To consider myself in my 30’s

Jumponit77 · 06/11/2023 20:23

I’m born late July 1994 so I said I’m in my 30’s now and was corrected. It’s like people don’t know about rounding up.

OP posts:
Cnidarian · 06/11/2023 21:02

Eh?!!!! No.....

RudsyFarmer · 06/11/2023 21:03

I suspect I may have said ‘in my fifties’ but possibly not often. Stating I’m 50, yes I’ve probably said that multiple times.

rumnraisinrocks · 06/11/2023 21:04

Can I round down? If so I'm in my 30s. Im 45

I take it maths isn’t your strong point? 🤣

YinrunIsMySpiritAnimal · 06/11/2023 21:05

Lol 🤣🤣
No that’s not how maths works

Runningonjammiedodgers · 06/11/2023 21:07

Are we allowed to round down too?

Sartre · 06/11/2023 21:08

If we all used the rounding up method we’d only be in one decade for four years, it doesn’t make sense.

mynameiscalypso · 06/11/2023 21:09

Eh? I'm 40 in a few days. I'm definitely still in my 30s now. This isn't the first time I've read a post like this though.

Rounding down would make slightly more sense as the OP is closer to 29 than 30 anyway.

If we’re changing our ages, I might start saying I’m 556 months old!

Tiiredofthiss · 06/11/2023 21:10

I'm in my twenties then (rounding down) 😂😂

Chickenkeev · 06/11/2023 21:10

On a more serious note, isn't this the type of stuff men get eviscerated for on here? Granted, they tend to shave off a decade, but still and all?

Pebbles16 · 06/11/2023 21:11

I have an aversion to prime numbers so went from 30 to 32. Now I am 'somewhat older' I just muddle it through with a general I'm in my decade because there is fuck ton of prime numbers in between and I'd be lying my way to 60 before I know it.
But @Jumponit77, you are bonkers, why on earth do you want to be older than you are?

Celebrationsnakes · 06/11/2023 21:20

There was definitely a thread exactly the same as this a few years ago.

I remember that one. Batshit.

I remember this - was it something like she cross referenced all the ages with the eldest child, so as soon as they went up a year in her mind all the others were upgraded to their next birthday as well, even if they'd just had their last one?

Or was that another weirdo one?

I can't imagine any reason where you'd need to give your age when rounding up would be any more useful than just saying your age? i.e. even if you don't want to say 'I'm in my twenties' for whatever reason just say 'I'm 29' rather than 'I'm in my thirties!'

dylanschicken · 06/11/2023 21:20

Closer to?

No. OP IS 29.

AmazingSnakeHead · 06/11/2023 21:24

I used to round up, because I would genuinely forget how old I was, and 30 just seems much easier. I was 30 for over two years, from mid 29 to 32. My only excuse is those were the baby years for me, I was damned if I could remember my own name half the time!

ThatAlbinoCat · 06/11/2023 21:26

You're 29. When you're older (like me, 64), you'll wish you could knock years off.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 06/11/2023 21:26

Not so , it's weirdly familiar there was a thread few yrs ago by an op rounding uptheir age . It is a weird thing to do. I kind of lost count in my late 20's and now I am fifty something

I remember that one.

This is crazy and pointless, though.
"I'm almost 30"
"I'm approaching 30"
"I'm knocking on 30"
"I'll be 30 soon"

All of these are true. But claiming to be in your 30s, when you are not - as any age that doesn't begin with a 3 is categorically not 'in your 30s' - it's just a silly pointless lie for the sake of it. It's not even like there's any benefit, as there may be in lying that you're 18 or 21 when you aren't quite - as there's nothing that you can legally do at 30 that you couldn't do at 29.

Even certain older people who, for some reason, like to impress people with how long they've been alive still say "I'll be 87 next birthday in 11 and a half months' time" - they don't usually actually claim to be the age that they haven't yet reached.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 06/11/2023 21:30

Even South Korea has recently changed their longstanding tradition of considering a baby to be 1 year old at their birth.

I think it's just race horses now, where it continues officially!

LittleGlowingOblong · 06/11/2023 21:32

I’m 49 in 5 months, so mid-40s will do nicely, thanks!

EdithStourton · 06/11/2023 21:37

Can I round up and claim my pension?

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 06/11/2023 21:37

You might just manage to get away with 'extremely late 30s' at a push Grin

TiaraBoo · 06/11/2023 21:38

@EdithStourton right there with you 😁

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 06/11/2023 21:41

I'm reminded of Emile Ratelband, who went to court in an attempt to officially change his date of birth to make himself twenty years younger - although he failed.

I'm not sure who would bother going to all that faff to make themselves officially appear only eight months different in age (whether older or younger), though.

JanglingJack · 06/11/2023 21:44

Trying to avoid the penalty shootout again eh?
