bothered that another parent copied my childs name

This happened a few years ago when we lived in a remote area.
My child name was very uncommon and unique. I deliberately picked the name because it wasn't common and I didn't want her to share her name with a number of people. I don't want to say what it is because there are very few people in the world with it. As she got older, in assembly, she found out that someone in primary 1 had the same name as her and the parent had obviously heard of and copied her name. Subsequently, there were a number of others with the same name.
AIBU to be annoyed?

Obviously not as younique as you perceive yourself to be. Maybe they chose the name without being influenced by you?

MaggieFS · 22/11/2023 17:28

I bet it's Nevaeh.

Gnomegnomegnome · 22/11/2023 17:28

you need to call the police hun

Iloveacurry · 22/11/2023 17:28

I think you need to tell us the name.

ThePoshUns · 22/11/2023 17:28

Call the name police of they took 'your' name.
A wind up surely?

parksandrecs · 22/11/2023 17:28

Why doesit matter to you that your child shares a name with another child?

Very odd

SM4713 · 22/11/2023 17:29

Subsequently, there were a number of others with the same name.

Clearly a VERY common name now then! 😂

It was a small place where everyone knew everyone, the parent knew of my DDs name and when she eventually had her own child she took it

Have you got it back?

DarkForces · 22/11/2023 17:29

You need to name change Elon

Indeed, my DS is called a name that was quite rare when he was born but is now in the top ten. So nobody at school shares his name but it'll be a different story at work 😁. A friend of mine called her DD Elsa. The following year, Frozen was released.....

I think @CurlewKate was being sarcastic. Grace wasn't uncommon 25 years ago!

Name235 · 22/11/2023 17:30

This has got to be a wind up

sensationalsally · 22/11/2023 17:30

why aren't you delighted to find that someone else liked the name so much they decide to use it too?

QueenCamilla · 22/11/2023 17:31

καλοκαλoκαιρι · 22/11/2023 17:21

this is hilarious!
when i was born (to an incredibly hippy father) i didn't know anyone with my name. By the time my brother was in reception class 5 years later there were multiple kids with my name, these days it’s pretty much shorthand for ‘I am a massive Tory tw@t’ which is unfortunate, but what else are you gonna do but laugh? cop on to urself Op x

Whatever your name is, misspel it worse than any other misspelling you've heard and hyphenate it with May. That will knock you down a notch and you'll be one with the peoples again. Like Kamron-May. See? Works without a fail.

TrishIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/11/2023 17:31

YABU

You don’t own a name.

Is this where we find out the name was something like April as well.

CrimsonPig · 22/11/2023 17:31

Have you logged it with 101?

welcometothnuthouse · 22/11/2023 17:31

How batshit are some people on here? Took a name, really??

TrishIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/11/2023 17:32

This reminds me of the thread where a poster raged because her friend copied her ‘custom piece of jewellery’ and it turns out it was a Pandora bracelet 😂😂😂

Name235 · 22/11/2023 17:33

I'm picturing someone walking round Morrisons with a large handbag shop lifting names off the shelf and hiding them alongside a shoulder of pork and a pack of cheese.

RudsyFarmer · 22/11/2023 17:34

You should have never said it out loud 🤣

GHSP · 22/11/2023 17:34

Is it Balonz?

erikbloodaxe · 22/11/2023 17:35

I can't imagine anyone wanting to call their child mymumsaknob but obviously it appealed to more than just you Op.

She took it so your child is left without a name? Yes I’m being ridiculous and so are you.
My friend named her dd from a name she saw on a gravestone, did she steal from a deceased person?
You need to grow up if you’re a parent.

NuttyGranola · 22/11/2023 17:36

CurlewKate · 22/11/2023 17:17

I chose an incredibly uncommon name for my dd 25 years ago. Grace.

Same here - except it was even less popular when I picked it for my DD 41 years ago! I'm sure that it was already picking up speed by the late 1990s, though perhaps only as a middle name at that point.

housethatbuiltme · 22/11/2023 17:37

Aren't you the star of your own universe?

You where simply on trend love, thats how names work. I fell in love with my kids names AS a kid myself. I didn't know ANYONE with names like that. By the time I had my kids 12-25 years later guess what? lots of other people my age also picked the same names that where 'super rare' when we where young (so thus are not rare now, several in the school).

Its literally not about you. The world doesn't turn for you and no one is 'copying', you simply don't think as uniquely as you think you do and are unfortunately just as stereotypical as everyone else in your life choices.
