Three Crumpets

AIBU or is there an unwritten rule that you eat crumpets in pairs? DH occasionally has a single crumpet. They come in sixes, so that often leaves a random spare crumpet that can’t be paired up. He says it’s normal.

I thought this was about eating them in threes. That's wrong.

Singles are ok, when others also like singles.

LadyMacB · 03/11/2023 22:58

But surely whether you eat one or three, it’s the odd number that’s the problem.

Two slots in a toaster means two crumpets as far as I'm concerned. But then I always have 2 slices of toast too.

NewPapaGuinea · 03/11/2023 22:58

You can get 9 packs, so that rule doesn’t check out.

Hollyive · 03/11/2023 22:58

I want to disagree but we buy packs of 9 🤦‍♀️

WeightoftheWorld · 03/11/2023 22:59

Nah don't see the issue sorry. I usually would have two for breakfast but depending on how much everyone else eats there is often a lone one left over which I might have for a snack sometime.

LadyMacB · 03/11/2023 22:59

I’ve seen the 9 packs but I think that would just encourage him.

I eat 1 and my partner eats 2 so a pack of 6 works out perfectly over 2 days. 2 each would just fuck things up.

NinNinJin · 03/11/2023 23:01

I'm with you OP! 2 and 2 more if one is that hungry, no inbetweeners

Tilllly · 03/11/2023 23:01

LTB

CyberCritical · 03/11/2023 23:02

We toast up the whole pack of 6, it's unfortunate that the times me and DD choose to do crumpets for a snack are the times when DH has just had something to eat or doesn't like to eat. It means we have to have 3 each. 2 with butter and cheese and then a bonus pudding one with butter and jam or butter and honey.

BecauseTheWorld · 03/11/2023 23:02

I think the real issue is that you have to slightly crush a Waitrose Sourdough Crumpet to get it to fit in a Dualit toaster slot. (4 slot toaster, imagine eating four in a sitting!)

Jouleigh · 03/11/2023 23:02

You are completely right,
I'm actually jealous as mine tend to take 3, then I have the lonely one that has been left open and is a little stale.
I've tried buying 6 & 9 packs, they all disappear in an uneven way.

I've found for other food items that putting them underneath the vegetables in the fridge helps.

The crumpets I'm happy to share, but I hide them until the offer has been taken. Then actually get time with the kids 1-1 while munching food together

LadyMacB · 03/11/2023 23:03

The other issue I have is people who turn up the toaster to 6 to do crumpets but don’t turn it back down, meaning that whoever comes next incinerates their toast.

This is the real problem. It's like leaving the toilet seat up. Rude.

What? You can eat however many you want.

UpsyDaisyMegaphone · 03/11/2023 23:06

No, this is terrible behaviour.

As bad as the people who only take one paracetamol.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 03/11/2023 23:06

This. Why would a crumpet automatically need to be 'paired up'? Confused

If he only took one paracetamol I think I’d change the locks.

There's a lady at work who only ever has half of anything.

'Would you like a biscuit xxx?'
'Oh, ummm, I'll just have half.'

So then there's half a digestive left in the tin, what is wrong with these people???

UpsyDaisyMegaphone · 03/11/2023 23:09

They should be culled.

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 03/11/2023 23:10

I’m not seriously firing up the toaster for one crumpet. They take so long that I burn off so many calories waiting for the first one that I need the second. it’s like celery only with carbs

LikeRobbieSays · 03/11/2023 23:11

YABU to call them crumpets, they are Pikelets and can be eaten in any quantity

TitInATrance · 03/11/2023 23:11

Came on to say three buttered crumpets is the ideal number, then remembered that putting a poached egg on top of one and jam on the other makes two a balanced meal :)
