Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

@WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps the thing is with these dog friendly establishments people like you aren’t really welcome in them, so why do you insist on forcing yourself on them? I think you should just stay at home then you can dictate who is and isn’t allowed in your establishment.

vodkaredbullgirl · 28/11/2023 12:57

Some people are like a dog with a bone on here.

Halllooo · 28/11/2023 13:00

Op-
Perhaps could try some CBT? it’s excellent for dealing with emotions around situations that you have no control
over.
You can either accept there are dogs around or go mad ranting about it but either way your feelings about them are not going to change the way things are.

H007 · 28/11/2023 13:00

@YinrunIsMySpiritAnimal no-one is trying to justify the behaviour. The point it you are tarring all dogs as aggressive and all owners as irresponsible because of the actions of a few. I have two dogs and neither have ever been aggressive to another person. They are both trained and both are always under control. I am not the owner of the dogs in the video so why are you trying to blame me and my dogs for their actions?

I didn’t say ‘all’ so please don’t make things up. I said ‘too many’

I am not blaming you for that dog’s action. What an utterly bizarre tale on what I said. I don’t even know you

I don’t actually go for walks in certain areas now due to idiot owners
How sad for you to restrict your life on the basis of a very unlikely event. You are more likely to be seriously injured driving to the area.

My OH cycles 3 times a week and has done so for over 30 years and has never had this experience. We have always gone on walks 3very Sundays (now more often with doggy) and never have been attacked by a dog.

And no, things were definitely not better before, it just wasn't in the news. A neighbour of mine got a nasty bite on his arm by another neighbour's dog when I was a kid. He had to get a number of stitches. The incident wasn't reported to anyone. He didn't sue the neighbour, he took as an unfortunate incident (he used to pet the dog regularly without issues and the dog had never bitten before). It certainly didn't make the newspaper. I'm not saying that it was handled properly, just that we didn't hear about these incidents before as we do now.

It may be unlikely but idiots walking their XL bullies with no recall off lead is not a risk I’m willing to take. I’ve come across so many cyclists and runners bitten by dogs who apparently ‘just want to play’. It’s everywhere. I don’t know when it all changed - possibly after COVID when every moron and his wife thought it would be convenient to have a dog they couldn’t train to stem the boredom.

Dog bites (and attacks on other small dogs) were definitely more rare when I was a kid. Now I hear about it constantly.

CellophaneFlower · 28/11/2023 13:09

I don't get where all these posters live where they are totally overrun by dogs either. I live in Greater London. Lots of people have dogs round here, yet I'm not seeing loads in cafes/restaurants/pubs etc. In fact, I'm not even aware which places allow them as I see them inside that rarely. Sane goes for the tube/buses. I know dogs are allowed on them and I use public transport frequently. Yes, I see the odd dog on my travels, but not often.

The only place I see lots of dogs are in outdoor areas, where I'd expect to see them.

YinrunIsMySpiritAnimal · 28/11/2023 13:12

Try coming to Yorkshire, there is only Wetherspoons round here that doesn’t allow them in

I’d rather rip my own ears off than move to Greater London but cheers. The beauty of North Yorkshire is something I’ll never leave, even with he abundance of bad dog owners.

Hear that? That's the sound of London breathing a huge sigh of relief.

It’s everywhere
You mean wherever you live because it certainly isn't in mine.

Exactly. It's now reported everywhere. The media LOVE a good report of dog attacks. They will report how a child got mauled by a dog and only right at the end say that they had a scratch and went to A&E just to be sure about infection.

This would never ever been reported in the past.

Imagine - the press reporting on news!

Can you give an actual example of a scratch being described as ‘mauled’. How do you think the press hear about these things BTW?

Fabulous. We've finally agreed on something. You're not.

Lifesd · 28/11/2023 13:36

I was shocked to see a dog in Fenwicks in Newcastle at the weekend - wasn’t a service dog or any kind. I don’t know why it was there and certainly not on a busy Black Friday weekend!

Lattims83 · 28/11/2023 13:41

DonnaBanana · 27/11/2023 19:26

I don’t mind dogs themselves but I don’t think they should get special treatment. I wouldn’t let a child poo in the street even if I were going to pick it up afterwards so I don’t want to see a dog doing it on the pavement either! Let it go before you go walkies or maybe a dog nappy or something.

Clearly you have no clue how to take care of a dog. You can't control when it poos, you can try and take it out but it's a living thing. Why don't you make your kid go before you get on an airplane, so the rest of us don't have to smell the shitty diaper? Oh right, you can't force it to go at a certain time either, just like dogs.

Here! Dog mauls toddler......and lost somewhere it states CJ suffered a minor bite to his stomach.

Definition of mauling an attack by an animal causing serious injury

I'm not undermining the experience. It must have been extremely frightening and owners of such dogs deserve what they get. I'm just illustrating how the media love to exaggerate the story to attract drama.

Horror dog attack on two-year-old caught on doorbell cam as pit bull mauls tot

Frightening footage from a doorbell camera shows the moment a young toddler was attacked by a pit bull. As the mother carried the boy away, the dog continued to chase and try to get to him

H007 · 28/11/2023 13:53

@YinrunIsMySpiritAnimal but it’s not too many is it? It’s the minority and the “anti-dog” stance on here is that because of the minority of bad owners dog friendly places shouldn’t be allowed. It’s just stupid. It’s kind of like knowing that all people from yorkshire are friendly but then you read posts from one who is and therefore “too many” Yorkshire people aren’t friendly and it’s not a nice place to go to.

We were on holiday in Yorkshire this year with our dogs, and there were a lot of dogs out with their owners but in general we struggled to find suitable dog friendly places to eat and drink. We did not come across one rude or ill behaved dog the whole time we were there.

Mondaymorningtoday · 28/11/2023 13:53

My friend, a dog lover, was recently the victim of an unprovoked dog attack. She was simply going to a nearby shop to buy a bar of chocolate. As she approached, a man tied a jack russell to a post and went inside the shop. She was nowhere near the dog, did not even look at it, but it suddenly lunged and bit her leg. Two children who saw what happened ran inside the shop to raise the alarm and the shop owner took her inside and closed the shop as my friend was bleeding profusely. She said she'd never known pain like it. She needed stitches and a tetanus injection. No idea why the dog attacked. She did not have her own dog with her. She is still a dog lover and will probably still do fun runs to raise money for dog rescue centres as she has done in the past (if her leg is okay, that is, she says it's still badly bruised). The dog owner? Oh, when the kids ran inside, he clipped the dog on the lead and ran off. There ARE responsible dog owners out there, but irresponsible dog owners like this are a huge problem.

when I was 10 or so it was German Shepherds that were reported and blamed by press, then later Rottweilers - to the point
Where Spitting image did a sketch were they were being blamed for bank robberies and muggings…

same old, same old.

H007 · 28/11/2023 12:53

@YinrunIsMySpiritAnimal if that dog had been sat in a cafe with its owner on a lead that would never have happened.

seriously you are judging the behaviour of all dogs to one dog?! It’s just stupid.

Edited

This is a breathtakingly stupid response to the video. I’m sorry, it really is. Using that to support dogs being in cafes??

CollagenQueen · 28/11/2023 14:11

Agree they should be kept on leads! I walk 2-4 dogs at a time, and I'm also sick of dogs bounding up to us, and generally riling up my dogs so that we get all tangled etc. The owners seem oblivious to the mayhem it causes for me.
