Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

Do you want to walk around with shit in your pocket
I know I don't.

If, for whatever reason, you don't have your hands free to carry the hopefully well and truly knotted closed bag with you, then yes, yes you should. Or get something to clip it to their lead away from you. Or literally anything else until you find an appropriate bin. It's the absolute bare minimum manners imo.

Can't believe there is any rational person who thinks leaving a bag of dog shit somewhere other than a bin is acceptable. If you're too squeamish to carry the bag until you reach a bin, you shouldn't have a dog.

oakleaffy · 03/11/2023 20:21

@Mumof118 Sounds a complete liability.
If someone has a dog likely to catch squirrels they need to be very careful.
Often children feed them in Parks and Gardens, or older people film them, and a dog lunging at the squirrel can be very upsetting and frightening for a child.

That sounds a nightmare dog
hairy, destructive, probably noisy and smelly and “ Boisterous “ . Urgh!

coldcallerbaiter · 03/11/2023 20:21

Yes feral kids can be annoying, some cyclists too, lots of people are, but why are posters equating humans with animals?

MrsMiddleMother · 03/11/2023 20:22

Yanbu op, and I just don't like dogs. Full stop.

WinterDeWinter · 03/11/2023 20:22

Neriah · 03/11/2023 19:50

And I'm fucking fed up of cyclists on the pavement, flying around the local park at high speed (limit 5mph clearly displayed), going through red lights, etc etc. But fortunately I don't think every cyclist is a complete pillock. Just a lot of them.

I'm torn. Where I am (E London) there are plenty of over-friendly 'nice' dogs, more XL Bullies and big staffies than I'd like (which is zero) and a fuckload of infuriating cyclists whizzing past me on the shared paths nearby, riding too fast to stop if my on-lead dog decides not to go in a straight line. Also, the MAMIL population has been allowed to get out of hand.

My dog is off lead in the forest because I know she's too scared to approach anyone. So effectively fully trained in terms of her impact on other humans. Actually it's the other way round in her case - constant stream of people trying to say hello when she's giving clear signs of cowering.

Missingmyusername · 03/11/2023 20:18

@LuckySantangelo35 Humans do it too. We are equally pretty gross.

@Missingmyusername

what, humans lick their own genitals? Or those of other dogs? Sometimes eat their own shit? Roll in cat shit? Cos dogs do all that. But no humans don’t. So dogs and humans are not equally gross at all

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 20:22

@GonnaGetGoingReturns er, because he is a human? Children and dogs are not comparable. I get that some people think that children are annoying, but they are human beings learning to be in the world and have every right to be here. I don’t tend to take my kids to restaurants because I can’t trust that they will behave in a way expected in a restaurant but they have more right to be there than an animal.

You have my 100% support OP.

We have a relative who uses a manual wheelchair. Stepping in dog shit is one issue. Getting it on the wheels of the chair, then having to go on pushing those wheels is quite another 🤢

As for "He's just being friendly" well I'm not. Piss off you horrible mutt, I am not part of your friendship group.

You and I are in a minority though OP. All the dog lovers will hate us 😂

I’m with you. I’m an animal lover but dogs are everywhere now. Loathe the sight of them in pubs (not that I go very often nowadays) being treated like they’re something special. Bugger off with them

I know I don't.

Who puts shit in their pocket? Just hold the bag by the handle until you find a bin 🤯

mugboat · 03/11/2023 20:23

agree with you... luckily in my area they tend to be on leads but I am sick and tired of stepping in dog poo. I've yet to do a school run and not see at least 3 dog turds on the way.

The signs that say there's a fine are a joke as this is not policed.

Not sure why they got rid of dog licenses, if I had my way, I'd bring them back... they would need to be renewed regularly and the funds raised would pay for dog wardens to monitor dog behaviour and look for dog poo offenders. They could monitor high traffic doggy areas.

No doubt some mumsnetter will come along and tell me there's no point in doing this as shit happens... it's a race to the bottom it seems (no pun intended)

sausagepastapot · 03/11/2023 20:23

Yeah I fucking hate dogs too OP.

They're disgusting, they stink, they're dangerous, they're annoying. Twat owners are twats. There I said it. 💁‍♀️

Yeah that’s why I don’t own a dog 😂😂 You’re pretty vile if you do this! I assume those who don’t take their dog shit away are pretty poor owners and probably got their dog during lockdown!

