Doginthebed · 12/11/2023 19:05

My daughter had a friend over today, said friend left shoes downstairs and puppy chewed them slightly. She has been over before and told to put shoes on stairs out of way. I was in bathroom when she arrived . Aibu to not refund £150 for shoes . They are very wearable just nibbled on on top back area .

Wtaf at the shoes from? If she can afford those it's her harsh lesson to learn. Take better care of your OWN items.

PlipPlopChoo · 12/11/2023 19:07
  1. The shoes can still be worn
  2. The child was already told where to put the shoes

Absolutely do not pay

floofbag · 12/11/2023 19:08

£150 for shoes ?? Are they gold?

If you told her then it's on her

Overthebow · 12/11/2023 19:08

£150 for shoes? No don’t pay, she should have left them where you told her to.

Wendysfriend · 12/11/2023 19:08

It's she an adult, child ? Why were her shoes off ?

thisisnotgoodj · 12/11/2023 19:08

If they insist on you playing ban the girl from your house going forward.

Zanatdy · 12/11/2023 19:08

Not if she has been told to keep them out of the way. £150 is a ridiculous amount too

Sirzy · 12/11/2023 19:09

Whoever let her in should have reminded her. I wouldn’t necessarily pay the full price but I would contribute something towards

benefitsterrified · 12/11/2023 19:11

What age of child?

BurntOrangeAutumn · 12/11/2023 19:11

Are they teens with shoes that pricey? If you told her not to leave the shoes out bc of the dog I think its on her unless it's a young child ...

Testina · 12/11/2023 19:11

How old is the child? At £150 for shoes, I’d hope teenager? Has she asked for payment, or is this just you wondering if you should?

She has been over before and told to put shoes on stairs out of way.

This sounds like she wasn’t told this time? If you’re relying on a typically scatty early teen to remember than two weeks ago you made a comment which might have only related to that day (puppies grow, or are crated or not on specific days) to put her shoes on the stairs, then I do think you have some responsibility.

Depends on the age of the child and when they were told, I think.

Well the shoes were off as she was in the house I assume

Thedm · 12/11/2023 19:14

How old is she?

The price of the shoes doesn’t matter. Your dog chewed them. If she is young then it’s your job to remind them and move the shoes so you need to pay. If she is an older teen then it’s her responsibility.

labmum567 · 12/11/2023 19:16

If it were my child's shoes I would expect you to offer to pay but I wouldn't actually accept it.

Santaiswashinghissleigh · 12/11/2023 19:18

What about if op's ddog had choked on a bit of shoe? Would the friend pay vet bill? Ddog and shoe should have been kept apart.. Ddog lives there. Shoe owner doesn't. Shoe owner should have ensured host's ddog was safe from choking hazzard...
Imo.

InTheRainOnATrain · 12/11/2023 19:19

I’m guessing you told her where to put the shoes last time she was over and expected her to remember, as opposed to you told her this time and she ignored you? If that’s correct then it’s completely your fault and you should replace the shoes.

TeaKitten · 12/11/2023 19:19

How old are the kids?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/11/2023 19:20

Age of the guest doesn't matter. Your house, your responsibility for your shoe-chewing dog.
Train your dog properly or keep it away from guests and their shoes.
Prompt reimbursement is necessary.

BurntOrangeAutumn · 12/11/2023 19:21

What shoes were they that cost £150? Are you sure they actually cost that much did you look them up?

What on earth? It’s basic social convention to take your shoes off and leave them by the front door. It’s impolite to leave shoes on unless the host explicitly says it’s ok and as a guest you certainly don’t start going through random cupboards to find a place to put your shoes away. If shoes need to go somewhere specific because of a pet then that’s 100% the host’s responsibility to communicate. How could you expect otherwise?

TeenLifeMum · 12/11/2023 19:25

Host is responsible - your dc should have advised her while you were in the bathroom. I’m guessing they’re the Vivienne Westwood shoes lots of teens are wearing (not mine because they wouldn’t dream of asking for shoes that expensive).

Oh ok, we walk on all our floors with our shoes. Definitely wouldn't get a guest to remove theirs.

Doginthebed · 12/11/2023 19:26

Guest been before. Knows our protocol about things left lying around .Guest 15 years old
