Just fucking sick of dogs

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

Yes, it tells us that MNers like complaining about dogs.

That's because the feckless owners give MNers something to complain about.

I had breakfast last week in an expensive restaurant. A large dog kept coming up to us sniffing, licking and wagging.

Owners "he's just being friendly"
Us "he's spoiling our breakfast. Please keep him away". Ignored.

We complained to staff. They were young. They would "pass our concerns onto the managers ". They didn't have the maturity to talk to the dog owners.

We asked to speak to a manager. They repeated the same line and didn't speak to the owners either.

Our breakfast had been ruined by this point. We left. We won't be returning.

Dogs used to be pets that stayed at home and were only taken on walks. They were perfectly content. Why on earth do people need to baby their dogs? They're animals, pets. That's all.

I say this as a dog owner.

@Missingmyusername do you actually know what "jizz" is?

Yes to a remote island.

PhantomUnicorn · 03/11/2023 19:18

dogs should 100% be on the lead at all times unless they have perfect recall, which none, if extremely rarely do.

Honestly think in light of the bully xl ban which is unfairly targeting innocent dogs, that as a public we ought to be routinely reporting every incident of dogs 'rushing' us as its an offence for a dog to be out of control off lead, and if your dog doesn't come when called, its out of control.

zero tolerance, until it gets through to owners in the uk that it ought to be on the fucking lead.

And yes, i do have a dog, and i know he doesn't have recall, so is never taken off.

AgentProvocateur · 03/11/2023 19:19

I’m always amazed when I come back to the U.K. how many free-range dogs there are. And how much dog shit.

Aturtleatemysandwich · 03/11/2023 19:19

Couldn’t agree more OP. I hate pet dogs and the way so many people seem to want to treat them either like actual humans or as a way of intimidating others.

Someone will now be along to tell me I’m emotionally stunted, there’s something wrong with me, I’m a psychopath, they don’t trust people that don’t love animals, that they prefer dogs to people….

Scottishskifun · 03/11/2023 19:19

Unfortunately there are rubbish owners everywhere and a lot of that was compounded by lockdown.
Dogs should be in control if not then on a lead but dog walkers have the right to use parks, public footpaths etc just as much as a walker, a cyclist or a child on a scooter.

I don't think it's reasonable to tarnish all dog owners with the same brush and I've had my fair run ins with people who think my dog shouldn't be somewhere they are perfectly allowed and in control just because they don't like dogs (especially mine as she's a large black sight hound rather then a cute fluffy toy poodle!)

Findingaway · 03/11/2023 19:19

I normally would be all about the dog friendly vibes. But today I witnessed a dog pee in a cafe on the floor, over someone’s coat, the dog started to drink it and the lady just got up and walked out. If I hadn’t of told the cafe owner they would have cleaned up the puddle using their mop. People should not have dog inside cafes!!!

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 03/11/2023 19:20

Some dogs are annoying, some people are also annoying.

I think I’ve been lucky no never really encounter the sort of dogs described so often on here. Maybe my areas an anomaly 🤔

BeingGivenMoney · 03/11/2023 19:20

YANBU.

A dog went ploughing into my 6 year old this morning as we walked through the park to school. My son went flying to the side and a woman called over, “Don’t worry about him, he loves kids!”

I glared at her and told her to put her dog on its lead.

The entitlement of such owners is ridiculous.

halloweenhalfterm · 03/11/2023 19:21

Your problem isn't the dogs. Your problem is the crappy owners.

Missingmyusername · 03/11/2023 19:22

@vandctime a highly concentrated liquid chalk apparently 😆

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:23

@Missingmyusername I mean, I do agree with you but also this is another issue I have: dogs and children are not comparable.

I’ll be honest, I say I don’t like dogs. They smell, they are noisy, they are irritating (to me) and they shit everywhere. That would be totally fine if owners and keep the dogs away from me and clean up their mess. But more often than not it’s jumping all over me with it’s muddy paws, or it’s aggressively approaching me and my children.

@Homewardbound2022 - 🤣🤣

SwordToFlamethrower · 03/11/2023 19:23

SAME. I was out for a walk and a bull terrier came bounding over towards me with my baby in the pram, I stood in front of the pram and it jumped up all over me, I got absolutely covered in mud.

I genuinely wanted to kick the dog away, I was absolutely terrified.

The owner apologised saying "I didn't think anyone was around"!!!

I absolutely HATE DOGS. If you must have a dog, keep it on a fucking leash.

Hermione101 · 03/11/2023 19:24

Totally agree and say it louder for the idiot owners who can’t control their dogs.

I too was chased by a dog on my ebike with my children on the back. Also dog shit everywhere.

Yes, it tells us that MNers like complaining about dogs.

Or it tells us that there are lots of issues with dog owners who don't actually know how to be good dog owners.

Where the complaint should be about the owners.

Sartre · 03/11/2023 19:27

Totally agree with you. I’m a runner so I get dogs running in front of me a lot and the owners always giggle like it’s funny. It wouldn’t be funny if I couldn’t stop in time and hurt the dog and/or myself… They should be on a lead if they can’t be trusted not to jump at random people.

WedRine · 03/11/2023 19:27

I hold the same opinions of cats tbf, but at least dog owners should be picking their dog poo up, we have issues with the neighbour's cat coming into my garden to take a crap every single morning and leaving its dead mice and birds on DD's trampoline. Absolutely vile.
