To ask if everyone on Mumsnet is gorgeous?

Whenever someone shares a photo, even a partial one, it’s obvious they are stunning! Is it just me who isn’t!?

I see a lot of stunners here. Or at least v photogenic.
I am about average. Not photogenic but wouldn't scare children either.

I also know I am gorgeous so thought I would share my latest selfie so everyone can appreciate my gorgeousnessness...

I don't go along with all the "you're gorgeous" or "stunning" especially on Facebook where they're nearly always heavily filtered. People accepting umpteen compliments when the filter makes them practically unrecognisable sort of annoys me.

Surely people know they aren't seeing the real person.

I can do myself up? Im also at my lowest weight since my early twenties so have actual cheekbones (although imagine pregnancy will put pay to that, thanks again baby), but am I stunning? Nah, Im alright, passable, wouldnt expect any one to be ashamed of me, but wouldnt expect to be a trophy either. Also think to be truly beautiful it should be inside and out, and my insides try but sometimes they are only human.

I don't think they've all been gorgeous, but think about it if you're going to post a photo somewhere like this you're probably going to make sure it's a good one. I would. Though I wouldn't post because of privacy issues.

I’ve just taken a photo of my left knee and from that alone I can confirm I’m a right stunner.

I scrub up ok for a fat lass but I need a bit of a run up in terms of foundation garments and concealer.

I was a solid 7/10 when I was younger and scrubbed up, teetering towards an 8. I didn’t realise it though, I was always stressed about my weight and body shape. And now I’m an early fifties menopausal barrel with the ubiquitous middle aged blonde layered bob and no one looks at me anymore. But the funny thing is, I am way more confident now than I was then.

I agree with @FloatingLog There is this tendency on here for a woman to post a photo of themselves, and whilst they are not awful looking (as I said very few people are,) they are just fairly standard and normal. Yet lots of posters come on here and shower them with compliments, tell them they look like a film star, they have gorgeous skin/lips/eyes/teeth etc etc etc. And they are soooo lucky to look like this, and to not be a fat, hideously ugly troll, with beady eyes, and frizzy hair - like they are themselves (their words.)

I find the self deprecating on here by some posters a bit tiresome to be honest, and the love-bombing and 'ermagerrd, U R gawjuss' comments aimed at women who post their photo really cringeworthy.

As I said, the posters are almost always just ordinary women, and the posters showering them with masses of compliments (who claim to be ugly boglins) are probably just normal too, and nowhere near what they claim to be.

It's very strange, the self deprecating some posters on here do. Like 'am I the only one is is hideously ugly? says one poster..., Cue a bunch of other posters saying 'oh I am fugly as sin too,' whilst going gaga over ordinary looking posters who pop their photo on here.

I just can't work it out. Why people do this on here.

Not me, @KimberleyClark - I am very overweight, with a face like an amiable potato. I have nice hands, though.

I'm guessing it's to be nice and to make the poster who posted the pic feel good or better about themselves. I don't see anything wrong with that. Also, most people are less judgmental about others than they are about themselves and most people try to focus on the good in others. We are our own worst critics and sometimes it helps when someone else points out your good points, which otherwise get lost in all.your self loathing.

not sure about the self deprecation thing. I guess most of have been brought up to not brag especially about our appearance and we are also always told that caring about your appearance is shallow. So maybe people make self deprecating statements because they think it's polite and because openly stating that you look good and know it might makeyou sound shallow or dishonest.

...Do you really think all this? We can't be positive or nice or complimentary about ourselves, without worrying about coming across as dishonest or shallow?

Good grief! How depressing ... It's only women that think like this too. Men have no hesitation in blowing their own trumpet. How depressing that even in 2023, many women still think like this. 'I daren't say I think I am attractive or pretty or I will called a liar, or conceited?'

It's only the ones who think they are gorgeous who post the pictures.

I'm quite ugly but that's just being truthful, not being self depreciating. There's nothing bad (in a moral sense) about being ugly, it's like being short or tall or your hair colour. It just is.

Now for me, I'm also ugly inside and have a bad personality. I could probably change this but - nah.

No I’ve seen very normal photos on here. Plus even if you’re fat you can still have a lovely face which seems to get forgotten on MNs.
