Laurence Fox libel trial

newnamethanks · 22/11/2023 18:07

Laurence Fox has been sued for libel by two people he described as paedophiles in a twitter spat. They described LF as racist. Trial began today, suing and counter-suing. Mr Fox arrived with his - written thus (daily mail) in single quotes - 'girlfriend'. Odd description.

Thank you for the link. That Marina Hyde article makes an important point:

Whatever is going on here, it seems pretty clear that Laurence Fox is just one of the idiot faces of it. Who is this backroom man, lavishly funding one dickhead’s extended breakdown as part of a campaign to buy his way to political and cultural influence, at the same time as bleating publicly about the state of our democracy? Why should [Jeremy] Hosking prefer to lead from behind while his paid fool or fools create busywork or diversions?

Laurence Fox has lost his ‘good name’: what now for the sad clown of the culture wars circus? | Marina Hyde

A high court ruling marks the climax of Fox’s comic unravelling. Now let’s focus on the figures who pull his strings, says Guardian columnist Marina Hyde

Fox is simply a Gob for sale, a man with no principles at all. He has said so himself. Why is Mr Hoskyns so shy I wonder? Is he still paying for the repellent Andrew Bridgen as well? I understand Mr Hoskyns' company holds a number of government contracts, perhaps he prefers to be under the radar, he was singularly unimpressive when he opened his mouth to opine about Diane Abbott. Odd how race seems to be at the forefront of both of their minds. I wonder why that is.

Good. I hope he wins.

If you don't understand why making unsubstantiated allegations of paedophilia is not quite cricket, then nothing anyone else can say is likely to make much impression.

RafaistheKingofClay · 02/05/2024 15:39

good. He’s been vile to her this week.

‘Good Morning Britain star Narinder Kaur has declared 'this is now a police matter' following Laurence Fox's decision to share an indecent image of her online without her consent.’

https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/tv-star-narinder-kaur-says-32718191

Good lord. What a grotesque specimen.

He's also unravelling fast. He will no doubt claim victim status and claim 'they' are persecuting him when he winds up in chokey.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 02/05/2024 16:34

He wants martyrdom so he and his silly fanbase can claim they’re an oppressed group, desperately attempting to justify the most repellent behaviour towards others, as they stamp their horrid little feet and engage in their collective DARVO.

SocksAndTheCity · 02/05/2024 17:13

Christ, what a disgusting waste of space he is.

I just got back from the polling station and while he's obviously not on the Mayor ballot, he's still clinging on to the London Assembly one. I hope the result is suitably pitiful.

newnamethanks · 02/05/2024 20:27

Repellent misogynist, the guy is a walking appendage. He should cover himself up. And maybe see a doctor.

His excuse for the upskirting thing is "I didn't make her leave her pants off" or words to that effect. I mean, you expect to hear that sort of nonsense from an immature 8 year old, not a grown man. He presumably thinks it would be absolutely fine, say, to post pictures of Princess Diana dying because he didn't make her leave her seatbelt off; or pictures of someone being raped because he wasn't doing the raping.

Revolting little man.

She didn’t make the photographer take a picture up her skirt. See how that argument works both ways? (obviously directed at LF, not @Anisette)

idreamoftoddlersleepytime · 03/05/2024 15:48

I'm not sure it is upskirting because he didn't take the photo. I think it might be the law against revenge porn that comes into play, because he has procured and published the photo with the intention of humiliating his victim. If the CPS prosecute and he defends, he could find himself in prison for this if found guilty. It's serious and he has a track record of harassing people online in a high profile way (provable by the defamation judgments), so tricky to mitigate against sentencing. If it's in the Crown Court, it can be up to two years in prison.

Elon Musk did it to the poor man who saved those children in the Thai caving incident and it went to court here and Elon Musk won!

SinnerBoy · 03/05/2024 16:00

Elon Musk did it to the poor man who saved those children in the Thai caving incident and it went to court here and Elon Musk won!

It was bizarre, he paid a private investigator to find evidence that he'd married his wife when she was 12 and that he was raping under aged girls, but the court accepted that calling him "Pedo Guy" was normal South African banter!

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/05/2024 16:15

I think Musk also argued that it was a joke that was taken badly and he did remove the post and apologise. Fox has basically stood by his tweet and doubled down whenever possible to ‘make his point’. There’s also a very different standard in the US.

The last defamation trial Fox was given plenty of opportunity to backdown and apologise. He just seems to insist on taking it to the furthest possible point in a trial that he never stands a chance of winning and then having to shell out loads of money.

ManchesterBeatrice · 03/05/2024 19:05

Good god LF is a joke.

Beetlebumz · 03/05/2024 23:34

Can’t believe he posted that photo he gets worse and worse every week. His family need to stage an intervention.

If he loses he should sue them for libel for calling him a racist. The people suing are happy enough to call people unfounded names but get upset when the same is done to them.
He is a racist though it's not as if he even tries to hide it.

I'm not up-to-speed on LF's most recent doings, but it's a puzzle why he's turned out like this. His BIL is Richard Ayoade, and as far as I know, they get on well. There's some think weird going on somewhere.

But where his anger comes from - who knows? His cousins, Emilia and Freddie Fox, seem popular and regular people - but where such a privileged man gets such rage from is a mystery to me. Mind you, I think he was a pain in the backside at Harrow School and was pushing the boundaries even then.

idreamoftoddlersleepytime · 04/05/2024 09:39

It's fine wine and vinegar. Age and adversity either perfects or spoils you. He's a classic example of someone who has spoiled with age.

newnamethanks · 04/05/2024 09:57

There's a quote from LF way back on this thread which goes something like this 'I'm getting a wodge of cash for this game (this is a reference to the £250k pa paid to LF by the funder of Reclaim party). I'd rather be hated and rich than hated and recently fired from Asda'. So that's what happened to him. A regular bundle of cash from the millionaire who wants to shoot Diane Abbott and other black women. I suspect he wouldn't thank anyone for an intervention.

His father had that spell out of acting when he got God, didn't he? Perhaps all his attention was on evangelism rather than his children, though the other children don't seem to have been affected.

Anisette · 04/05/2024 11:24

According to Wikipedia: "Ayoade and his brother-in-law, actor Laurence Fox, engaged in a public vocal feud in 2020, when Fox asked Ayoade to announce his support for him on Twitter after a controversial appearance on Question Time. The episode in question was condemned for allowing Fox on as a guest, in particular for when he told a black woman in the audience that discussing racism was "boring". According to Fox, Ayoade told him that "You have never encountered racism." Fox stated that he had told Ayoade he had, because "he worked in Kenya once" and "racism can be deferential".

newnamethanks · 04/05/2024 16:31

Yes. He's not very bright. There's an excellent interview, with a conspiracist I won't bother to name, by George Monbiot in the Guardian today. I suspect Laurence holds similar views and is also fuelled by financial gain thus doubly rewarded.

To prove he's not very bright, do have a look at the cartoon he's posted on Twatter, begging to be arrested and have his 'freedom denied'. I hope he got fewer votes than Count Binface.

I believe he’s lost his deposit again.
Also he appears to be moving out of London. Which is sad news for somewhere.
