7 dogs in Starbucks today is too much

I turned around and walked out again, don’t get me started on dogs sniffing cups and plates of food whilst sat next to the owners.
What is the solution ?
Can’t dogs be left anymore?
AIBU to think dog separation cannot be so painful that dogs have to go everywhere!

Where I grew up dogs lived outdoors and certainly were not taken into areas where people eat. It’s disgusting.

Developed society cares about it members - benefits for disabled, health and safety standards, marking allergens in food and restaurants, accessible toilets and parking places.

It is weird how dog ownership makes people forgot about the basic principles, and turned them this selfish.

I'd agree it was selfish if we were discussing preventing people from accessing essential services but we are talking about some cafes, pubs, and shops allowing dogs.

It's not selfish. It's business. The bottom line is always profit. A cafe does not have to pander to everyone. They will always cater to the majority and it appears the majority either like dogs or do not care either way.

I'm allergic to cats but I don't sit and whine that I can't eat at the cat cafe. I go to a cafe without cats or I eat at home. I don't like metal music but I don't huff and puff that the local pubs hold a "metal night" every Tuesday.

If you don't like dogs don't eat at dog-friendly pubs. It won't kill you. And if every single cafe in your area serves dogs, well, that's unfortunate but it still won't kill you.

What is actually weird, is how many dog hating threads appear on Mumsnet. I’m beginning to think that there are hairy types, that live under bridges posting. Who would have thought it? 🙄

Our dogs have always had baskets in our kitchen. Nothing disgusting has ever happened.

Another anti dog thread is too much.

Better 7 dogs than 7 toddlers. Sick and tired of coffee shops tuned into crèches.

How is a dog sitting on the floor of a cafe unhygienic, you have more germs on your shoes.

Hairy types that live under the bridges? WTF?

People can say similar about kids in public places too

They do. Both are correct.

Omg I had no idea you could take dogs in Starbucks, thanks so much for letting us know!

They even do a Doggychino!

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 26/11/2023 04:29

Tbf my main issue is with so many is that I’m partially sighted and seven is just seven trip hazards for me.

Harrysarseinthedogbowl · 26/11/2023 04:34

The only place dogs should be in an eating establishment is on the menu.

ChillysWaterBottle · 26/11/2023 05:03

Predictably the emotionally immature unhinged twats are out comparing dogs to children. I wonder which other vulnerable members of society they'd be happy to compare to animals.

I don't mind quiet, well behaved dogs in certain cafes, it depends on the vibe of the place. I was in a park cafe with a friend and my dog today. Its explicitly dog-friendly and he just flopped under the table. I live in a big city though so I wouldn't take him into most of the cafes in the city centre. They aren't the right place for dogs imo.

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 26/11/2023 05:10

My friend (waves if she’s on here) is allergic to dander and can get hay fever like symptoms with a dog around or having been there recently to wheezy if too many dogs are in a coffee shop etc. In our younger years this was never a real issue but society has definitely changed and she’s more limited in where she can confidently go now.

Actually, my sister has therapy ponies (American miniature horses - they’re just a bit larger than a Retriever) and they go all sorts of places….shops, coffee shops, railway stations…. It’s all part of their training so that they can be taken indoors to care homes, hospitals and schools and take it (literally) in their stride. If you’re discombobulated by a dog or two in Starbucks, I’d love to see how you’d deal with being up close and personal to one of them Grin

Miniature horses are so cute.

I guess that's just not the "win" you thought it was.......😆

meatbaseddessert · 26/11/2023 05:37

I'd much prefer dogs in cafes than children. If you have found a dog biased cafe then find one with more kids in. Believe me they exist.

Strangely, different people like different things. I'll take the dog places you can take the kiddie places. Harmony.

How about children? Surely they are as well?

Duckingella · 26/11/2023 05:51

I was once in a little cafe and someone's dog decided it would rather sit with my family than it's owners which was abit weird but it was a well behaved little dog.

However I think people would take exception to me taking my huge Rottweiler into a cafe and doing that;I wouldn't because he's a greedy git who would definitely be trying to steal people's food.

I did a rather handsome GSD in my local Starbucks a few weeks ago but his owner sensibly sat outside and only brought him in to order and collect his coffee.

Pretty much but they tend to be sticking out from the side of tables

Whiteday · 26/11/2023 06:17

@Tomorrowillbeachicken no they're very often running round and unpredictable.

Tbf I run them over too but I feel more sympathy with the dogs

heartsinvisiblefury · 26/11/2023 06:40

One of the many advantages of sitting next to a dog in a cafe is that they don't watch stuff on their phones without headphones on. I'd take a slobbering dog over that any day.
