Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

That what I should have said, I know you can get them for poorly incontinent dogs. But what pp suggested was for dogs to wear while on a walk.

Yeah, that is just batshit. Dogs do little pees to scent where they have been (reading and replying to pee-mails). Putting a nappy on them on a walk is stopping them doing their normal doggy behaviour.

But dog haters seem to think that pavements and parks should be sterile, so no pee or poos.

I honestly do see a lot of this behaviour from people's children. Its more common to be disturbed whilst out and about by unruly kids than unruly dogs

Woah there, let’s just go through that again. You see A LOT of children
a) pissing on your communal hallway carpet;
b) defecating on the pavement and in public play parks;
c) howling and yapping keeping you awake at night;
d) leaping at you;
e) stealing people’s picnics?

More details please, for each of them. Remember you said ‘I honestly do see a lot of this behaviour from people’s children’.

I’ve already asked for details such as children’s ages and location but I was ignored - I’m looking forward to the answer though!

I'm sorry to hear that. I guess I live in a slightly more 'classy' area where the scum only allow their dogs to do all those things and not actually do it themselves.

Although of course the people'v got their unsavoury habits in my building too - dropping half drunk McD milkshake on the carpeted floor is one of my least favourite along with the still smouldering cigarettes discarded here and there.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 28/11/2023 00:05

You don’t see children walking around with their ringpieces visible like dogs do.

a) not everyone has a communal hallway, and not one shared with dogs. That is a very specific scenario. And if a dog owner is letting their dog pee in the hallway, then that is an owner issue and not a dog issue.
b) wildlife does too. Pavements are not sterile and should not be expected to be so.
c) if someone is letting their dog howl and yap at night, then is sounds like their dog is distressed. Again, an owner issue, and not a dog one. The huge majority of dogs sleep at night.
d) again, an owner issue.
e) I had a sandwich stolen by a duck once. Lets ban all ducks. AGAIN, an owner issue.

All of the above are owners not controlling their dogs, or not setting boundaries.

Lets put a kid spin on it.... by the way, this is my own experiences.
a) mums changing nappies in cafes, on the same tables people dine on. I have also seen mum's change pull up nappies in full view of everyone else. Sorry, but I don't want to see a toddler penis when I am chatting with a friend over cake.
b) I have seen nappies left in cafes, and in parks. You would think if someone made the effort to have the full changing bag get up out with them, they would take used nappies back with them. Nope.
c) my neighbour has a kid that had massive meltdowns all the time. I sometimes wonder if I need to call the police. He is getting bigger and sounding more violent.
d) I have had kids climb on me and try and get into my drink in cafes. I have also been at a mental health support group, and a mum tried to let her kid butt in because there were colouring supplies on the table and that must mean it is kid friendly.
e) for my sins, I was in a Hungry Horse place, and this one kid hid under my table and kept trying to pinch my food. No sign of the parent.

YinrunIsMySpiritAnimal · 28/11/2023 00:16

I can believe people are STILL comparing dogs to kids.

Theyre not the same

Ot doesn’t matter what kids do - kids are humans and not putting them above dogs smacks of having a rather disturbing Miss Trunchbull style personality disorder.

Dogs are pets. Not the same as having a kid. Not the same as a human, even a small one.

YinrunIsMySpiritAnimal · 28/11/2023 00:16

Also never heard of a child mauling a human to death.

But some kids grow up to be very rotten and dangerous individuals.

When people compare dogs to kids, they are saying that both can be fucking annoying.

So compare dogs to adults then. No one ever does - I wonder why. Because They genuinely think it is a fair comparison. Which makes me question their intelligence TBH. It’s like comparing apples and oranges. Or bananas and cats. One is not remotely on the same level or scale as the other.

No, kids can be annoying. I would would love to live on your planet where kids are quiet and well behaved,
I like dogs, and don't like badly behaved dogs. Kids are ok, bit badly behaved ones are not.
Dogs and kids can be utter and total shits.

Remember there is a lot of wildlife in places where people commonly walk dogs. Dogs should be muzzled and tight leashed to protect them not just to stop them chasing bikes.

wild refuges always have lead restrictions on dogs or they are not allowed.

Cats can be annoying, snakes can be annoying, those slugs you slip on in the winter when it’s dark can be annoying.

But kids are humans, we have all been children and they are our species - a complex and flawed species, but one we understand wholly and completely. and so anyone who thinks you shouldn’t have more tolerance and understanding for the ‘fucking annoying’ humans than you should for some random pet wants their head checking.

I used to be a kid.. and the kids around me treated me like shit. To the point I wanted to kill myself.
My dog... she does not judge me. She is awesome and I love her lots. I have been genuinely hurt, so much more but people are knobs and think they mean so much more. They don't.
People hurt you to the bone on purpose. Dogs hurt when they leave you.

WiddlinDiddlin · 28/11/2023 05:25

G'wan I'll play...

