Laurence Fox libel trial

Laurence Fox has been sued for libel by two people he described as paedophiles in a twitter spat. They described LF as racist. Trial began today, suing and counter-suing. Mr Fox arrived with his - written thus (daily mail) in single quotes - 'girlfriend'. Odd description.

Reading some of the things he said during the trial makes me think that his parents should ask for a refund on the money they spent on his education - or maybe they should just wish they'd used contraception.

Self-awareness score? Zero.. Minus zero even.

He says he’s going back to court to appeal. His solicitors must love him.

I'm not sure his, shall we say, 'interpretation' of reality is the same as yours and mine. He's become a figure of utter ridicule. Even now he doesn't seem to have twigged that you can't go around making unsubstantiated accuasations againt people about so serious a crime. As for his rebuttals of their accuastions of racism, he has a digital footprint the size of the Arizona crater which says otherwise and the language of the judge is entertaining in determining that the law does not recognise this accusation as defamatory. No shit.

If he's really reasoning that 'you called me a name so I called you one back, tit for tat' and the semantics really are that straightforward with exactly the same repercussions for each, then he's either a lot less smart than he looks or he's become divorced from the real world.

I doubt it would take much to push him over the edge completely in his current state.

He's doing it already - he's calling the claimants racists on Twitter, presumably because he's claiming that the judges won't define "racist" and therefore you can't be libelled if you are called racist.

I can't be bothered to engage with him, otherwise I'd suggest he sit down with his expensive lawyers, ask them to explain to him what the judgment means, and actually listen to them.

Bit silly of him, really, given that he's about to be ordered to give them LOTS of money which they can use to fund the next libel action against him.

Is someone funding Fox? You'd think he'd be bankrupt by now, the amount of money he's throwing at lawyers and his stupid political ambitions.

I've assumed he's spending Reclaim's money - business expenses? - all in the Name of Freedom. Donors are the usual right wing suspects and if he's spending their money - bearing in mind they haven't filed for 2023 with Companies House - that's good. Hope he bankrupts his nasty Party, it only exists to spread division. Say some more Lozza., cost them every last penny.

I'm pleased he lost. The lawyers must love him. The people I feel sorry for are his kids. I think they are now old enough to realise that their dad is not well thought of. (Im being very polite).
