Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

Basically there are a lot of shit dog owners but obviously a lot don’t realise they are shit & a lot know they are shit but don’t want to acknowledge it so these threads always go the same way.

MrsDoylesLastTeabag · 03/11/2023 19:51

Yeah, well, I'm just fucking sick of humans... What ya gonna do...

BibbleandSqwauk · 03/11/2023 19:51

I don't think the pedantic quibbling about of it's the dog or the owner is helpful really. For those on the OPs side of things it's irrelevant. Who cares if it's the dog being a dog or the owner who hadn't bothered to train it? The end result is the same. Guide and support dogs are an entirely different scenario and are generally immaculate in behaviour so not an issue....a million miles from the lockdown pooches so prevalent now.

PoisonJuicy · 03/11/2023 19:51

I am NOT talking about guide dogs, they are the exception.

Grapefruitsquash · 03/11/2023 19:51

coldcallerbaiter · 03/11/2023 19:49

@Grapefruitsquash if it was just dogs for the blind out there, nobody would mind, they are a means to an end and I do not see one from one year to the next. It’s a disingenuous comment.

Why disingenuous? You may not see them but in London it's not unusual. I see one particular man with his dog frequently on the tube.

Prescottdanni123 · 03/11/2023 19:52

@PoisonJuicy

If it is a dog friendly cafe, there is no harm. I eat in the same house as my dog so eating in the same cafe doesn't bother me at all. If you don't like dogs in cafes, go to dog free one. And don't give me the "But there is no dog friendly cafes near me". The town I live in is probably the most dog friendly place in Britain and we have our share of dog free cafes. If I went into a cafe that didn't take dogs and started complaining about it, I would be called entitled and rightly so. But it is also entitled to go into a dog friendly cafe and complain about dogs being there.

soleroonic · 03/11/2023 19:53

It's the performance parenting of dogs that amazes me.

Yesterday someone had their dog in the toiletries section of home bargains and the dog was lying in the middle of the aisle rolling around while the owner (who was with his family and didn't even need to be there) was performance parenting with it hoping everyone else would look upon his specimen in awe.

In reality he looked like a total knob and everyone was trying to get past them while eye rolling. It was sniffing round the shelves which turned my stomach.

The amount of off lead dogs in my seaside town is ridiculous. They run at you, owners nowhere to be seen. Endless barking from houses nearby, dogs left in gardens. Shit everywhere.

Dogs are revolting, dog owners are largely crap. It's an antisocial thing that needs addressing but won't happen until dog wonder realise they are the problem.

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/11/2023 19:53

Goodornot · 03/11/2023 19:12

It's the shops and cafes and restaurants that bother me. I don't want animals in places were food is served it's disgusting.

They don't come into contact with the food.

And if people were informed and educated, they'd know that service did are not just for "the blind" (which is also a misconception since seeing dogs service a wide range of sight issues).

Fourfurrymonsters · 03/11/2023 19:54

I’m an owner of 4 big dogs, have had dogs all my life and tbh I can’t disagree with you - though it’s not dogs, it’s their feckless owners. Lockdown was a disaster where folk who have no business owning a housefly, bought puppies for entertainment because they were bored, resulting in an entire nation of dog-owning twats who put no thought into training or proper socialisation. If you’re going to own a dog, you need to put the work in to ensure he or she is a polite, well-mannered member of society, and you need to look after him/her properly…having said all that, I have a problem dog, a very badly traumatised Romanian boy who can’t be around other people or strange dogs, so I don’t let him be as far as humanly possible for his sake and theirs, because I’m responsible for his and everyone else’s safety and comfort. But still we get the offlead, out-of-nowhere dogs with no owner in sight, and no bloody manners, trying to “be friendly” 😬
Some people are just asshats.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 03/11/2023 19:54

Bs0u416d · 03/11/2023 19:48

Objectively, I suppose it is hard to disagree. It's easy for me to say a blanket ban is silly because my own dog is well behaved and we are sensible in how he is managed in public but I myself worry about passing off lead dogs or big dogs on leads that looks poorly controlled. Equally, I suspect many people find my dog scary because he is big and they are not to know what he is like, how he is raised or whether I will pay any mind should he choose to bother them. Food for thought indeed.

The subject came up because a well known local dog was attacked in the park by another dog. If you just heard the story you’d assume the well known dog was just a typical aggressive dog, but it’s actually a beautifully trained dog. The lady who owns it used to train guide dogs. The other dog was a more “family” breed yet it’s bloody wild and it’s been a matter of time before it injured someone or another dog.

