Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

Yeah that’s why I don’t own a dog 😂😂 You’re pretty vile if you do this! I assume those who don’t take their dog shit away are pretty poor owners and probably got their dog during lockdown!

No I don't own a dog cause I'm not a skank.
Just saying it could be a factor.

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/11/2023 20:29

Theres 11 million dogs in the UK. More than, I would think.

That means if even just a third of them have inconsiderate arseholes for owners that is still millions of dogs owned by arseholes.

I do think dogs and kids are comparable on many levels - comparable does not mean 'kids are less important than dogs' though arguably, your kid is and always will be significantly less important to me than MY dog...

Up to around 3 ish, both struggle to communicate, lack impulse control, make poor decisions, don't respect personal space, don't understand the basic rules and need to be closely managed.

Beyond that, both can behave in a way that causes others worry, fear, irritation. Both can spread communicable disease and parasites, though you are more likely to pick up an infestation from a child than a dog.

BOth are fucking annoying and a bloody liability if the adults responsible for them do not do their due diligence. Both can be a delight and source of joy to many.

So yeah, I'll die on that hill. You don't have to like it, but they are comparable.

I also do not want icecream covered jizz fingers on my dog. I don't really care if those fingers belong to a toddler or an adult!

Milliemoos5 · 03/11/2023 20:30

This made me laugh.. actually it’s pretty commonplace for adults to lick other adults genitals and ‘other’ areas! At least dogs only sniff each others genitals.. humans get right in there 🤣
humans also often don’t wash their hands after cleaning their a*re and then touch theirs or other peoples food

I hate shaking hands, particularly with men, knowing there’s a high chance that man didn’t wash his hands after handling his D in the toilet beforehand!

so not sure humans are less gross than dogs after all tbh!

CombatLingerie · 03/11/2023 20:29

Letting off fireworks is a completely selfish pursuit that upsets a lot of humans not just pets as I mentioned in my previous post. Don’t try and tell me otherwise!!

I enjoy fireworks. Love to see the displays that people let off. It’s not like they happen daily.

MustWeDoThis · 03/11/2023 20:31

I own dogs, have just raised 10 large breed puppies, have also hand/bottle fed other dogs, I take in rescue dogs.

I would have kicked that dog clear across the road - Child and your safety comes first. If owners are not being responsible, then you cannot be responsible for protecting yourself.

Muzzle your dogs and leash them. If you ate too lazy to do this with your animal who could turn at any moment (regardless of size and health) don't bloody have one!

SoShallINever · 03/11/2023 20:31

Prescottdanni123 · 03/11/2023 20:18

@SoShallINever

Keswick is a holiday town. Lots of people bring their dogs on holiday with them. It is designed to be a place you can bring your dogs too. I live in Keswick. The main attraction is for walking and a lot of walkers take their dogs with them. I can honestly say there isn't skidmarks everywhere and it absolutely does not stink of dog wee.

The patches of green mould you see on lamp posts and tailings could be dog pee, but more likely to be caused by rain. The Lake District is the wettest place in the UK and even a town full of dogs aren't capable of peeing several inches of water a day like rainclouds can.

Edited

Nope, it really stank. I think maybe you've just got used to it?
I live next to a farm, I can't smell cows anymore but our visitors can.

Missingmyusername · 03/11/2023 20:33

@LuckySantangelo35 so it’s only gross if you lick your own huh… anyone else’s is fine. Yum! 😋🤣
Humans can be gross too. At least dogs don’t pick their nose and eat it! It’s all relative.

Applepyed · 03/11/2023 20:34

@kitsuneghost next time my baby poos in his nappy should I just leave that hanging in the tree if there’s no bin nearby then?

Itwasafterallallaboutme · 03/11/2023 20:34

LuckySantangelo35 · 03/11/2023 19:57

@Missingmyusername

He’s a very clean, well groomed boy. Probably cleaner than you🤣”

highly unlikely. Dogs stink and they can’t wipe their arse and they lick their genitals and sometimes eat their own shit. Humans do not not do that

@LuckySantangelo35 I think that if they could reach, you would find a lot of adult humans would lick their own genitals, after all they are often happy to lick someone elses...

I agree that there are probably not many people who eat their own shit, but there are far too many who talk it...

EctopicSpleen · 03/11/2023 20:37

Yes they absolutely should all be on leads.

I am sick of uncontrolled dogs chasing me, barking, and occasionally snapping at my ankles when I'm out for a run.

I am sick of seeing the deer in our local forest terrorised by out of control dogs.

I am sick of having to stand between my child and a snarling out of control animal while the owner lounges nonchalantly 20 yards away, not even trying to get them back under control.

Hanging a little plastic bag full of dog poo on a branch, or leaving it anywhere in the park or forest or other public place, should be a capital offence - or perhaps we could have the owner eat the contents.

I have had it with the "he's only being friendly" when a large dog jumps up on a small child, or "don't worry he's harmless/ he doesn't bite" when a nasty bloody mutt is growling savagely and is clearly one step from taking a chunk out of me or someone else.

