AIBU to ask your opinion of GB News?

A friend recommended it. Have listened a few times. Just seemed to be endless discussions about stopping the small boats. Presumably this is a hard right leaning Station?

I watch the morning show as it does seem a bit more balanced. The presenters usually have two guests - one from each camp. The rest of the channel is right-wing drivel.

Someone in our house has it on & I was expecting to find it appalling. Some of it is but some of it is much better than I anticipated. Nana Akua, Michelle Dewberry & Andrew Doyle's Free Speech Nation are good. They do have some good debates where people are able to disagree without being hateful. I'm rather astonished to find myself watching it sometimes but I think the Left has become so intolerant in my lifetime.

I like it. To be fair it's more a current affairs discussion channel than a direct news channel, but that's what I like about it.

Free Speech Nation is excellent - hosted by a left wing comic with a panel from a regular cohort of mostly left wing comedians.

I miss Colin Brazier, but I'm getting used to Patrick Christies.

I loathe, despise and detest Nigel Farage as a politician but have to grudgingly acknowledge he's a pretty good presenter having caught his programme a few times. Gah!

Because that's definitely what's happening. Sure. GB News is such a threat to the woke Establishment...

Of course it's a hard-right leaning station. It's broken Ofcom rules on politically biased news reporting many times. It has more than once broadcast 'news' programmes that consist of hard-right Tory MPs interviewing other Tory MPs, and billed them as ordinary news coverage. It employs (primarily) extremely right-wing presenters, such as Laurence Fox and Nigel Farage. Many of its presenters are openly racist, homophobic and misogynistic.

It also propagates dangerous conspiracy theories. There is very, very little actual journalism.

Also, the general quality of the presenting and production is embarrassingly bad, because they have a very low budget and employ quite a lot of presenters who have very, very little experience of fronting live TV.

Same here. He was brilliant. Not afraid for calling out stuff that the MSM won't go near.

Be curious to know what the viewing figure trends for GB News are v SkyNews and TalkTV.

It's a bit of a hodge podge. It's a reaction against the BBC, so presents right wing views, pro Brexit, stop the boats, totally obsessed with Harry and Meghan (I don't like them either, but there's other news!). The presenters aren't very professional, but that has some advantages. As a free speech channel reacting against the 'sound bite' culture, the interviewers don't tend to constantly interrupt the guests. For instance, they invited on a guest who was an asylum seeker who had entered the country illegally to explain why she'd done that, and they just let her tell her story - no interruptions or heckling. I just couldn't imagine one of the more 'respectable' channels just letting someone talk like that without having to control the narrative for the 'hard of thinking' audience that they all assume need to be 'educated'. The Andrew Doyle show is good. I never watch Farage!

Did they assume you were far right and it would fit in with your viewing habits?

If the bile spouted on GB News is the view of whole communities then it’s time we repurposed those small boats that we’re apparently being overwhelmed by. It’s the closest thing to fascist TV that we have- fortunately, it’s also not very successful which at least gives me some hope in the British public.

GB news is the only place you'll hear any sense. You'll certainly not get that at the BBC.

GB News stand up for the silent majority. Who, by the way, are actually quite powerful in their numbers.

The crying, shouting, foot stomping, outraged and angry left won't accept any opposing views though, of course.

GB news has it's place - the format is different from the other news channels, and it's more like a current affairs program. Some bits are right wing leaning, but let's face it, some viewers are clearly right wing leaning too. We can't just have programs that present an 'accepted' point of view. Watch it for yourself and if you don't like it, turn over.