Dogs make noise?

In the last week I have heard adult humans shouting obscenities in the street, round the clock (not constantly but this can happen any time, I live on a route between a football club and a pub). Add in unecessary revving of car and bike engines to show off, loud music (ditto), late night parties, inappropriate/illegal use of fireworks... the list goes on.

Dogs leave dangerous waste?

Adults leave human shit, vomit, spit. They also smash glass bottles, leave tin cans, nappies, plastic waste, cigarette ends and much more, in their wake. I've seen plenty of parents take their kids for a wee or poo behind a bush or even in the street, or change nappies on bus seats, bus shelter benches, in cafes...

You can see dogs bumholes?

Ill give you that, dogs anatomy is such that some breeds have a visible anus. I don't think it's pretty either. But then I have never had a dog show it to me intending to shock or offend. I have had humans bare their arses or waggle penises at me to achieve that end.

Dogs spread zoonotic disease and parasites?

So do humans, and children are one of the biggest disease and parasite vectors going.

Dogs wee on carpets.

So do most children at some point in their lives, as will many drunken adults.

Dogs bite, attack people, kill.

Not in anywhere near such large numbers as humans do.

Dogs damage wildlife and public spaces, street furniture etc.

Again, no where near as much as humans do - my local fb group this week has had three threads about different groups of children chucking rubbish/spraying graffiti on local businesses, I've lost track of the number of 'watch out someones nicking things out of sheds' threads, and I witnessed two gangs of young people trashing play equipment in the park.

In a head to head battle of which species is the nastiest, humans win hands down, every time.

But we have to tolerate humans because we are humans. Fair enough, but can we stop pretending we and our precious offspring are nicer, we really aren't!

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 28/11/2023 06:15

I absolutely love dogs and I am a fully trained dog groomer - more of a side hustle now but I worked at this a lot during lockdown.
Dogs aren't the issue and never have been. It's that every Tom, Dick or Harry now go and get dogs without knowing a smudge about dog behaviour, training or needs.
I get a lot of people telling me they want a dog and they will ask me which breed they should go for and what they're looking for in a dog, and I tell a lot of those people they actually want a cat. Dogs are a massive responsibility and you have to put in the work. Small dogs tend to be behaved worse - I've been very rarely bitten by a big dog but I have slight nerve damage in my right hand from a Lhasa Apso!

Halllooo · 28/11/2023 07:40

‘maybe a dog nappy or something.’

that’s hilarious. A woman once told me a should be carrying disinfectant spray to use after I pick up poo. I told here she should be okay as long as she didn’t kick the pavement.
that went down well.
true though…

Thanks for all that, but I really would like a reply from SunsetCurtain as it was a question based on a very particular claim they made. Stories of sandwiches and ducks, and children with probable mental health issues that should elicit sympathy, don’t answer it I’m afraid. I’m not going to engage with what you’ve said because I don’t want to get sidetracked; I want a reply from Sunset.

@WiddlinDiddlin 👏👏👏 well said

Noangelbuthavingfun · 28/11/2023 08:08

To the person who said why do we always compare dogs to kids and never adults... because its been proven that an adult dog has the intelligence of a 2.5 Year old human and can learn similar things etc and have similar type of basic emotions like happiness, anger, stress... That's the reason why we compare them to kids. Both can can be fabulous and well behaved if "parented" right. Both can be absolutely shits if parented wrong. I feel sorry for some kids and dogs that have parents that don't bother to train them or treat them poorly. Neither a child nor a dog have a choice in this matter at this age as their behaviour is largely (except for ND cases) a manifestation of their parenting... are kids and dogs equal? Of course not ... most dog owners don't think this anyway. But a well behaved dog is an equally big part of a family and most responsible dog owners in the UK try to integrate them in daily life. If you live in an area where dogs are defecating in hallways etc then the owners need to take accountability...don't hate the poor dog.... my dog comes to dog friendly cafes and some pubs with us that allows it and he's exceptionally well behaved as he's done it from day 1. If it bothers you because you've had terrible experiences of dogs please do vote with your feet as the vast majority of places do not allow them

Lifestooshort71 · 28/11/2023 08:08

I'm a cat person but ok about dogs. However, I don't want them sitting on seats in cafes or licking my cheese toastie as the walk past but apart from that...
Children versus dogs? Hmmm, the former will grow up and hopefully contribute to your state pension which perhsps makes them a more attractive long-term bet.

YinrunIsMySpiritAnimal · 28/11/2023 08:09

Do you have a source to say that a dog is like a toddler?

Thats not why people compare them. It’s because they have nothing else in their ammo when trying to defend poor behaviour form dog owners

Noangelbuthavingfun · 28/11/2023 08:11

@YinrunIsMySpiritAnimal Google is your friend... look up dog intelligence in human terms. Thats certainly why I can see people compare them and why I make the comparison. Both can be fabulous and both can be rotten...why ? Common denominator here ...
