To think encouraging people to send chocolate secretly is not a good idea?

So Cadbury do this thing where you can send chocolate anonymously to someone. AIBU to think this is not something to be encouraged? I'd be disturbed receiving unexpected chocolate to my home address.

OP posts:

I’d return to sender.

Cadbury’s is horrible since the company was bought by Mondelez.

Shopper727 · 17/11/2023 13:55

I was stalked years ago by an ex and I don’t think a bar of whole nut sent this way would’ve freaked me out tbh
the other stuff he did maybe but I’d assume it was a friend being kind. I love whole nut so I’d have eaten it either way.

MrsMarzetti · 17/11/2023 14:00

wokbun Would you freak out if interflora delivered flower, after all they have been doing this for half a century and we all find that normal and don't lose the plot.

It doesn't really bother me overmuch because I am already familiar with the concept of postal systems and gift giving.

LakeTiticaca · 17/11/2023 14:02

Someone sending chocolate is not likely to be a random stranger. It's more likely to be your mum, your sister, partner or a friend. Unless, as other pp's stated, you have an obsessive stalker, in which case yes it would be freaky
Please feel free to forward any unwanted choccy to my address 😉

FlamingBlue · 17/11/2023 14:06

I wouldn't mind if it was edible but Cadbury's chocolate isn't since it has been stuffed with palm oil etc by the American owners.

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 17/11/2023 14:08

My god.... Do you start quivering when junk mail comes through your door?! How did you react back when free samples of products used to be put through everyone's doors?!

StockpotSoup · 17/11/2023 14:08

I’d only be scared if someone sent me a Bounty. Then I’d know they really had it in for me.

Which posts are you laughing at? The ones where posters are sharing their experiences with stalkers? Yes hilarious....

Edited

No one's laughing at people being stalked, don't make up stuff that's no there

The silliness is in thinking that somehow Cadburys are doing something that is different to anyone being able to post anyone else anything on any day of the year

Surely no thinks this is an incitement to start stalking

35965a · 17/11/2023 14:10

People are probably getting it sent to themselves. I would anyway 😂

UndertheCedartree · 17/11/2023 14:12

I have to say it would freak me out. That may not be logical but it's how I feel. I do have EUPD, autism and past trauma so I'm sure this affects my feelings about this!

mondaytosunday · 17/11/2023 14:18

What kind of paranoia is that?
I sent an ex boyfriend (we were friends after) a chocolate at Valentines when some company did this years ago. He couldn't figure it out and I was all innocence! It was cute him wondering if someone had a crush on him, but to be honest it wasn't something he dwelled on for long.

Haha
I remember free samples

TW
Do NOT continue if of a nervous disposition or eating etc etc .

Many Years before I was born there were small samples put through the door of my great great grandparents house
Everyone was out bar my great great Granddad who greedily (he was like that at times apparently) ate the lot.
Turns out if was laxatives but he could not read so thought it was chocolate
Much laughter from gt gt Grandmother and other relatives when they got home and also a "Serves you right you greedy bugger"

OP I think YABU re your post

LadyMacB · 17/11/2023 14:30

Just to be clear, if someone wants to ask a major chocolate manufacturer to send me free stuff but remain anonymous, that’s absolutely fine with me.

Krankin · 17/11/2023 14:32

Send it my way.
I wouldn't care who sent it, I'm eating it.

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBabyYeahRight · 17/11/2023 16:20

If someone sent me an Anonymous bar of Cadburys chocolate through the post, I'd be over the moon.

Did you miss the part where I said ‘some of’ the messages? of course you did.

NeedToChangeName · 17/11/2023 18:30

I'm with OP. I wouldn't appreciate any anonymous chocolate, flowers etc. I'm surprised how nanh say they woukd be OK either it

HappySammy · 17/11/2023 18:33

I'm on the electoral roll. Anyone willing to pay a few pounds for a 192 search could find my address. I'd happily accept free chocolate packed and sent by Cadbury and wouldn't find it creepy.

ExcellentFabulous · 17/11/2023 18:35

Normally it would be creepy if out of the blues but knowing that there's a public campaign going on about it and it's coming straight from the company, then it isn't an issue. It would be fun trying to figure out who sent it.

Someone should send me some chocs please!

Tin foil hat on because OP got me thinking: I hope they won't be doing any data collection stuff with people's addresses though.

Tin foil hat off.

HomeBird43 · 17/11/2023 18:38

Gosh. Wait till you hear about Valentine’s Day

phoenixrosehere · 17/11/2023 18:38

I would find it strange and bin it automatically. The person obviously doesn’t know I’m not a chocolate fan and having listened to enough true crime including a story where a woman sent poisoned chocolates through the post to kill another woman. The woman who received it, shared it with her family, her and her sister who ate the most died and other family members were sick. Not trusting any anonymous food coming through the post.

5128gap · 17/11/2023 18:39

widowtwankywashroom · 17/11/2023 11:56

I really do wonder how people get through life! Of all the things to get your knickers in a twist, someone who knows your address and pays to send you a present is not one of them!
Even if Cadburys is not your favourite chocolate, how can it be creepy?
Get a bloody grip

Well who would do that in your life? Because anyone who would have the sort of relationship with me where they'd gift me chocolate, friend, family, boss, wouldn't do it anonymously. So who does that leave? Basically, the same demographic who send you cards from 'a secret admirer'. Creeps!

pilates · 17/11/2023 18:41

I would love it 😊

Sartre · 17/11/2023 18:42

I’d love it personally… Not sure what the big deal is.
