To be embarrassed to tell anyone in real life of my major achievemen?

Today I've achieved a goal that I set 7 years ago.

Finally into BMI overweight category for the first time in my adult life.

I'm 50ish and have been trying for so long to achieve this.

I have no siblings and although plenty of close friends my humiliation at being fat for so long isn't something I share.

I lost a lot 5 years ago, then got a fuckit mentality and put 2/3rds of what I lost back on like a decking idiot.

I've battled and battled and finally hit that 30 today.

I know 30 is still unacceptable but it's a big step for me in the right direction.

I'm sure people still look at me and judge, but I try not to let it affect me.

Happy to be candid about this but possibly not a full AMA.

I feel quite flat about it to be honest and not sure why.

I think it's because I don't have a suitable confidante, so maybe there's folk on here who I can anonymously share with and they can empathise, maybe that'll lift my spirit and inspire the last push?

What an amazing achievement OP, well done! 👏

Drcrafty · 15/11/2023 13:49

So OP you are telling me that you achieved your goal (and a hard one at that - our bodies dont like losing weight especially after our twenties) while still managing to live a normal existence, maintain a home, raise children and have a marriage? What's not to celebrate? You are amazing

hobbledyhoy · 15/11/2023 13:49

Amazing OP, bloody well done!

Try to enjoy your progress and success. I think sometimes as humans we are programmed to continually strive towards something and keep moving the targets rather than enjoying our achievements as we go.

In a short while you'll move down to the next banding category and feel even prouder of all that you've done.

snowday888 · 15/11/2023 13:50

Well done Op! Great achievement after a lot of effort! You should be proud of yourself and celebrate it!

Sebsaloysius · 15/11/2023 13:52

That's one heck of an achievement - unless you've been on that particular bus, it's really difficult to convey how bloody hard it is. But there you are, smashing it!

Well done you x

Flufferblub · 15/11/2023 13:54

Well done OP! Not easy at all 💐

LookItsMeAgain · 15/11/2023 13:54

That is dedication! 7 years to achieve that goal. Well done. You've managed to get to that milestone. You should be massively proud of yourself! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!

MaliciaKeys · 15/11/2023 13:55

Congratulations 🥳

dontreallyknow85 · 15/11/2023 14:00

Brilliant, well done you 😀

randomchap · 15/11/2023 14:01

That's an amazing achievement.

You should be rightly proud of yourself

Excited101 · 15/11/2023 14:03

That’s so awesome! Keep it up!

My3dahliasarebloominlovely · 15/11/2023 14:06

Bravo OP!
In my book, "overweight" is a brilliant achievement! X

Lemonyfuckit · 15/11/2023 14:06

Amazing achievement OP, congratulations!
Keep up the great work Flowers

spookehtooth · 15/11/2023 14:08

Exactly @Gettingbysomehow For many modern physical or mental health things, it's too often the case that the whole person isn't looked at, physically and mentally. The physical and mental things aren't separate, they're highly interdependent and some even argue they shouldnt even be regarded as separate at all

Josette77 · 15/11/2023 14:15

Congratulations!!!!

SandwichDog · 15/11/2023 14:16

Congratulations! You've done fantastically well. That's not achieved without really steady, determined effort over a long period of time. It's really admirable. Well done! (And personally I liked "decking" 😂)

Gymnopedie · 15/11/2023 14:19

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Maybe there's no-one pinning a gold star on you IRL, but I wish I could!

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 15/11/2023 14:22

So well done 🌟🌟🌟

Tanktanktank · 15/11/2023 14:23

Well done OP 💐💐💐

AelinGalathynius · 15/11/2023 14:24

That’s freaking amazing! Well done! I wish I could be committed enough to lose
half of that 🙈 I’m terrible, just can’t seem to go a day without a sweet treat (or several 🙄)

whoseafraidofnaomiwolf · 15/11/2023 14:25

Oh congratulations 10andcounting, that's quite a satisfying achievement.

Can I ask what your daily calorie allowance is? I've been trying to lose weight veery slowly over a fe years with calorie counting and had some success - though often it's 2 steps forward, one step back. I'm at a plateau at about the same weight as you and wondering if my calorie intake is now a bit high (1400 a day is my aim).

mn29 · 15/11/2023 14:29

Well done you! It is not easy and you're right to feel proud of yourself!

I wonder if the feeling flat comes from the feeling over weight people have that "everything in life will be better when I've the lost the weight" and now you realise that's not the case?

I also wonder if some of your reluctance to tell friends is the fact that it's all too easy to put weight back on again? Although I'm sure you're determined that it won't.

Fannyannie · 15/11/2023 14:30

That’s such a brilliant achievement ! I have lost weight before and it’s so hard to stick to it.

I find there’s a lot of support on Tiktok, from weight loss to binge eating support. I like to listen to keep up my motivation.

A normal BMI is now in touching distance!
You can do it 👊🏻 Good luck !

cathcath2 · 15/11/2023 14:31

Well done! That's a fantastic achievement!

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 15/11/2023 14:35

That is a big achievement and well done! Do you feel better, energy and health wise? I’m looking for inspiration.
