty10 · 26/11/2023 18:44

Our favourite place as it is so dog friendly 😀

No, just for you and your smelly animals.

Boymama1997 · 26/11/2023 18:45

I have a dog, I love my dog. But I’m not ignorant to the fact dogs as animals are absolutely filthy..
they lick their own (and other dogs) bums and other regions, will happily munch on their own feces, if your walking one and it comes across fox droppings they’ll instinctively roll in it. By nature they are not hygienic creatures.
If not kept on a tight training schedule they can be disruptive in so many ways, they don’t understand personal space, they will jump at you, whinge, bark, howl etc.

we went out for a Sunday dinner and were seated next to a family with a dog. It kept trumping and stank. Eventually it squatted and did its business on the floor right next to my bag as it had an upset stomach.

With the exception of outdoor areas they shouldn’t be allowed in pubs, cafes etc.

If people didn’t do that we’d have about a quarter of the number of threads. 😄

Fizbosshoes · 26/11/2023 18:52

Last year we met some friends in a village pub, it was a half way point between both sets of people (about 20-30 min drive) and it had been recommended.
There was at least 1 if not 2 dogs when we arrived, it wasn't an issue. But part way through the meal, more dogs came in and most of the dogs seemed to go berserk barking and pulling. It was chaos, we couldn't hear ourselves speak! We couldn't exactly leave midway though the meal but it wasn't that enjoyable with multiple dogs barking