Dazedandmore · 03/11/2023 20:23

Totally agree. I think the pandemoc just made it worse, feel like everyone decided being at home is time to get a dog and now they are everywhere! And regularly not on leads disturbing our picnic... catching and destroying the balls we play with etc ... ughhh

Woop sorry for the link, I sent it to my DH as he loves mumsnet too 😂

Did he approve or is he more into cat posters?

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 20:24

@GonnaGetGoingReturns totally misread your post - I’m standing down and I’m sorry!

Sausage dogs are the wurst.

I see what you did!

That made me laugh!

Applepyed · 03/11/2023 20:24

Completely agree. People moan about children harassing them or annoying them in public spaces but somehow we are supposed to be ok with unfamiliar dogs charging over. Of course it’s intimidating when they do this, you cannot know the temperament of each dog you encounter. Some owners get so defensive and say the usual ‘oh they wouldn’t hurt a fly’ but that statement means nothing when they aren’t even trained well enough to walk beside their owner. If owners can’t control their dogs not to charge at people then I doubt they control them well in other ways that could lead to harm.

I understand your point but I don't think that works. Surely if the measure is 'impact on others' then an untrained (sorry, but ykwim) child has no more right than an untrained dog (as long as the dog wasn't intrinsically intimidating).

Animals do have a right to be here from an ethical perspective - I think we're seeing now what that kind of human exceptionalism has brought us to. And that's even more true because usually they're here because we've caused that to happen one way or another.

Pickingmyselfup · 03/11/2023 19:13

There are a lot around but I very very rarely have an issue with them, doesn't matter if I'm running, walking or biking. They don't approach me, the owner pulls them in to let me past, all is well. I don't see much poo about either, there will always be the odd one but I'm definitely not dodging it all of the time.

I don't live in a posh area either, I live in one of the nicer bits of town but it's slap bang in the middle of the Midlands and not known for being nice at all.

I also don't own a dog, never have. I only have cats and rats so no skin in the game at all.

I get a lot of bother with dog mess, but I live right next to a path that leads to a football field where umpteen folk like to walk their dogs.

Some owners are responsible, but many of them just let the dogs mess on the pavement in front of my house or my driveway and leave it. Quite a few don't wait for their dogs to reach the field and let them off the lead before they're even at the path, with predictable results.

I'm always ultra-cautious when I leave my driveway, but I had one man yelling at me that I'd nearly killed his dog. Eh...No. I was crawling out, saw the dog and stopped.

I helpfully pointed out that the animal should have been on a lead. He cursed a bit more. Think he was suffering from what my husband would have termed 'wee man syndrome'.

He does now use a lead, but of course it's one of these great long leads that gives him insufficient control. I frequently find dog mess after he's passed.

I believe another widow further down the street has had similar trouble with him. He has another dog now. I dare say that it's only a matter of time until he loses this dog.

I've also had bother with dogs getting into my garden - I had owners breaking through the stick fence at the bottom when they followed their mutts in to retrieve them. (I did have a decent hawthorn hedge there, but the council was a bit overenthusiastic when they cut back their side of the hedge and it never recovered properly.)

During lockdown, I plugged the gaps with the leftover wood my husband had in the garage plus a roll of chicken wire. I've since planted prickly replacements for the hawthorn on the inside of the fence where the council can't get at them. Thus far, it's keeping the owners out.

People have evolved for thousands of years to ……..pick up a dogs shit…hmm progress

saraclara · 03/11/2023 20:27

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/11/2023 19:53

They don't come into contact with the food.

The dog at the next table to us in our hotel's restaurant did a steaming great poo right next to me. I'd just started my breakfast, and was unable to finish it.

Guide dogs are trained to occupy such spaces. Pet dogs are not.

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 20:27

@WinterDeWinter cafes are establishments where people go to buy and consume food, which is exactly what children do when they are with parents. Why are the dogs there?

Draculasteachest · 03/11/2023 20:27

One half of the pavement just past our house had several clumps of dog mess the other day. Then then came storm Ciaran and thankfully did some good by washing it away. Then this morning, the other side had several new clumps of dog mess 😑

WinterDeWinter · 03/11/2023 20:29

I have probably overthought this now but you know 😂

CombatLingerie · 03/11/2023 20:29

Letting off fireworks is a completely selfish pursuit that upsets a lot of humans not just pets as I mentioned in my previous post. Don’t try and tell me otherwise!!
