7 dogs in Starbucks today is too much

I turned around and walked out again, don’t get me started on dogs sniffing cups and plates of food whilst sat next to the owners.
What is the solution ?
Can’t dogs be left anymore?
AIBU to think dog separation cannot be so painful that dogs have to go everywhere!

Wait for it to cool down?

Noshowlomo · 26/11/2023 18:11

I won’t have the time to wait for a pile of turd to cool down. And what if it’s runny? How is it entirely scooped from the pavement then?

Ellejay67 · 26/11/2023 18:12

Yet your cats shit in everyone else's gardens? Thankfully your son seems to have better ideas than you!

Frequency · 26/11/2023 18:12

@sollenwir people, generally. I do not like socialising at the best of times and do not like being forced to socialise which is why I don't tend to take my dog to pubs or cafes. People talk to you when you have a dog.

DD takes her chihuahuas places and I, when I am feeling up to it, take them to public places to train and socialise them for her but it is a lot easier to hide a couple of chihuahuas under a table than it is a rottweiler.

It's not unreasonable to dislike dogs nor it is unreasonable to dislike children or people who hate dogs.

What is unreasonable is to expect businesses to reduce their profit margins to cater to a minority of people or to expect dog owners to stop going to these places when the businesses are deliberately targeting them.

How do some of you dog lovers cope? Like when you go out to work? Or to a wedding? Or a hen do? Or cocktail bar? Places where you absolutely cannot bring your dog?! Genuinely curious!!

I’m allowed to take my dog to work!!

Rarely attend weddings as they bore me, but my local church allows dogs and has done for many years.

Of course I go out without my dog sometimes, but why do that when I don’t have to? I love him.

Ellejay67 · 26/11/2023 18:13

Why?

backtowinter · 26/11/2023 18:14

Ellejay67 · 26/11/2023 18:09

Your behaviour is equally as entitled. Drink elsewhere or drink your coffee at home. Plenty of cafes and coffee shops.

The point made by several posters is that there are really not plenty of alternatives

NortieTortie · 26/11/2023 18:14

Yanbu, I despise dog-friendly cafes, particularly those that don't advertise it!! I have facial scarring from a childhood dog attack and would 100% never choose to sit down in one. They also fkin stink and I don't want to consume food around a crusty-eyed dog that won't stop licking its paw 🤢

sollenwir · 26/11/2023 18:14

DodoNest · 26/11/2023 18:09

It's fine for you to dislike dogs but not to try and impose those dislikes on the general population and alter everyone else's behaviour because of them. I don't like bananas but I haven't started a petition to ban them in all cafes.

I've not started any petitions either, so not really sure what you're on about. Also bananas and dogs aren't really in the same category.

It's ok not to like dogs.

Noshowlomo · 26/11/2023 18:15

@Ellejay67 assuming it’s all in the litter tray by the amount of times we clean it 🤮 I hate it. I hate anything turd related. One thing my cats don’t do is rub their turdy bums or dirty feet on chairs where others will sit or people will eat in public cafes. Can you imagine if they did? Now THAT would be rank.

PetuniaT · 26/11/2023 18:15

What are you doing giving Starbucks your business?

DelightfullyDotty · 26/11/2023 18:15

Offcom · 25/11/2023 19:32

Omg I had no idea you could take dogs in Starbucks, thanks so much for letting us know!

Yes thanks OP. Off to Google which cafes and shops allow dogs!

I mean, it’s a pain in the bottom trying to look around a shop with two excited little dogs, but having to walk past shops/cafes on the morning dog walk, only to have to take the dogs home and return alone is not going to happen!

Lisa46 · 26/11/2023 18:15

Love seeing dogs - we don't get many where I live but sometimes when I go to other towns and they are everywhere, I love it. Each to his own.

Screamingabdabz · 26/11/2023 18:15

Ironic really that dog owners denigrate the behaviour of their fellow human beings and seek solace in the company of ‘better behaved’ animals yet many of them are the epitome of selfishness and lacking in empathy. This thread demonstrates that when they happily compare dogs to children. Shameful. Quite frankly I don’t want to be around these entitled nutjobs any more than I do their dogs.

agonyau · 26/11/2023 18:16

There are plenty of places for non dog lovers to go that don’t welcome dogs, whereas dog-friendly places are fewer but are, thankfully, growing in numbers. I sometimes go for long walks with a friend & our dogs followed by refreshments in a choice of a few eateries on walk back. This makes for a more social outing for all of us, we would otherwise have to go straight home afterwards. This is how it has always been in rural pubs which we’ve experienced on holiday, I’m so glad here in London that the hospitality industry is finally catching up with the country 👍🏻

Why do dogs need to go to work though?

Anon39 · 26/11/2023 18:17

I whole heartedly agree with you, I know we are a nation of dog lovers but my son is seriously allergic to animals and if I had a £1 for everytime someone said “oh mines hypoallergenic” well I could afford a private island!

my son is allergic to animal dander (which every fur type animal has) and animal saliva and it’s not just a case of hives he has swelling eyes and has once been hospitalised with breathing SATS of 93% because his airways was swelling up.

if I see any animal in a food establishment I simply vote with my feet and walk away because no matter how much medication my son has (he takes it daily as I appreciate animals exist) I do not want him to be put at risk but it seems like every establishment or air bnb is now “dog friendly” and some aren’t cleaned thoroughly enough - we went to York and we had to find a hospital in the middle of no where because the previous guests had brought their pet and the apartment wasn’t sterilised afterwards.
im with you OP too many establishments allow pets.

Ellejay67 · 26/11/2023 18:17

What's the difference with a service dog?

The point made by several posters is that there are really not plenty of alternatives

I pointed it out earlier in the thread but if a need has been identified someone really ought to think about setting up their own business to cater to this need.

There are threads every other day about dogs being allowed in places and extremely divisive threads, whereby those who dislike dogs in public don't have any where to go that isn't dog friendly.

If there are so many people who want a dog free experience, surely it'd be booming business to cater to that need.

I suspect though that being dog friendly strongly gives an advantage in the market so it's more profitable to be dog accomodating.

More and more folk are reporting that your first sentence doesn't ring true in many situations.

Ellejay67 · 26/11/2023 18:18

Yes it would be but dogs don't do that either.

Hilsberry · 26/11/2023 18:19

Unless it’s a guide dog or therapy dog who is trained to meet the needs of the individual then all other dogs should not be in places where food is served.

justaboutdonenow · 26/11/2023 18:19

One thing that stands out on every one of these threads is the almost obsessive preoccupation with anuses & faeces that dog haters seem to have.

Weird flex IMO.

My dog sleeps in the kitchen at home
