Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

Unfortunately there are too many humans (including me) all packed into small spaces, towns and cities, so when many of them also have dogs it is not a marriage made in heaven. There just isn't enough room for us all, and IMV humans take precedence.

I'm indifferent to dogs, I neither love nor hate them, but I would never have one. Having to walk them for an hour twice a day to a set schedule would kill my relaxed lifestyle for starters, and then to have to think about and organise kennels or dog sitters if I wanted to go away would take the spontaneity right out of my life. So dogs are not for me.

I do agree though that given the small amount of space humans and dogs share these days that leads everywhere except in a dog run/park are essential and should be mandatory.

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:40

@PlipPlopChoo preach 😂

This thread is so cathartic. Saying you don’t like dogs in this country is like saying you’re a psychopathic serial killer.

And I’m not saying dogs should be in leads because I don’t like them I’m saying they should be on a lead because they’re often antisocial - whether that be nature or nurture.

I bet he “was only playing”. Who is paying for dry cleaning after he put his muddy paws all over my coat?

It's the shops and cafes and restaurants that bother me. I don't want animals in places were food is served it's disgusting.

I'll pass that onto my blind sister. I'm sure she'll be happy that she and her guide dog are disgusting. Maybe they should just stay at home. What about supermarket shopping which she does with the help of a shop assistant - is her dog disgusting in there too?

Delphinium20 · 03/11/2023 19:41

YANBU. Some owners are either delusional about their dog's behavior or don't care. We had a lovely dog who has since passed, but never brought him to a beach, shop or restaurant, always kept him on a lead, and had a fenced garden he couldn't escape. My husband had him trained so well that I tend to harshly judge owners who can't do the same. For example, he never jumped on anyone, was gentle/docile around children and obeyed all commands. He was a large boxer mix.

But I don't miss picking up shit and we have since decided not to have another as it's a lot of work to train them. I'm too old for that again!

@SweetBirdsong and yet you commented!

The fact there are so many dog threads surely tells us something?

Absolutely this.
But dog owners just can't see anything wrong with owning a dog just cause they want to and everyone else just has to deal.

"They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field."

And muzzled when in any public space,

Do you really think they should all be muzzled in public? I happen to disagree with you for what it's worth (not in an antagonistic way). I'm just interested to get your point of view on this, as a dog owner.

I am a dog owner and I do agree with you. Control your dog, but also control your child.

I have a child and wouldn’t inflict my child on you when you’re out having a meal… I don’t care how funny or confident your five year old is. I don’t want to chat to thrm.
Likewise I don’t want your child’s ice cream covered jizz fingers on my well mannered
Lab😂

But your happy with a dogs shit covered fur on your sofa and in your kitchen?

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:44

@Tiddybiddy247 thats horrible. This happened to me in 2019, I’d just gone past my due date, and was walking to get things moving and a big husky, ran up to me and nearly knocked me over.

So many instances of antisocial dog behaviour, and yet people persist in trying to brush it off.

I don’t mind an occasional friendly greeting from a dog in a park, I don’t particularly like status symbol dogs though.

Someone on a local page suggested that dogs should have to be muzzled in public unless the owner had been on a course/test and had shown they were a decent dog owner that knew what they were doing. I found it hard to disagree as it is the owners that is the problem

TheGander · 03/11/2023 19:46

Dog ownership has gone up by 50% since covid. I’m glad they are banning XL bullies. It’s had an impact already , the local ones seem to have faded away, I used to dread cycling past them. I’ve been charged by a staffie and it wasn’t cool.

ladeluge · 03/11/2023 19:47

@Grapefruitsquash I don't think the poster was referring to service dogs. I agree with the poster anyway, general non working dogs in such places are not a good thing. If dog owners want to eat or drink with their dog at their feet they should open their own doggie cafe, where non dog owners are not welcome, and we wouldn't go near them either, at least I wouldn't.

I will not go to a place that is dog friendly, because they are usually NOT friendly to non dog owners at all. But it is becoming so prevalent ( showing the number of people with dogs these days), that there is often little choice, so I avoid completely.

PoisonJuicy · 03/11/2023 19:48

YANBU. It’s even more disgusting that many retail outlets and cafes now allow them in. Why can’t dog owners leave them at home? Do you see any other pets being taken out like this? Plus the hygiene aspect of dogs being around food makes me walk out. I don’t want to see your slobbering dog whilst I’m out eating thanks. Leave them at home and keep them on a lead when out. Any dog has the potential to attack, let’s not be naive.

Cerealkiller4U · 03/11/2023 19:48

My daughter was terrified when she was younger. We had a black lab once come bounding up to me and she just cowered…

I asked the owner to recall the dog because she was so scared. He said ‘oh. You make her like that did you?’ I said ‘no, she doesn’t appreciate owners that are shit!’

Objectively, I suppose it is hard to disagree. It's easy for me to say a blanket ban is silly because my own dog is well behaved and we are sensible in how he is managed in public but I myself worry about passing off lead dogs or big dogs on leads that looks poorly controlled. Equally, I suspect many people find my dog scary because he is big and they are not to know what he is like, how he is raised or whether I will pay any mind should he choose to bother them. Food for thought indeed.

TeenLifeMum · 03/11/2023 19:48

I’m a dog owner and walk my cocker spaniel off lead on paths but not by roads. However, he has reliable recall and if there’s a bike coming I quickly assess where he is and look for any risk he’ll run into the pathway of the cyclist and mitigate that. Dog owners who haven’t trained their dog, pay more attention to their phone than what’s happening and think everyone loves their dog are what cause these issues. I’m sorry this happened to you.

coldcallerbaiter · 03/11/2023 19:49

@Grapefruitsquash if it was just dogs for the blind out there, nobody would mind, they are a means to an end and I do not see one from one year to the next. It’s a disingenuous comment.

Dibbydoos · 03/11/2023 19:49

YAOOO.

Blame the owners not the dogs fgs.

I'm sick of irresponsible dog owners and idiots who blame the dog when it's not trained!

Prescottdanni123 · 03/11/2023 19:49

Only in dog parks or fields? My dog has good recall so if I take her for a walk in the countryside, I'm letting her off the lead for a run.

Cerealkiller4U · 03/11/2023 19:49

your post is a little strange

No, she said dogs in places where food is prepared are disgusting. She didn't say pet dogs or not including service dogs. She didn't say it was their behaviour she didn't like. She just said they're disgusting.

So much dog hate on here but my sister's dog is her lifeline. He's changed her life.

Homefry · 03/11/2023 19:50

As someone who has always been wary / scared of dogs / aware first hand of how dogs can turn on a dime, I stand beside you op. The bigger ones / one's with big Jaws should definitely be made to wear muzzles in public imho. Dogs put me off walking in green spaces a lot of the time ans that's a shame. Why should dogs trump humans? This xl bully era has made things feel even worse. I get for some people they can be company but owners should keep their dogs away from people who are showing them no interest or attention.

Neriah · 03/11/2023 19:50

And I'm fucking fed up of cyclists on the pavement, flying around the local park at high speed (limit 5mph clearly displayed), going through red lights, etc etc. But fortunately I don't think every cyclist is a complete pillock. Just a lot of them.
