To think the Labour Party has lost its mind..

Absolutely fuming with some of the clowns in the Labour Party.
25 points ahead of the Conservatives in the opinion polls.
Starmer slowly making the party electable and moving away from the reputation of the party being a left wing student activist group and terrorist supporters. The next GE theirs to lose.
And now word on the grapevine is that 40 odd MPs are ready to resign from the front bench because of they disagree with Starmer’s stance on a ceasefire. Quite a few labour councillors have already resigned from the party and now stand as independents. Big names like Rayner and Burnham have already stuck their oars in too.
Really cannot believe that a conflict thousands of miles away, albeit tragic, has now assumed more importance than the frightful state of the country. That these people are quite happy to throw away the progress that’s been made electorally for the sake of a frankly almost unsolvable conflict that’s lasted 70 plus years and is incredibly complex whilst the country is rapidly falling apart and in desperate need of change.
If Starmer resigns over this, no way will I ever vote Labour again and I say this as a life long labour voter for the last 35 years. Thought we’d seen the last of Corbyn and his vote losing influence but nope, there he is, with his little pet project, destined to scupper yet another GE for Labour. Anyone feel the same way ?

To be honest I’ve been thinking of ANYONE is actually going to vote for conservative OR labour. In my circle everyone is sick of the both of them and happily voting anyone else but them two.

Maybe lots take this stance and the GE will have a very random outcome.

Yes I’ve got no idea what will happen. I’m not voting labour or tories and I don’t know any friends who will be voting for either. There’s lots of us who don’t want either party.

Sadly this is true. As long as Corbyn is standing up for his 'friends' Hamas and stirring up others to support Palestine, Labour looks set to implode.

What has Corbyn got to do with the Labour party, he isn't a member.

Corbyn is not a Labour MP.

Surely there won't be 40 resignations? That'd be ridiculous.

It wouldn't surprise me tbh. Think back 3 years Boris just won a huge majority then lots of his cabinet resigned over cake.

Vintagevixen · 08/11/2023 20:11

Labour lost it when they bought into genderwang, bullied Rosie Duffield and failed to discipline Lloyd Russell-Mole for his horrendous behaviour.

I come from a Labour voting family. I voted Labour all my life. Voted Remain. I will NOT be voting Labour until they apologise to Duffield.

I'm also pretty disgusted at the support for Hamas and the clear anti-semitism of many in the party.

I will not be voting at all, politically homeless at present.

There is some evidence it will be a bit different to 1997, since Labour may well have more seats and the Tories fewer.

https://www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/prediction_main.html

The point was, both parties are currently shit but people will vote Labour, despite being shit, to get the Tories out. Nobody really wins.

In the interests of factual accuracy I would like to point out the resignations occurred because Ministers were not prepared to go out and lie to journalists about the behaviour of Chris Pincher.

Oh Clav has arrived to start the attack on Starmer

Can you tell me why Keir Starmer removed his poppy to record a video on islamophobia? Labour claimed that Starmer's missing poppy was an error. Who are they trying to kid? Anas Sarwar removed his poppy for a similar video on the same day - it was clearly a deliberate gesture by Starmer.

ilovesooty · 08/11/2023 20:13

My MP made it clear in his resignation letter that he condemned Hamas.

I don't think it will be long before the Tory apologists arrive to divert the thread with "at least they know what a woman is". 🙄

@Noicant I hope so re floating voters. I actually like him and think his position is right, I just despair of how this very obvious schism is coming in public, again.
I don’t think they are unelectable but he does need to sort it.
Fwiw the 40 MPs number was quoted by a councillor from Oxford, since resigned, who reckoned she’s spoken to 40 MPs who are very unhappy. On Nicky Campbell phone in on 5 live this am.

The next general election will not be based on what’s going on in the ME. This will sound callous but by New Year, unless a nuclear bomb is involved, most people without connections to the region will have forgotten about it. The next election will be fought on domestic issues.

If he did I've no idea and I don't care. You're back with the whataboutery.

There has already been one.
I find it a little odd that the Tories are better because they know what a woman is. How many Tory Mps have raped women, or are guilty of other sexual assaults?

KinS24 · 08/11/2023 20:15

I think Starmer’s stance is correct. It’s just my opinion of course.
I am however more convinced than ever that Labour could never get consensus on anything difficult or nuanced however strong their leader is (and Starmer is no leader).
It’s easy to complain and campaign. Difficult to lead a country.

Sorry I meant the voters. Yes Labour will win, but the public voters won't, it's just going from one shit government to another with a different name.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 08/11/2023 20:15

What ‘grapevine’? 49 MPs have either called for a ceasefire or signed a motion for a ceasefire but where is it stated they are ready to resign over it?

Tbf it’s specifically about womens rights in legislation. That affects millions of girls and women and I think thats a reasonable thing for women to worry about.

And the vast majority of them are not on the Labour front bench and so reasonably free to hold a slightly different view to the front bench.
Rather different to the Home Secretary having her own policies that are separate from the governments, but lets not talk about that.

DomPom47 · 08/11/2023 20:08

You are entitled to your opinion. As are those Members of Parliament and Councillors. As the potential future Prime Minister it is totally acceptable that he is questioned about potential foreign policy and his stance on international affairs. As a life long labour supporter (although 50% Greens at local council elections) I would not vote for Starmer based on his current stance and I know of plenty of people who feel the same.

Thank you! You have summed it up nicely. I am so disappointed in Starmer, he’s not listening to his party or public opinion. And I sense the same is going to happen if he becomes prime minister. I am a lifelong Labour voter, I will most certainly not vote Tory (over my cold dead body only!) what they have done to this Country is unforgivable.
But do I want Starmer running our Country? Especially now he is refusing to listen?
I am tempted to vote Lib Dem at the election.

This is probably right, there was some talk of the tories pushing an election out as far as they could but they may decide to go earlier if Labour is still suffering from divisions over the ME.

Sparehair · 08/11/2023 20:18

I feel like Labour is too broad a church now and it’s increasingly obvious that it’s v difficult to keep it together. The range of viewpoints is too great. It’s risky but I think if the right wing of the party split off it could be v electable as that’s their best chance of getting the floating voters ( who are the only ones that matter really). Basically be more Blair. That’s how you win.

DottieMoon · 08/11/2023 20:19

I disagree. I have always voted labour but will no more due to Starmers position on Palestine/Israel. I categorically do not want to support with a leader who like sunak is supporting genocide. I don’t understand why you think because it’s thousands of miles away from the UK it should not influence uk voters decision. He has shown to be immoral and unethical and I won’t vote for that. You are ridiculous for blaming Corbyn. I will give him the praise that he is one of the few that will actually speak out for what is right and not be afraid to say the right to stay on the side of power and money which is is what Starmer and Sunak are doing. They should both be ashamed.

Throwhandsupintheair · 08/11/2023 20:19

‘I'm also pretty disgusted at the support for Hamas and the clear anti-semitism of many in the party.’

Who in the Labour Party support Hamas? You do realise supporting Palestinians isn’t the same as supporting Hamas don’t you? Don’t you?
