7 dogs in Starbucks today is too much

I turned around and walked out again, don’t get me started on dogs sniffing cups and plates of food whilst sat next to the owners.
What is the solution ?
Can’t dogs be left anymore?
AIBU to think dog separation cannot be so painful that dogs have to go everywhere!

If I saw 7 young children in a cafè, I'd turn around. And I like children. I am also fine with dogs in cafès - people out walking a dog may also want to stop for a coffee, so some businesses cater for them.
I would also leave if I saw 7 dogs. That's a lot of potential chaos.

Bananagirl23 · 26/11/2023 17:55

I agree, the comparison between children and dogs is pretty distasteful. There are particularly disgusting habits some dogs have which children would never do because they are humans

Thistlewoman · 26/11/2023 17:41

Tbh I'd rather have 7 dogs in s cafe than 7 screaming/badly behaved children. There. Said it. The best thing cafes/coffee shops should do is have dog friendly AND dog free zones. Then everyone is catered for.

And I’d rather see 7 snakes in a cafe than 6 dog eg. But humans trump let’s and kids are humans

I’m yet to see a child drag it’s shitty arse along the carpet in a pub.

@TrishIsMySpiritAnimal

I am totally cool with you not speaking to me in cafes: I don't think we would have much in common. My dog wouldn't approach you and would be asleep under a table.

You are allowed to dislike dogs, be allergic to them or be afraid of them, but I am allowed to absolutely adore them - which I do unrepentantly. There are spaces dogs are allowed and where they are banned. I do not take my dog into any banned spaces but absolutely love seeing them in cafes, bars and restaurants - it improves the experience for me. I am not sure why somebody disliking dogs trumps my love of dogs.

I am hugely allergic to eggs. Even in cafes that serve fried eggs as even the ambient egg will make me react. I do not voice discord that people should not be eating eggs if they enjoy them whilst I am in a restaurant - I simply alter my own behaviour.

Heigh ho, each to there own...

Noshowlomo · 26/11/2023 17:59

Dogs stink, dog owners houses stink, dog sh*t all over the pavement stinks, dog slobber stinks. Pets that should be banned, including cats (I have 2)

Meh

I don’t dislike dogs.

I dislike entitled dog owners - this group is on the increase.

Responsible dog owners and well behaved dogs I’ll take all day! But I just don’t think animals belong where humans eat

The egg issue is not comparable as it’s not an airborne allergy presumably so you can avoid it if the cafe caters for allergies which most do

Stop being sensible @Frequency, the dog haters refuse to accept the reality that dogs are everywhere now and if some posters really can’t cope, there will be places they will exclude themselves from.

Not wanting dogs everywhere we go doesn't make us dog haters though.

It's perfectly reasonable not to like dogs.

I actually do like (most) dogs and understand the benefits of having dog, having been an owner myself. But I dislike dogs in human spaces.

It’s a shame as in my little Dales town cafe owners can’t afford to turn dogs away, the trade is booming so it’s a case of ‘tough shot’ for people like me.

Bolloxforsure · 26/11/2023 18:02

The anti dog brigade seem so angry. I wonder if getting a dog would make them happier.

I don't mind them but I don't seek them out either.

I just think it's also ok if someone doesn't like them.

Tooshytoshine · 26/11/2023 18:04

@TrishIsMySpiritAnimal

The egg allergy is airborne to an extent. I couldn't eat in a greasy spoon cafe without having a reaction similar to a common dog allergy. But that's life.

Thistlewoman · 26/11/2023 18:05

Oh bore off. Segregated areas is the way to go-café owners can then see who uses the areas most and adjust the available seating in each area accordingly. Several cafes have done that here locally and it works great. And believe it or not I dont think all children, no matter how badly behaved 'trump' a dog when I'm out for a coffee!

Anti dog brigade?

Do you not have any dislikes at all?
Do we then label you the 'anti-whatever the dislike is-brigade', or do we accept that different likes and dislikes are part of life?

It's ok to not enjoy the company of dogs. It doesn't have to be justified in any way. It's an acceptable choice.

Cosyblankets · 26/11/2023 18:06

LuckySantangelo35 · 26/11/2023 17:46

How do some of you dog lovers cope? Like when you go out to work? Or to a wedding? Or a hen do? Or cocktail bar? Places where you absolutely cannot bring your dog?! Genuinely curious!!

Dog stays at home.
But when i go to a cafe with the dog I'm usually on a long dog walk.
Be a bit pointless without the dog. What with it being a dog walk

Fontofallknowledge23 · 26/11/2023 18:07

I have a dog but if I did take her to that environment she would be under the table and you wouldn’t hear a sound. Some people treat their dogs like they are humans and do so little training.

LadyGrinningSoul85 · 26/11/2023 18:07

You'll get the dog obsessives on here telling you yabu, but you're not.
Dogs are vile and I don't want them anywhere near me, especially whilst I'm eating food.

Not everyone loves a stinky dog, and don't all start with the "I pRefER thEm To KiDs" like they're the same thing, because as much as people like to think of them as their babies, they're not.

Bolloxforsure · 26/11/2023 18:07

Another thread on here at the moment looking for shops that allow dogs

For Christmas shopping

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad

Ellejay67 · 26/11/2023 18:09

Your behaviour is equally as entitled. Drink elsewhere or drink your coffee at home. Plenty of cafes and coffee shops.

Segregated areas is a reasonable compromise for both groups, if there is enough space. In smaller spaces it's not always practical to allow dogs in IMHO (not enough space, gets smellier etc).
Humans always do trump animals though.

It's fine for you to dislike dogs but not to try and impose those dislikes on the general population and alter everyone else's behaviour because of them. I don't like bananas but I haven't started a petition to ban them in all cafes.

Noshowlomo · 26/11/2023 18:10

@Bolloxforsure my son really wants a dog. Our cats are 11 and he thinks when they die we’re getting a dog. I would rather chop of my leg with a fork than have to pick up hot shit on a lovely walk. I don’t know how I’m going to put him off when the cats do go.