Lockdown really has brought about some seriously shit dog owners.

Missingmyusername · 03/11/2023 19:54

@kitsuneghost Come again? Firstly my dog is not allowed on the sofa.
And I’m sorry to disappoint you but I wash my dogs feet and butt hole and wipe him over when he’s been outside. He’s a very clean, well groomed boy. Probably cleaner than you🤣
We don’t wear shoes in the house either….

Of course, there may be some Labrador hair, but I’m ok with that. 😘

grottyb · 03/11/2023 19:55

Yeah, well, I'm just fucking sick of humans... What ya gonna do...

What a fantastic contribution but thanks for confirming my point!

PictureOfFlorianTray · 03/11/2023 19:55

I agree with you up to a point.
I walk along a lovely riverside walk every day both with or without my dog ( on a short lead.)

My issue is with e-bike owners and e-scooter owners who wizz so fast from behind with no warning and spook me . My hearing is waning but I'm just short of needing aids but what about people who are deaf?

We need to learn to accommodate each other.

LuckySantangelo35 · 03/11/2023 19:55

SoupDragon · 03/11/2023 19:07

Yes, it tells us that MNers like complaining about dogs.

@SoupDragon

cos dogs are a pain in the arse. Shitting everywhere

ladeluge · 03/11/2023 19:55

Pet dogs should be banned I tell ya, right now, there is not enough room for them anymore in urban settings. We are being overrun!

Service dogs, sniffer dogs, forensic dogs, rescue dogs, sheepdogs and so on are very welcome. They actually do what they are bred to do, are working dogs and contribute hugely to society as a whole. The rest of them are just useless appendages of their owners really. They contribute nothing except trouble and shit to those who are not their owners.

kitsuneghost · 03/11/2023 19:55

Bs0u416d · 03/11/2023 19:42

Do you really think they should all be muzzled in public? I happen to disagree with you for what it's worth (not in an antagonistic way). I'm just interested to get your point of view on this, as a dog owner.

Remember there is a lot of wildlife in places where people commonly walk dogs. Dogs should be muzzled and tight leashed to protect them not just to stop them chasing bikes.

coldcallerbaiter · 03/11/2023 19:56

@Neriah the poster I quoted referred to her blind sister.

uptheantrimcoast · 03/11/2023 19:56

Completely agree with you OP.

I used to quite like dogs, although never wanted to own one myself, but now I am so fed up with dogs everywhere. Smelly dogs in cafes and restaurants, leaving my house and seeing dogs pooing in front of my house, dogs pooing in the middle of town, dog poo on my baby's buggy, dog poo on my toddler's shoes, dogs jumping up at my pram or toddler, having to feign enthusiasm when colleagues talk to me about their dogs because if I say I don't like them I'll be ostracised!

To the poster who mentioned service dogs - they're different. I can't imagine ever having a problem with a highly trained service dog being anywhere.

ChequeredPastel · 03/11/2023 19:57

I have more of an issue with cyclists who don’t have bells on their bikes here. I’m happy to move my toddler and child out of their path but I don’t know they’re coming from behind me until they near collide with us.

Not saying that’s you, but if you don’t have a bell…. Please get one

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 03/11/2023 19:57

One of our local pubs has always been dog friendly, but they’ve recently banned dogs.

You used to get one or two dogs in and they were always kept in one area near the fire and they’d be well behaved.

The owners say there’s now too many who let their dogs up on the sofas and wander around getting in the way. And the barking at other dogs is just ridiculously constant.

jimmyhill · 03/11/2023 19:57

Euthanasia for the lot of them.

The owners, I mean. It's not the dogs' fault

mfbx5sf3 · 03/11/2023 19:57

Me too. The amount of times I have been waking through a park with my two small children and someone’s rank manky mutt comes jumping up- to a comment of “oh they are friendly!”. well I am not and if your creature touches my child I will be swiftly throwing it in the river. Leads and muzzles need to be compulsory in a public space.

highly unlikely. Dogs stink and they can’t wipe their arse and they lick their genitals and sometimes eat their own shit. Humans do not not do that

kitsuneghost · 03/11/2023 19:57

PhoenixIsFlying · 03/11/2023 19:32

I'm sure the creator of this earth meant for it to be shared with our fellow creatures. In fact their behaviour is far better than humans. We are the ones who destroy everything.

That is an advert to ban domestic animals then surely.
Cats and dogs are very bad for wilfdife and environment.
They only exist for selfishness of humans.
