I would divorce my husband if he behaved like Giles Coren did

I read an article in the Mail on Monday about how Giles Coren abused his neighbour who is the mother of an autistic child by pretending to be a delivery driver to gain access to her house in a row about parking. I am the mother of an ASD child and would divorce my husband if he behaved like this. I can’t believe someone who is employed by the BBC has so little control over himself. No wonder he was issued with a police caution. His poor neighbour.

Off topic, but Jay Raynor… 😍

I concur! Jay Rayner = major BDE

Completely. The exact opposite of Mr Coren.

Giles and Jay had a Twitter spat a couple of years back. It was deleted pretty quickly, but it was very clear that Jay was not a fan.

As for the deletion of the DM story about the caution: we know there was some kind of incident with a neighbour which was being investigated by the police - this was widely reported back in October and those reports are still available online. That investigation would have concluded at some point, and a caution is certainly one of the ways this could have been concluded. One possibility is that there was, in fact, a caution - and it was the neighbour who leaked this to the press. (Most of the quotes in that article came from the neighbour). Giles might have objected, for privacy reasons (a caution would not normally be a public matter, I don’t think - and as it means a criminal record, it can clearly impact on work prospects etc.), and the article was removed. Like I say, that is just a possibility.

In this news report about Amazing Hotels it says Giles chose to leave the Programme in order to do another project.

He says, ‘I’ve got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that I’ve had a knee-trembling new television series commissioned that has the potential to be by far the best thing I’ve done on telly.
'The bad news is that, in terms of scheduling, I have had to choose between this new baby and another series of Amazing Hotels.’

He later thanked the BBC, saying: 'The beautiful way you have gone about this changing of the guard means so, so much to me.’

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11062739/amp/Giles-Coren-BBC-2-Amazing-Hotels-presenter-following-Twitter-spat.html

Anyone know what the “knee trembling new television series” is? The new presenter - Judge Rinder - has appeared on the new series of Amazing Hotels, but I haven’t seen Giles on anything. I really hope it’s not on the BBC. I would definitely make an official complain if the license fee is being used to pay his salary

We’ve not heard anything since about this amazing project of his, have we? My own suspicion is that he was effectively pushed from Amazing Hotels, but the BBC allowed him to say it was his choice so allowing him to save face. (I think they do this quite often when someone is dumped from one of their shows). That might also explain his thanks to the BBC about how they handled it.
I don’t think it’s the sort of job Giles would have given up. It was high profile, probably paid well, and involved a lot of top-end freebie travel etc. I suspect all this stuff about his amazing new project is just bluster.

It was always going to end up there. It's the usual Tattle crew.

Blaming Tattle for Mumsnet is a bit like blaming women for men’s actions

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/11/2023 19:33

He used to complain about his Jag being stolen. Was it ever really stolen or did he drive it and forget where he'd left it?

Gordon Ramsay is also not a Giles fan it seems. Is anyone? #lol Apart from Esther of course?

Say nothing bad about the Man-God that's Jay Rayner, definitely visited by the Good Fairy. He's written a very moving piece in the Guardian today. Love him, his writing and his observations on life.

And he’s 6 foot 3!

I liked what Jay Rayner wrote too, though I don't know much about him.

What do you mean by “usual Tattle crew”?

I mean the screenshot and the link to the website in your OP were shared on Tattle and then shared by the Tattle posters on Twitter and then you started your thread here. And every time there is a thread that originated on Tattle it somehow ends up blaming women. Every time.

newnamethanks · 16/11/2023 21:13

Jay is the son of the late Claire Rayner, who was also a prolific writer, a nurse for many years and reassuring Agony Aunt to the nation. He's a credit to her and her husband Des.

Actually, I took the screenshot of the article from the Daily Mail journalist Richard Eden’s Twitter feed. He originally reported on the parking row and was abused by Giles via email.

Jay Rayner. That man. Sigh. I mean the dream!

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 17/11/2023 07:07

Jay Rayner went to the boys school that our girls school shared coaches with. He was also at my university. He was (from what I recall) really pleasant.

DM & VCM were holidaying in the same hotel as us, in Cornwall couple of years ago. They seemed lovely to the staff and kids who went up to them. My dcs are older so knew not to bother them.

I wonder if Victoria is nice in real life, after all they are siblings.

I wouldn't be surprised if she had a nasty side also. I liked their dad but maybe he wasn't nice either !!

newnamethanks · 17/11/2023 07:44

If she has a nasty side she's wise enough to keep it to herself and not inflict it on the rest of us as her brother does. So leave her alone.

WilheminaModel · 17/11/2023 08:26

As well as being super attractive Jay Rayner always seems really kind and measured on Master Chef. Giles was always very supercilious and sneering on the hotel show. I’m glad the BBC has replaced him and this “knee trembling” new series he said had been commissioned hasn’t seen the light of day. If it does I will be the first to make an official complaint!

The quite good thing is that overall I see a lot less Oxbridge posho public schoolboy twats on the BBC.

Once upon a time someone like Giles Coren would have been in a sea of other Oxbridge posho twits all speaking the same way, with their cod "I'm very sexy" ways.

Now, I neither hear nor see such people with the same frequency.

Society is changing. Goodbye Giles. Your type have never been less fashionable or more dull.

WoollyBat · 17/11/2023 08:42

What is it about Jay Rayner? He OOZES sex appeal and seems lovely into the bargain but I can’t even put my finger on why. I’m a bit miffed that everyone agrees, I’d rather he was my weird crush but he’s obviously everyone’s!

WilheminaModel · 17/11/2023 08:45

Giles must be absolutely bloody furious that he’s lost all his TV work as a consequence of his own actions. I’m sure he must be a nightmare for Esther to have around the house all the time, and that they must all be walking on egg shells as he’s always on a hairline trigger, about to explode and call a journalists c*/verbally abuse a neighbour/threaten to rape a child. Poor her.

Mmmmm Jay Rayner...

He can critique my cooking* anytime he likes!!

*May be speaking figuratively here.

newnamethanks · 17/11/2023 08:53

Sorry Woolly, you have to share. A lot of Jay's appeal, I think, is that he is so calm and measured. That's becoming increasingly rare to find. If he's ever found in a 3 in a bed, coke sniffing, sex dungeon I'll be more upset than his wife and family. He seems like a fair-minded, reliable and trustworthy all round good bloke. I hope he is🙂

BarbaraCadabra · 17/11/2023 08:56

When I read what GC said to Michael White on Twitter the phrase that came to mind was 'his accusations are admissions'.
