To be embarrassed to tell anyone in real life of my major achievemen?

Today I've achieved a goal that I set 7 years ago.

Finally into BMI overweight category for the first time in my adult life.

I'm 50ish and have been trying for so long to achieve this.

I have no siblings and although plenty of close friends my humiliation at being fat for so long isn't something I share.

I lost a lot 5 years ago, then got a fuckit mentality and put 2/3rds of what I lost back on like a decking idiot.

I've battled and battled and finally hit that 30 today.

I know 30 is still unacceptable but it's a big step for me in the right direction.

I'm sure people still look at me and judge, but I try not to let it affect me.

Happy to be candid about this but possibly not a full AMA.

I feel quite flat about it to be honest and not sure why.

I think it's because I don't have a suitable confidante, so maybe there's folk on here who I can anonymously share with and they can empathise, maybe that'll lift my spirit and inspire the last push?

A couple of PPs have asked about calories.

My aim is 1400 calories a day which I mostly achieve. But don't beat myself up if I go slightly over - anything less than 500 over should not result in a gain, though the scales do sometimes do a nonsensical jump which is frustrating.

Blimey, I swim all the time and can only manage 1.2k! You're on fire 😍

Gymnopedie · 16/11/2023 12:52

Partly because my little treat of a Nice Handbag reward has just arrived. She's a beaut

Photos or it didn't happen 😁😁C'mon, share!

I'm so happy for you, your own pleasure at what you're achieving shines through.

sorrow4ever · 16/11/2023 17:54

Congratulations OP. I’m truly happy for you. Not always people can be sympathetic with weight loss related issues. It’s a major achievement to reach a goal, even if other people think differently. Don’t let them talk you down. If they do maybe they are not the best people around to support you. Stay happy 😊

Pooooochi · 16/11/2023 18:31

Great work op. Sustained weight loss is fucking hard, its a massive achievement.

Jem57 · 16/11/2023 18:36

Well done,onwards and upwards

Nochoiceleft · 16/11/2023 18:42

Brilliant work. Enjoy that bag.

Naimee87 · 16/11/2023 18:45

Yaaaaaay! That’s brilliant! 🥳

Lisa46 · 16/11/2023 18:47

Well done you. It’s not only a great achievement in itself, it’s also a huge indication of how strong you can be. Controlling your own mind is one of the most difficult battles you’ll ever face.

Loveaholidayor2 · 16/11/2023 18:53

Well done you!! Inspirational 👍

mommatoone · 16/11/2023 18:57

OP that is absolutely incredible 👏 well done you!

Anithos · 16/11/2023 19:03

@10andcounting You have done so well. It's no easy task.
I understand how you feel. I lost a large amount of weight at Slimming World a few years back but have piled it all back on.....and more.
You have been sensible and kept at it and what a result. You should be very proud.
❤️❤️❤️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/11/2023 19:15

@10andcounting good for you!!! 👏
I went through a rough period and was quite overweight. It took a lot for me to turn it around and get my healthy life back. Your accomplishment is amazing!

BlueGrey1 · 16/11/2023 19:28

Well done you!

you probably feel flat as it has happened gradually but it is still quite an achievement!

You should treat yourself as you met your target and that must have taken quite a lot of work and willpower, ( I find dieting so difficult) buy yourself some nice new clothes to celebrate your new body

BlueGrey1 · 16/11/2023 19:33

By the way, further to the above, if I have to loose weight I can only eat around 1200cals per day and to maintain weight I can eat approx 1500cals, I’m only 5ft3 .

it’s very tough!😊

Abbymom · 16/11/2023 19:33

Congrats OP!!!!! It's a genuine accomplishment, you should absolutely be proud!!!

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 16/11/2023 19:34

Well done OP, you deserve to feel good as that's a huge achievement!!!
Losing weight is not easy for most people.
You've inspired me to aim for 12 stone too. Thank you.

makeminealargeoneagain · 16/11/2023 19:35

Fabulous OP. Well done x

Hotfeetcoldfeet · 16/11/2023 20:09

Well done!!! You should be so proud of yourself. Maybe have a think about all the skills you have developed that have helped you get there, such as determination, focusing on mini goals, ability to stick to a plan, overcoming obstacles, what ever they are, and focus on these. It might help you focus more on what has helped you in relation to the process rather than the outcome iyswim. I think achieving outcomes sometimes can be a bit anticlimactic so focusing on the process helps for me. The goal is the path and the path is the goal!!

Jack80 · 16/11/2023 20:32

Great achievement 👏

Rufffles · 16/11/2023 20:34

I'd be very proud of myself in your shoes. Well done!

Justrestingmyeyes1 · 16/11/2023 20:36

EnjoythemoneyJane · 16/11/2023 20:42

OP, I know you’ve had pages of supportive and encouraging comments but I didn’t want to just read and leave because your post made me feel really emotional on your behalf. Seriously, fucking well done. Enjoy your lovely handbag - hard earned and well deserved x

TheOracleofNothing · 16/11/2023 20:43

I'm a dietitian with almost 20 years experience in weight management and I say 'that's f**cking epic'. I've worked in all areas including itu, cancer care, gastric surgery, eating disorders etc and I still say weight management is by far the hardest bit. Obesity is a medical term that just doesn't describe the complexity of the condition. The number on the scales is the tip of the iceburg masking the vastly difficult situation underneath. I absolutely commend this enormous achievement!! Coming under a bmi of 30 immediately reduces your risk of diabetes and cardiometabolic syndrome leading to heart disease and stroke, not to mention the impact it should also have on your emotional wellbeing. Good job op.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 16/11/2023 20:48

Kudos to you! You have done an amazing thing.
