I was walking through town with a friend looking for a bite to eat. We walked past a charity that provide hot meals and drinks for the homeless/vulnerable, and there was a large crowd of people waiting to receive their meal.
My friend joked 'This is where we're eating tonight.'
I was quite disgusted, and told her 'You're very lucky to not be in that position.' she didn't say anything and changed the subject.
I'm sure it was just a case of speaking without thinking, but I was quite disappointed tbh.

Agree @PippyLongTits

@PippyLongTits

Maybe.

Clearly the best option is to not let anyone overhear anything.
The words 'grateful and appreciate' isn't at all 'we're not the same as these poor people'.

It's well-intentioned but if you're homeless hearing that it's a bit depressing. More so than someone making a joke tbh

Definitely don't let them overhear at all

It was a joke that clearly didn't land well.

Being so morally outraged is a big over-reaction.

BitchAssMosquitoe · 25/11/2023 11:24

I wouldn’t be impressed by that joke but I’d let it slide all the same. They probably didn’t mean anything by it.

You have over reacted.
