To not think 41 is that old for pregnancy

I was lucky enough to have kids in my early 30’s but obviously many aren’t. Dh said that my friend 41 is very old for pregnancy and he worries about her child’s future.

I think if you can have children younger you should, but each to their own - there are no rules.

My parents had my youngest sibling in their mid 40s. Seeing the challenges that came with having a child so late - including my dad dying 2years later - me not want to have kids beyond 40.

Dealing with teenagers at in the late 50s/early 60s seemed painful.

There is a statistical link between having children in your 40s and living to 100.

Having a 10 year old at 50 is fine (I've done it), if anything my schoolfriends who had children in their early 20s are the ones who have old attitudes because some of them are now grandparents and thinking about retirement whereas all my DC are still at school so I'm still in the busy stage of life.

I’m 41 and currently early pregnancy with an unplanned DC (we use contraception, was definitely unplanned). We already have children who were born in my late 20s/early 30s.

I’ve had raised eyebrows from the few people who know but I am not sure what the expectation is from those people.

Whilst I am both pro choice and aware of the risks of an ‘older’ pregnancy, I don’t feel that I want to terminate the pregnancy so I am getting my head around it and will (assuming hopefully that all goes to plan) be delighted when the baby is born.

You are still young.

If you had a child in your late 40s then you may have problems.

Incidentally being over 35 means you get screened. So unfortunately it means that most of the kids I have met for the last decade or so who have the commonly screened for disabilities have younger mothers.

One of my relatives had her first baby age 16 and her last baby age 47. She has 7 children in total.

It's the largest age gap I could have known but in all honesty, she is so so fit and does everything somehow. She is amazing and looks half her age I swear.

After seeing her, I think any age for having a baby is wonderfully fine! I would never do it myself as I am drowning despite being significantly younger. BUT if you can and you want to, then why not.
