A friend recommended it. Have listened a few times. Just seemed to be endless discussions about stopping the small boats. Presumably this is a hard right leaning Station?

GB News stand up for the silent majority. Who, by the way, are actually quite powerful in their numbers.

But how would you know that? 🤔

Because of the way they vote for people and policies the media have told them are toxic?

Lose the friend.

Yes! Dump all those “airheads” who don’t agree with you politically/ideologically. That’s definitely the healthy way to manage such issues and a clear route to being happy and well adjusted. 😊

The crying, shouting, foot stomping, outraged and angry left won't accept any opposing views though, of course.

So, is this powerful "silent majority" going to vote in a far right government at the next election then? Because none of the polling would appear to support that.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Completely agree. Life is way too short to waste your time dealing with idiots and bigots.

(And yes, I know you were trying to be ironic but you seem to have accidentally spoken the truth!)

It’s definitely too short to spend it with obsessive, humourless woke scolds who cannot tolerate any other point of view than their own. See you can reverse it and that’s true also despite you believing you’re “the good ones”.

I wasn’t actually trying to be ironic. I genuinely wonder how it’s possible to be content and have peace and mental well being when you perceive every single person who disagrees with you politically as no more than a hunk of “gammon” who must not be tolerated because they’re not with you in your extremely rigid belief system. I find it quite depressing at times but then I cheer up because I am not like that so don’t have to live in that headspace 😊

Wendyspotatopeeler · 17/11/2023 18:24

It's the new UK version of Fox News. Hosts like Piers Morgan and Katie Hopkins giving "truths".

I wouldn't know if it's possible to be happy and content in that scenario either. Personally, I have no issue with people disagreeing with me, that's normal.

It's specifically the far right that I have an issue with. Some people just aren't worth the time of day.

Deathwillbebutapause · 17/11/2023 18:31

I don't watch any television news. It's all horseshit.

Just observing everyday real life and having real conversations with real people. Normal people aren't interested in any of the woke nonsense.

I think this is one of those things where we see our own experience as normal people and see others as being "in a bubble."

Same here. He was brilliant. Not afraid for calling out stuff that the MSM won't go near.

Be curious to know what the viewing figure trends for GB News are v SkyNews and TalkTV.

BARB figures are available - quite a lot to sift through but they're here.

It's Fox News, but UK version. Basically.

Which is to say, mostly endless right wing commentary on selected bits of news.

GuessItsANameChange · 17/11/2023 18:50

On its face, there isn’t inherently anything wrong with having overtly partisan tv stations. In practice, though, it leads to ever-increasing hyper partisanship, increasing polarization, and a willingness to pander instead of being factual.

Fox News is a really good example. It was, obviously, always an explicitly right-wing channel and more than willing to dabble in pushing little bits of misinformation here and there, but did have some reporters who were willing to hold ‘their’ side to account too.

Then along came Trump, and every reporter who was unwilling to uncritically promote dangerous lies were either forced out or resigned, despite being right wing voters themselves. Even Trump’s biggest defenders on the channel knew he was a liar and a fraud (see, for example, Tucker Carlson’s leaked text
messages) but they recognized (again, explicitly stated in leaked text messages) that their audiences didn’t want the truth, they wanted to have their biases confirmed.

For that reason, I’ll always prefer news sources that at least strive for balance and will watch them instead of sources that aim to promote opinions I agree with.

Your friend is a bigot.

It strikes me as something listened/watched by people who wear football shirts as casual dress.

I loathe GB news and everything it stands for but you're embarrassing yourself with this comment. There are plenty of expensively-dressed bigots out there. Look no further than our own government.

PermanentTemporary · 17/11/2023 18:57

To me the Beeb seems quite right wing most of the time, so I'm going to assume I'd have some kind of cardiac event if I watch GB news, therefore I don't. I do unfortunately catch the odd glimpse on Twitter and it looks like live a turn cartoons, but I assume that's the most clickbaity bits and not most of the output.

TooBigForMyBoots · 17/11/2023 19:00

It's not a News channel.

Anygoodidea · 17/11/2023 19:01

Hard right. Swivel eyed loons.

Not a news channel.

Fantasyanswer · 17/11/2023 19:03

I’ve only seen small bits of it but those bits have not been full of thicksters. It had some interesting people with interesting comments.

I have heard it’s gone more conspiracy theorist route, but I’ve seen so little of it I can’t comment on that

Its not trying to be impartial like the BBC.

I do think some people on here so hate anything ‘right wing’ that they instantly come out with comments like ‘swivel eyed loon’ which makes themselves, ironically, sound like swivel eyed loons.

Fantasyanswer · 17/11/2023 19:08

Ah and ‘bigot’. A word most commonly used by those who have no idea what it means, as they use it in a way that reveals them as the bigot.

They aren't the majority and they're certainly not silent.😆😆😆

TinaYouFatLard · 17/11/2023 19:20

Mumsnetters can look down their nose with superiority and snarf snarf at the hard of thinking in their football shirts but this type of rhetoric chimes with a lot of people. I mean, is it really a “hard right” position to want to stop the boats?

There’s going to be shock and horror again (just like Brexit and the 2019 election) when parties like Reform take a massive leap next election.

TooBigForMyBoots · 17/11/2023 19:23

Did parties like Reform take a massive leap in the 2019 election?Confused I thought their 1 MP was thon fella the Tories sacked for being a conspiracy theorist.

How have they done since? In local /regional elections?