They have a hefty carbon footprint and damage the environment:
https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/opinion/pets-uk-ownership-cats-dogs-carbon-environmental-impact-b1249610.html

I am sick of reading of children being mauled / killed.

In almost all cases it's the owners - the selfish bloody owners who are too lazy to control their animal. If they can't manage the animal it should be taken away from them and humanely put down. Despite what I've said, I quite like (most) dogs.

Prescottdanni123 · 03/11/2023 20:37

@SoShallINever

When I first arrived in Keswick, all I smelt was fresh air, I would remember the overwhelming stink of pee you describe. The regular rainfall will wash pee away before it can become a town wide permeating stench anyway. Even if there was one, all the smells from the chippies, restaurants and food stalls would mask it.

I agree with this.

I have both children and dogs and find other peoples small kids generally far more annoying and badly behaved in public places than the majority of dogs.

WinterDeWinter · 03/11/2023 20:38

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 20:27

@WinterDeWinter cafes are establishments where people go to buy and consume food, which is exactly what children do when they are with parents. Why are the dogs there?

Ok more overthinking incoming but:

From a moral philosophy perspective (I am slightly making this up and speaking hypothetically), doesn't the 'don't allow your own desires to negatively impact others' position come before the 'what is the function of this place' position?

So a well-trained dog who sits quietly under the table andallows other diners to enjoy their meal in peace is, from a moral perspective, less of a problem than a badly-trained child. The child doesn't have an objectively greater right to be there - it depends on how they behave (ie impact on others).

I'm being a bit facetious but actually, having had my precious expensive glass of wine in my lovely but popular-with-boho-families local interrupted yesterday by very loud toddler being fed posh chips at 7pm, maybe I'm not Grin

BogRollBOGOF · 03/11/2023 20:39

Two weeks ago, I paused mid-run to take a photo and a dog approached me while its gormless human yacked away on her phone to her ear. I was walking slowly back onto the path and the dog jumped up at me scratching down my thigh (leaving a long bruise after). I loudly and sternly said "down" and the dog started growling. Gormless owner vaguely registers a problem, continues her fucking phone call while fruitlessly calling the dog and reaching for it single handedly.

I didn't say anything further because I didn't want to aggravate the situation, wanted to get away and have had previous experience of other knobhead owners start coming out with shit like blaming me for being in places like "the dog walking woods" (a public nature reserve where dogs should be on leads to protect ground nesting birds) as well as the usual clichés like "it's ok he's friendly" or "it's a puppy"

I'll stop complaining about the nuisence animals of idiot owners when they actually start training them up not to assault people (or other animals- other dogs included), stop leaving their shit everywhere (loose or bagged) and just generally not be an obstruction to other people going about their business. Sadly I do have a catalogue of incidents over the years of interrupted picnics, bowled-over toddlers, being snapped at, followed, and jumped at including being snapped with teeth (fortunately just a slight scrape and not broken skin). It seems to just be an occupational hazard of doing a lot of walking, running and generally using parks.

I like calm, well trained dogs that mind their own business and are under control with attentive owners. Most are, but about 10% ruin it for everyone else in off-road public spaces.

Itsjustagoogleaway · 03/11/2023 20:40

kitsuneghost · 03/11/2023 19:57

That is an advert to ban domestic animals then surely.
Cats and dogs are very bad for wilfdife and environment.
They only exist for selfishness of humans.

The same could be said of all pets, animals in a zoo and let’s not forget farm animals for food.
Maybe we should just let them all die out…it is, after all our own selfishness that keeps breading them.

Danielle9891 · 03/11/2023 20:41

Unfortunately it's the owners to blame 99% of the time. As a responsible dog owner we got our dog well socialised as a puppy and went to puppy training classes. I also make sure she can't escape from our garden and we keep her on the lead even when out on walks. It's these owners that get dogs and don't bother to train or socialise them that causes the problems.

I know of some people who live a few doors down and I've never even seen their dog getting walked, they also don't drive so their dogs don't get out. The dog warden wasn't bothered about this when my next door neighbour reported them. Some dogs never leave their owners garden so they go mad when they do get out.

Commonwasher · 03/11/2023 20:43

If you don’t want to carry bags of dog waste to the nearest bin then don’t have a dog.

WinterDeWinter · 03/11/2023 20:43

I'm vegan and agree with @Itsjustagoogleaway that ethically there's less and less of an argument for any kind of relationship between human and animal where the human dominates.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 03/11/2023 20:43

It won’t be long until dogs are classed as vermin if you look at the definition.

Morethantimeandmorethanlove · 03/11/2023 20:44

What about these annoying extending leads … fine if there’s lots of space but not on a pavement where there is the possibility of people tripping

Itsjustagoogleaway · 03/11/2023 20:46

Vermin.
Here we go.
Humans could come into this discription aswell😳
