Not at all about the women, just that I would not want to date a habitual user! Or punter as they're called. And yes this came up recently.

This is discussion about how you would feel about it?

AIBU - wouldn't mind
YANBU - would mind

  • There are approximately 800,000 people trafficked across international borders annually and, of these, 80% are women or girls and 50% are minors.
  • The global sex trade is the fastest growing form of commerce, worth $32 billion annually.

It’s modern day slavery and the numbers of women who are forced into prostitution are staggering.
I would argue that this has been largely ignored because the Lefthas been obsessed by the’sex work is work’ argument and no one cares about these women.

I agree it's a massive problem but you can't blame the 'left'. The tories have been in power for, what, 14 years and have done absolutely nothing about it.

LlynTegid · 17/11/2023 05:59

I agree with you OP, would be a red flag. Though I expect you are in a rare position to actually know.

Blueeyedmale · 17/11/2023 06:03

Many of these women and girls are often victims of physical, emotional and sexual abuse and selling their bodies for a £20 rock this is the value she puts on herself it's about time we give these victims the support they need and go to town on the absolute vile people that exploit them

I nearly had a heart attack!! Complete overexaggeration but it did stun me a bit.

No chance I would see him as anything but Punter Paul, so to speak.

Better conversations could be had than I'm so ugly compared to his prostitutes because I cut my hair.

I would not want to be with a man who thinks women are just fuckholes to be hired and thrown away.

MarvellousMinnie · 17/11/2023 07:09

I'd dump him for speaking to you like that, never mind his past behaviour with paying for sex!

C1N1C · 17/11/2023 07:25

I agree with the above thoughts largely, but I'm interested in how people would handle the lack of sex.

To put it into context, literally any girl can go on OLD and be swamped with men after one thing... but your average man could message thousands and not get any interest.

So, while I agree, I am absolutely against prostitution too, what are people's solutions to that itch that women are (largely) able to catch ad libitum, but men cannot?

Men who can't get sex without paying to rape a woman, need to have a wank to sort out their physical urges.

It's not women's problem to solve

None of us get everything we want in life. For some people, that might be sex with a willing partner.
Tough luck. That's how life is sometimes.

Catsmere · 17/11/2023 21:17

It's paid rape and any man who uses prostituted women and girls (and iirc the median age for entry into this is thirteen) is a rapist.

Sex is not a need. The "I'd never have sex otherwise" argument doesn't cut it. Man's desire to orgasm into a woman's body doesn't give him the right to override her lack of desire for him with money.

Teapot32 · 17/11/2023 21:18

Would it change your views if the woman wasn’t trafficked but had a big sex addiction or weird fetish and loved the industry?

I don’t agree with it either fyi, just curious if it changes peoples views based off how the women feel.

I’m single and have a high sex drive but funnily enough it’s never occurred to me to hire a prostitute. I don’t use OLD either. I know it’s wild but, I just don’t have sex 😮 and somehow I am ok 😮

A wank! If it was just about not being able to get sex you wouldn't have men cheating on their wives/girlfriends with prostitutes. Not to mention women who can't find decent men, do they all go out and shag a male prostitute? No, they buy a Rabbit!

I can't remember the thread where it was mentioned... but there is a documentary out there about sex workers who specialise in helping disabled clients to lose their virginity/have sex.

Nope. It's still about the morality of the user, not the reasons of the other person. If you think you can buy consent, even if someone is willing to sell it, you're not an ethical person.

In the vanishingly rare cases where this is so (if there are any) I wouldn't have a problem with a woman choosing to make a living from having sex. I don't in principle oppose the exchange of money for sex.

If I knew with certainty women were doing it without coercion, were directly benefiting from the sale of the sex without a large amount of the profit being creamed off by a pimp or "boyfriend" and that the money was going to themselves and their children and not being used to buy drugs or pay off debts to traffickers I would be fine with it.

But the reality is that vast majority if not all prostitutes are prostitutes because of factors such as drug addiction, poverty, slavery or coercion and almost all of them are being exploited by men.

And I certainly wouldn't want to have sex with (or any kind of interaction with) a man who had paid a prostitute for sex in full knowledge of this.

kitschbitchseason · 17/11/2023 21:49

No I would not date a man who’d ever thought it was ok to buy a woman’s body. Even it it was in the past or just a one off.

This.

Blinkityblonk · 17/11/2023 21:59

He sounds vile, OP, in more ways than one, thank goodness you found out now and not when you were in a more in-depth relationship.

Janeandme · 17/11/2023 22:00

YireosDodeAver · 17/11/2023 05:30

Yanbu.
Using prostitutes is rape.
Consent cannot be bought.
A man who uses prostitutes is a rapist. Wielding you economic power over a woman to mahe her accept sex with you is as bad as weilding a knife to the same end - if the consequences to her of not getting that money are just as fearsome as being cut.

A good person, when seeing a woman so desperate that she is selling her body, would do what he can to help her get food and shelter and treatment for any mental or addictive illnesses she has without expecting sex in return.

This is unacceptable to me, and derides rape. As much as I am not supportive of men who use prostitution, it is not rape. By any definition. I do not support this sort of hysterical response. Nor do I accept it.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2023 22:04

Obviously YANBU to the general question.

Re the particular bloke
cut my long hair off and he started shouting at me that I was ugly now compared to his prostitutes.

Bloody hell, a man shouldn't shout at a woman if she decides to cut her own hair. And what's with the "his" prostitutes ... he may have been vile enough to hire them but he doesn't own them. Is he a punter or a pimp to use such an expression?Confused

Absolutely - anybody thick enough to continue making this ridiculous assertion is saying that prostitutes can't be raped.

Have a word with yourself.

No, you have a word with yourself no one said prostitutes can’t be raped, what was said was prostitution wasn’t rape as a default position.

It's different for women as sex is always so easily attainable, therefore less value to it, most men would struggle to get sex outside of a relationship at all unless they paid for it. Many men can't get relationships and there's no shortage of sexless men out there.

That's where some of the demand comes from, but it doesn't excuse the men that pay.

I was agreeing with you. The end part was meant for the previous poster and their ever-predictable 'all prostitution' is rape schtick.

Apologies if my post wasn't clear.
