To consider myself in my 30’s

Jumponit77 · 06/11/2023 20:23

I’m born late July 1994 so I said I’m in my 30’s now and was corrected. It’s like people don’t know about rounding up.

OP posts:
soscarlet · 06/11/2023 20:24

So, you’re 29? 29 is not 30s 🙄

missmollygreen · 06/11/2023 20:25

Rounding up doesnt count with age.
Otherwise any 17 year old could drink legally in a pub

nutbrownhare15 · 06/11/2023 20:25

You are in your 30th year/ third decade however I wouldn't necessarily describe that as in your 30s.which I think implies a 3 in front of the age.

ApolloandDaphne · 06/11/2023 20:26

But you are not in your 30's, you are in your late 20's.

GoodTrouble · 06/11/2023 20:26

🤣

porridgeisbae · 06/11/2023 20:26

You still have 8 months of not being in your 30s. Smile Milk it for all it's worth.

Fionaville · 06/11/2023 20:26

You're in your late 20s. I didn't say I was in my 30s until I was past 31. Before then, it was just "I'm 30"
Why would you round up your age? You're closer to 29 than 30 anyway.

Sparklesocks · 06/11/2023 20:27

?
that’s not how ages work

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 06/11/2023 20:27

I'm in my 50's then (I'm 36).

Georgie8 · 06/11/2023 20:27

You’re in your thirtieth year, but not in your thirties (strictly speaking) until your thirty-first year i.e. when you have your 30th birthday next July.

LylaLee · 06/11/2023 20:28

YABU

Is your newborn a toddler? Just rounding up, innit?

Olika · 06/11/2023 20:29

This is probably the most ridiculous thing I have heard.

Sorry, cross post -we agree!

1990thatsme · 06/11/2023 20:29

No.

Just no.

porridgeisbae · 06/11/2023 20:29

I'm starting to round up to my next birthday but that's because it's only in about 3 months.

Surely usually with numbers, as a PP suggested, if it's less than 29.5 we'd round down rather than up?

ViaRia01 · 06/11/2023 20:30

I mean it probably depends on the contexts as well. If you’re chatting with a group of 34-38 year old friends and say something about us being in our 30’s… that’s probably fine, right, because it’s more about your stage of life, interests and lifestyle. If you’re filling in a form for your doctor then you should be ticking to 25-29 box!

Tweddle · 06/11/2023 20:31

Weird

TeaKitten · 06/11/2023 20:33

This is just stupid. You are 29, you are in your 20s. ‘20s’ IS the rounding bit. Otherwise you’d just say you were 29.

Not so , it's weirdly familiar there was a thread few yrs ago by an op rounding up their age . It is a weird thing to do. I kind of lost count in my late 20's and now I am fifty something 😁

OwlBasket · 06/11/2023 20:35

There’s rounding up and there’s rounding up. Your way doesn’t work. I was ‘nearly 40’ from about 37 1/2 and will be ‘nearly 50’ in a couple of years.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 06/11/2023 20:35

I’m 49, no rounding up around here🤣

It’s nonsense op, you don’t round age up or down, you just see what age you are!

RelaxedPigeon · 06/11/2023 20:35

This is like that post a few years ago where the poster said her child was 5 when she was actually 4. Bonkers.

SockQueen · 06/11/2023 20:35

Well I was born in June 84 and am definitely not in my 40s yet, so YABVVU!

Catandsquirrel · 06/11/2023 20:36

Ha my ex used to round up now and again, I've no idea why!! He wasn't a teenager looking forward to his first drink. Not from the UK so maybe it is the done thing elsewhere!
