To be embarrassed to tell anyone in real life of my major achievemen?

10andcounting · 15/11/2023 12:13

Today I've achieved a goal that I set 7 years ago.

Finally into BMI overweight category for the first time in my adult life.

I'm 50ish and have been trying for so long to achieve this.

I have no siblings and although plenty of close friends my humiliation at being fat for so long isn't something I share.

I lost a lot 5 years ago, then got a fuckit mentality and put 2/3rds of what I lost back on like a decking idiot.

I've battled and battled and finally hit that 30 today.

I know 30 is still unacceptable but it's a big step for me in the right direction.

I'm sure people still look at me and judge, but I try not to let it affect me.

Happy to be candid about this but possibly not a full AMA.

I feel quite flat about it to be honest and not sure why.

I think it's because I don't have a suitable confidante, so maybe there's folk on here who I can anonymously share with and they can empathise, maybe that'll lift my spirit and inspire the last push?

Massive well done! I would love to achieve this! For what it's worth I doubt many people would judge you at your current BMI.

Itsbritneybitch22 · 15/11/2023 14:42

This is incredible well done 🩷 How have you done this and stuck to it?

Bobbotgegrinch · 15/11/2023 14:42

Bloody well done @10andcounting !

I get the flat feeling. You've set a milestone, and achieved it, but it's only part way there.

It's like climbing a bloody great hill, you've gotten to a flat bit but realised theres a load more hill beyond it. You don't feel you can shout about it to your mates, because people will look at you odd if you brag that you've climbed halfway up a mountain.

What you can do though, is turn around, take a look at how far down ground level was. See how steep the hill you've already climbed was, and use that to prove to yourself that you can do the last bit.

Be proud of yourself OP, you deserve to be.

Ofcourseshecan · 15/11/2023 14:42

Well done, OP. I’d buy myself a gorgeous top to show off my new look in.

TheClitterati · 15/11/2023 14:45

that's incredible OP - so very well done!

lost4st · 15/11/2023 14:46

OP, you are absolutely fabulous and should be proud of yourself!

I dont know if you have seen this thread - its sort of the support you describe, where anonymously people share a little bit of the benefits of the changes they have made and encourage each other, and celebrate the smaller goals - some entirely trivial and lighthearted. I can see you are already inspiring people with your thread here and suspect a lot of people would love to here your experiences on this one too.

Well done you!
Looking forward threading your next post when you are in the healthy category!!!!!!

Dontmesswiththeyakult · 15/11/2023 14:58

Well done OP, absolutely fab. I cannot imagine this was easy so you have a massive virtual pat on the back from me. Remember that even if something feels like a small step, it is a step forward nonetheless.

🤩

peachgreen · 15/11/2023 15:07

Amazing OP, congratulations! I felt similarly when I hit the same milestone, so I get it – but honestly, the difference in how I felt, my energy levels, my general health, was astronomical. It's so worth it!

Night409 · 15/11/2023 15:18

That is incredible OP!!!
Well done to you and all of your hard work!!!

My biggest advice is to now keep it off.
You’ve worked too hard to have to start all over again.
Keep calorie counting as part of your life but have a cheat meal or 2 a week.
And if you haven’t joined a gym already then I would do it because I feel this keeps you disciplined.

You’ll probably be a lot lighter once you’re skin is removed and you weigh less than you think you do.

Considering as you don’t have much weight to lose, you could start looking into this now as it probably takes quite a long time.

How did you lose it all the second time?

StarlightLime · 15/11/2023 15:20

Well done 💪

Tonight1 · 15/11/2023 15:21

People should be delighted for you 💐

RoundTheBendThenBackAgain · 15/11/2023 15:27

Well done! It is SO hard to lose weight, especially if you've had issues with it mlst of your life. You should be very proud of yourself.

Also....any tips on how to successfully lose the weight...?

Mygosh · 15/11/2023 15:30

Well done OP, you must be incredibly proud of yourself. Weight loss is so difficult! Are you going to buy yourself a nice outfit or something?

ColleenDonaghy · 15/11/2023 15:35

That is absolutely incredible OP, you should indeed be very very proud.

Makemeover4 · 15/11/2023 15:36

Popetthetreehugger · 15/11/2023 15:38

Woo hoo ! Go you 🙌

enchantedsquirrelwood · 15/11/2023 15:39

That sounds utterly amazing OP. You should definitely come back and tell us if you get to half, but what you've achieved so far is stunning.

HAF1119 · 15/11/2023 15:40

Wow!! Well done!! It's so hard and you've done so so well!

Enjoy all the congratulations on here, I totally get what you mean I find it hard to talk to people in 'real life' on it too! But you really have done great. Know that your goal is for you. Your health, your family, your well-being. And you are doing so great!

elliejjtiny · 15/11/2023 15:40

That's amazing, well done you.

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/11/2023 15:41

Well done op. I’ve lost 2 stone and stalled atm due to ill health… I’m better in the summer time and am trying to just keep my weight the same right now. Am category 1 obese.

WearyAuldWumman · 15/11/2023 15:44

Well done, OP.

I felt the same when I got down from 'obese' to 'overweight'.

LimePi · 15/11/2023 15:52

Congratulations! Well done - this is great :)

Americano75 · 15/11/2023 16:00

I bet your friends would be just as impressed as we all are, well done!

Zanatdy · 15/11/2023 16:12
