7 dogs in Starbucks today is too much

I turned around and walked out again, don’t get me started on dogs sniffing cups and plates of food whilst sat next to the owners.
What is the solution ?
Can’t dogs be left anymore?
AIBU to think dog separation cannot be so painful that dogs have to go everywhere!

@Soontobe60 The businesses who allow dogs must believe it generates more profit or they wouldn't allow it so it seems that the people who go there because dogs are allowed and the people who don't care either way outnumber those who don't go there because dogs are allowed.

Like I said no one has a right to frequent an establishment. I like drinking late at night but hate loud music. I wouldn't dream of going to a nightclub and demanding they turn the music down. I go elsewhere instead.

Why would I do that? It's not me that has the problem 🙃

You imply you would prefer to be in a cafe surrounded by dogs than humans. As that doesn't exist, maybe you should drink your coffee at home with your dog and avoid the humans.

Some dog lovers are odd. I like dogs but I also like other animal species as well as humans.

I wasn't the original poster. I was just saying why would I stay home instead of going out and about with my dog to dog friendly places as people on here seem to be suggesting I do.

I just can’t imagine being that miserable that seeing a dog in a cafe would upset me so much. I love dogs and would happily take my dog to Starbucks. If it keeps the miserable out, even better.

They may not be miserable. They may simply be allergic, or have a fear of dogs. The multiple assumptions on these threads that anyone who objects to dogs in cafes is ‘a miserable dog-hater’ is quite disturbing in its narrow-minded ferocity.

Maybe crossed wires Dodo
This thread is 50/50
50% seem to think it's perfectly acceptable that dogs be allowed in eateries and cannot fathom why the other half of the population think its disgusting.
We are unlikely to agree.

Of course there is the additional element of those dog owners that treat their dogs like children. I suspect these are the ones who can't possibly leave their dogs home.
This is why I wouldn't have one. I do agree that dogs are needy. Pack animals and need company. I work and don't have time to give to a dog. But it's a fairly recent thing where people have become obsessed with their dogs. I understand loving them.
But, they are animals. Not children. And I don't believe they should be allowed in spaces where people are eating.
At best, maybe businesses could designate an area for dogs and their humans. A separate room

The narrow-minded assumption that dogs are dirty, smelly or unhygienic is just as bad. In my experience dogs that are taken into pubs and cafes are well behaved and unobtrusive.

I was in Starbucks last week and there was a dog making a scene, talk about ruining the atmosphere of a quiet coffee!! Not everyone likes dogs, I found it quite disrespectful as I suffer from allergies and have been attacked by two dogs in the past whilst minding my own business. Message me to owners, leave your dogs at home whilst having a 10 minute coffee. 🙄

Sholkedabemus · 26/11/2023 00:26

I’ve lived with dogs all my life. Our dogs have always had a basket in our kitchen. My sister and I grew up with dogs, I raised three children with dogs, my grandchildren now come and visit. None of us has ever come to any harm, sharing our home with our dogs. For this reason, I don’t get why dogs shouldn’t be allowed where food is served. Nothing bad happens.

How is a dog owner to know about your allergies and past bad experience? What has it got to do with them? You need to manage your own anxieties and allergies. They are not the responsibility of other people, especially people who are doing nothing wrong by having their dogs with them.

DyslexicPoster · 26/11/2023 00:35

There are places that dont allow dogs inside cafes. My favourite cafe only allows them outside. I don't like the barking in the really dog friendly places. I had a dog so don't mind them but constant barking up close pisses me off. Luckily my town is nothing but charity shops, cafes and Turkish barbers so there plenty that don't have dogs. My friends dogs are very nicely behaved when we go out walking then go for food for some balance but I do see a lot of owner laughing off when their dog lunges at at another dog causing it to bark. Lots of oh he just wants to play and well mine doesn't like it. The dog friendly cafe is a bit insane. I can't see how anyone except those with over energetic lunging dogs enjoys it. It's always very busy so they clearly do enjoy the barking and nipping at each other.

EsmeT · 26/11/2023 00:36

@XenoBitch having allergies doesn't work like that. Also, how can I manage the fear of dogs when I have been bitten by one as a kid, and on another occasion was attacked at a park with my partner at the time. He was rushed to hospital, so yeah you bet I hate dogs.

Still not other people's problem.

@XenoBitch not trying to cause any offence, it's just a matter of opinion. Agree to disagree 😊

How about... oh, umm, hygiene?

This thread is batshit.

vodkaredbullgirl · 26/11/2023 00:44

Threads like this are always bat shit crazy 🤣

headstone · 26/11/2023 00:51

The dogs aren’t the problem, the coffee is shit.

MsBea · 26/11/2023 00:52

I cannot abide it. I don't go to any eaterie where dogs are welcome. So unsanitary. Absolutely sick of dogs being everywhere.

Shittyflute · 26/11/2023 00:58

Sholkedabemus · 25/11/2023 23:47

Humans aren’t that great. We’re killing the planet, we have wars, some humans are paedophiles/murderers/robbers etc.

Dogs work for humans tirelessly helping to stop humans from drug smuggling and blowing each other up. They work as assistance dogs, guide dogs, police dogs, army dogs, the list goes on.

Those dogs are trained by human beings. If it’s ever the other way round, you might have something😆

Hygiene? We shower, we wash our hands, we clean our house, we keep our dog clean.

oh umm, what’s your point about hygiene?

The more dogs the better. They are mostly better than people imo.

Nope.

Yes and badly behaved dogs are the fault of humans. It all comes back to humans.

Sushilover14 · 26/11/2023 01:14

Would much rather quiet dogs than shrieking toddlers/wailing babies, personally.

ClearConfusion · 26/11/2023 01:54

WillowCraft · 25/11/2023 18:51

No dogs in places where food is sold should be the rule. Unless sitting outside

So a disabled person with a service dog can only sit outside in the cold and rain? Really?

ZiriForGood · 26/11/2023 02:24

XenoBitch · 26/11/2023 00:37

Still not other people's problem.

Developed society cares about it members - benefits for disabled, health and safety standards, marking allergens in food and restaurants, accessible toilets and parking places.

It is weird how dog ownership makes people forgot about the basic principles, and turned them this selfish.
