Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

Yup. You'll be given a rough ride here but lots of hopeless dog owners around. The toileting everywhere turns my stomach.

‘Toileting??’
You’re allowed to say dog poo, you know. Even the pearl clutchers won’t need to go and lie down in a darkened room.

Only if there are no bloody dogs

North or south pole?

arkmatter · 03/11/2023 20:50

I've lived in both inner city and on a smallholding. Dog mess was an issue on pavements and getting it out of child's trainers just horrible,

Rural areas, dog walkers do what they like mostly. Their dogs run off paths, leave doggy bags behind, even the bright red ones. Recall seems to mean anything the dog would like to do, even though on footpaths they are meant to stay on the path with or without a lead. Not all dog owners like this though many are OK. Hunts are the worst, enough to put anyone off dogs and humans.

Ohdearwhatnow4 · 03/11/2023 20:50

Round here dogs aren't the problem it's electric bikes and scooters, even those being rode careful. I do have cats and dogs. My dogs are one big with perfect recall but looks scary and one spaniel who's got shit recall and very nervous. Children think cause she's young fluffy and cute she's fine to pet, she's not. The big dog would love the cuddles but everyone scared of him. I guess no where's perfect

Astrabees · 03/11/2023 20:51

I’m so sad at all the anti dog views on here. My dog died in June and we are still too upset to get another. In the meantime I have been really cheered by all the dogs I meet out and about, including a lovely Border Terrier in the changing rooms at Toast in Bath and a beautiful Mastiff sitting on a banquette next to his owners at a Borough Market restaurant. I seldom see a badly behaved one. Children in public places, especially restaurants are another matter .

12345mummy · 03/11/2023 20:52

YANBU. Also add to the points you made: they do not need to be inside shops or sitting at restaurant tables.

We can even say dog shit on here

Gobleki · 03/11/2023 20:53

Cant stand the stinky bastards and their terrible owners. Once in a blue moon you see those really, really well behaved dogs and I think to myself that the owners must feel like super dog parents. King and Queen of the dog world…Elite trainers 😂 They must feel smug as fuck
as most dog owners are terrible at controlling their dogs. Even the good ones still reek though.

Ever so often in a moment of madness I type into the internet something like “Dogs that don’t smell, malt or bark” 😂😂 Then realise I’ve lost my mind, they don’t exist and I will never ever get one.

Densol57 · 03/11/2023 20:53

I dont mind dogs but bike riders drive me nuts

Justgorgeous · 03/11/2023 20:54

Every dog owner thinks that we should all like dogs and we should put up with them jumping up and sniffing around us. We don’t. Put your dog on the lead, pick up their poo and go on your way.

DelightfullyDotty · 03/11/2023 20:55

It makes me really sad that people hate my dogs, when they’re just minding their own business, always on leads and I always pick up their poo.

It’s like me saying that I hate all humans. I hate many (most?) of them but I love some of them.

Don't be sad and I'm very sorry for your loss. I think there's something incredible about the bond between a human and a dog and I wish more people could experience it. At the same time I deplore badly trained/controlled dogs making humans anxious and badly trained owners making everyone miserable leaving their dog's shit anywhere other than in the bin.

It's complicated.

But I really hope that in time you're able to think about another dog. It really is an incredible relationship (obviously a massive PITA most of the time but hey Grin) and I really hope you are all able to experience it again.

(I'm aware there is a massive conflict between my abstract moral position of 'humans shouldn't dominate animals' and my human position of 'dog + human = joy for both').

I agree, I rarely see problems with dogs. With us it’s adults and kids riding on the pavements shouting for us to get out of the way when it’s a pedestrian path. We don’t.

This isn’t the thread for you PP, too upsetting.

Sausage dogs are the wurst.

😆

JFT · 03/11/2023 20:58

I love dogs but I'm sick of seeing them being badly kept and badly looked after. It's the owners not the dogs.

I live in high density inner city housing. Due to the construction of our buildings, they are zero pet policy, strictly no dogs. You'd think people would be glad to have a social housing tenancy and low rent to live in a high standard in the middle of the city... but no, of course plenty have gone out and got dogs.

The dogs are suffering and the residents are too - barking, urine, faeces, smell, and dangerous behaviour. So sick of it.

Don’t take any notice of the Batshit posters on here - I walk our soft hound every day and he is never off lead in public we don’t bother others and I pick up all his shit. Most people either ignore him or love him - either is fine, we don’t force people to interact with him.
MN is a parallel universe.

SpringingJoy · 03/11/2023 20:59

Well luckily for me (and my dog) the law disagrees with you ☺️ I've no intention of keeping mine on a lead and I've never been to a 'dog field' in my life. Nor do I intend to.

GetBackIntoBed · 03/11/2023 20:59

YANBU OP, and the poll shows over 600 of us agree with you.

I am beginning to hate them too because of the crappy (mainly) middle-aged owners around here. I say that as THEY ARE OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER! They blame kids for anything they can, then go off and let their dogs poo anywhere. I have even offered some a poo bag (I keep them in my pocket though have never had a dog) and the horror on their stupid, thick faces when challenged would be funny if not so annoying and disgusting.

And why do they excuse this by saying they "stick and flick it" into the undergrowth as it is "as good as compost and biodegradable"??! As if little kiddies keep to the paths in a straight line and it is the kids fault for walking on the poo? Thick as mince.

ForegoneConfusion · 03/11/2023 21:00

I love dogs, but there's so many shit owners around at the moment.

Ramalangadingdong · 03/11/2023 21:01

SoupDragon · 03/11/2023 19:07

Yes, it tells us that MNers like complaining about dogs.

Because we have something to complain about. And devastatingly for some it has resulted in injury and fatalities. And before anyone says it I know that it is “not all dogs”.

Dinglewoop · 03/11/2023 21:01

Hmmm on balance I put unreasonable as I do agree about uncontrolled dogs but I don't agree that should mean all dogs are always on leads. As for restaurants, that's really up to restaurant owners and I guess you just shouldn't frequent dog friendly establishments if a dog being there is a deal breaker for you. Personally somewhere not being dog friendly puts me off.

MorningHood · 03/11/2023 21:02

It’s all very well telling people not to blame the dogs, that it’s the owners etc.. However, if everywhere wasn’t ‘dog friendly’ then it would be less of an issue in general.

Why the fuck do people need to bring their dogs everywhere? Restaurants, shopping, pubs, changing rooms ffs!? They are animals at the end of the day. We don’t bring rats, birds, cats, chickens and fucking horses into these places..

No we don’t, that’s just offensive utter bollocks.

DelightfullyDotty · 03/11/2023 21:03

@Fieldofbrokenpromises thanks🙂. I do try to stay off here but it’s so addictive!
